Scamacca marks return to Atalanta action with big goal
La Dea are distracted right now by the news Lookman handed in a formal transfer request, trying to push through his move to Inter.
Meanwhile, his teammates were in action last night with a 2-1 friendly victory over RB Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena.
Loic Openda had opened the scoring early on, but Scamacca came off the bench at half-time and scored a well-taken individual goal on Daniel Maldini's assist.
Youth player Lorenzo Bernasconi sealed the late winner on the volley.
Scamacca joy at full recovery
BERLIN, GERMANY – JUNE 29: Gianluca Scamacca of Italy, looks dejected after the team's elimination from the tournament following the UEFA EURO 2024 round of 16 match between Switzerland and Italy at Olympiastadion on June 29, 2024 in Berlin, Germany. (Photo by)
It was a big moment for Scamacca, who this time a year ago suffered a devastating anterior cruciate ligament injury in his knee that kept him out for over six months.
Just as he made his comeback for five minutes in February against Torino, the former West Ham United striker then sustained another serious injury, this time to his thigh.
That was the only game of his entire 2024-25 campaign, so this is going to be a fresh start for the 26-year-old.
'It has been a truly complicated year for me, staying away from the pitch, my teammates, and the daily life of a football player,' he told TuttoAtalanta.com.
'It was not easy, but it is in the past now. The worst is behind me, and I am ready to look forward. I can say that I learned a lot from this experience, both as a player and a person.'

Dibling bigger talent than Kane
Everton remain in negotiations for Southampton winger Tyler Dibling, who is reportedly not taking part in contact training at St Mary's in order to protect himself for any potential move, although the clubs are yet to agree on a fee. Everton's current record signing is the £45m they paid for Gylfi Sigurdsson in 2017 and they could exceed this figure to secure Dibling's services. Former Saints boss Russell Martin believes he would be worth every penny. Martin coached James Maddison and Harry Kane in their early careers and he told The Rest is Football podcast thatrates Dibling even more highly. "When I was there I had to play it down a lot and not make things more difficult for him," Martin said, "but he is the most talented player I've ever worked with. "Seeing him on the training pitch, seeing him live, Tyler has every capability to play for England and at the top level for a very long time. Martin highlighted Dibling's versatility, noting he can play at eight, 10, as a false nine or on the wing for any new club. "He's powerful, he's really quick and [uses] both feet. Physically, the stuff I've seen him do at 18 in the Premier League, with people just bouncing him off him and being put on the floor when he dribbles, he has something I've not seen in a British player for some time."

Hamburg sign Warmed Omari on loan from Rennes
Hamburg have officially confirmed the signing of centre-back Warmed Omari on loan from Stade Rennes. Virtually all German footballing media outlets confirm that a purchase option is part of the deal. The 25-year-old may remain with the newly promoted Bundesliga outfit for much longer. Kicker reports that Omari's arrival constitutes the end of Hamburg's pursuit of Austrian defender Stefan Posch. The longtime Hoffenheim professional simply proved too expensive for the Hanseatic city state side. Hamburg dropped their interest in German centre-back Armel Bella Kotchap for the same reason. Omari will nevertheless not be the last addition to Hamburg's defensive corps this summer. Die Rothosen maintain interest in Tottenham's Luka Vuskovic. The signing of Georgian right back Giorgi Gocholeishvili is also expected to be completed shortly. '[Omari is] a modern center back with an interesting profile,' HSV sporting director Claus Costa noted in a club statement. 'He is fast, technically skilled, and has good passing ability. He defends intelligently and courageously. With his core competencies, he will make our defense even more versatile.' 'In Warmed, we have signed a player who has already gained a lot of experience in Ligue 1 and in European competitions,' HSV board-member-for-sport Stefan Kuntz added. 'At the same time, he still has potential for development. We want to work with him to bring this out.' 'I had great talks during which I felt appreciation with the sporting directors and the coach,' the player himself said. 'Now I'm looking forward to getting to know my new teammates and helping HSV achieve its sporting goals.' GGFN |
