Brandt Snedeker (USA) and Geoff Ogilvy (International) named 2026 Presidents Cup captains
The Presidents Cup made it official on Tuesday: Brandt Snedeker and Geoff Ogilvy have been named Captains for the U.S. and International Teams, respectively, for the 2026 event. The 16th Presidents Cup will be contested at Medinah Country Club's Course No. 3, Sept. 22-27, 2026.
'It's a tremendous honor to be named U.S. Team Captain for the 2026 Presidents Cup by my peers, and I'm looking forward to leading our guys into Medinah for what will certainly be an amazing week of golf,' said Snedeker in a release. 'Representing my country in team competition has been a highlight of my PGA Tour career, and I will lean on those experiences to ensure we are prepared and ready to compete against what I know will be a unified and determined International Team.'
Snedeker, 44, represented the U.S. Team in the 2013 Presidents Cup at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, compiling a 2-3-0 record. The Tennessee native also played for the United States in the 2012 and 2016 Ryder Cups, where he amassed a 4-2-0 record. Snedeker, who was a captain's assistant in the 2024 Presidents Cup, is slated to serve as a vice captain for the 2025 Ryder Cup.
'Brandt Snedeker is among the game's most respected players and one who has garnered the utmost admiration from his peers throughout his 21-year career, which was most recently recognized as he received the 2024 Payne Stewart Award for his outstanding character and sportsmanship,' said PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan. 'Brandt is a proven leader on and off the golf course, from his years representing the United States in team competition to building a family foundation benefitting children in his home state of Tennessee. I know he will be a tremendous captain and asset for the U.S. Team in 2026.'
Snedeker owns nine career wins on the PGA Tour, including the 2012 Tour Championship, where he also won the FedEx Cup. The former Vanderbilt University standout is one of 14 players in PGA Tour history to card a sub-60 round, doing so at the 2018 Wyndham Championship, where a first-round 59 helped him collect his latest victory. Snedeker has battled injuries in recent years and enters the week ranked No. 154 in the FedEx Cup with one top-10 finish this season.
Ogilvy, 47, played on three consecutive International Teams (2007, 2009, 2011), where he amassed a 7-6-1 record. He also served as a captain's assistant in the last four iterations of the event. The Australian owns eight career PGA Tour victories, including the 2006 U.S. Open, in addition to winning two of Australia's biggest titles – the 2008 Australian PGA and 2010 Australian Open.
'The Presidents Cup has been a significant part of my career. I am honored to now take on the role of Captain of the International Team for the 2026 Presidents Cup at Medinah Country Club's Course No. 3, a place that means a great deal to me,' said Ogilvy. 'Since Ernie Els debuted the shield in 2019, the International Team's spirit has intensified and grown as we have rallied around this symbol which embodies our shared ambition and unifies both players and fans. I intend to carry that momentum forward, just as the captains before me have, to build strong support for our international players in the lead up and throughout the event.'
Ogilvy's golf course design firm, OCM, oversaw the renovation of Course No. 3 – a two-year project that delivered a much larger scale to match the topography of the property. The course, now punctuated by larger greens, scale bunkering and wider fairways, along with a new routing, re-opened to play in the summer of 2024.
'Geoff Ogilvy is the perfect captain to lead the International Team into Chicago in 2026, drawing on both his great history with the Presidents Cup and a vast knowledge of Medinah,' said Monahan. 'Geoff will capitalize on the upward trend of the International Team, where we have seen a passionate level of support from players and fans over the years. With his pedigree as a major champion and experience in the team room, Geoff was primed to take on this role for the 16thedition of the event.'

Trump Doral back on a PGA Tour schedule crowded with big tournaments
Trump National Doral is back on the PGA Tour schedule next year as a signature event that is sure to test how often the top golfers want to play during an extraordinary spring of five big tournaments in a six-week stretch. Doral long was considered the start of the Florida swing, a can't-miss event as the PGA Tour began attracting international stars. Next year it will be a $20 million signature event the first weekend in May, part of a stretch that starts with the Masters, ends with the PGA Championship and has three signatured events in the four weeks in between. That also means players not eligible for those big events would have only two tournaments to play — one of them with a minimal purse — in that six-week stretch. 'We're excited to showcase the game's greatest players competing at golf's most iconic venues,' said Brian Rolapp, the tour's new CEO. There's virtually no change from the 2025 schedule except for a few tournaments changing dates, the Mexico Open moving to the fall and moving the opposite-field event in the Dominican Republic from March (against Bay Hill) to July (against the British Open). The PGA Tour lost the Barracuda Championship in Truckee, California, which had been opposite the British Open. It was the only tournament that used the modified Stableford scoring system. Still to be determined is a title sponsor for what now is called the Miami Championship. Doral first became part of the PGA Tour schedule in 1962. It became a World Golf Championship in 2007, and then the PGA Tour struggled to find a title sponsor when President Donald Trump bought the resort. It moved away from Trump Doral to Mexico City after 2016, prompting Trump — the presumed Republican nominee at the time — to say, 'I hope they have kidnapping insurance.' The famed 'Blue Monster' at Trump Doral then became a site for Saudi-funded LIV Golf each of the last four years. Miami is not part of the LIV schedule for 2026, although his Trump National outside Washington will be used. The spring stretch isn't the only busy part of the schedule. The PGA Tour season begins a week later on Jan. 8 at Kapalua, giving players a little more time after the holidays to get ready. That means the WM Phoenix Open, which prefers to end on Super Bowl Sunday, will be Feb. 5-8. The AT&T Pebble Beach moves back a week followed by the Genesis Invitational, both $20 million signature events. Previously, the Mexico Open was after the West Coast Swing, a week before the start of the Florida Swing. Now the Cognizant Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, will follow two signature events at Pebble Beach and Riviera, and precede two more big events in the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship. Scottie Scheffler does not play the Truist Championship in early May because he wants to support his hometown events in the Dallas area. The question for the PGA Tour is how many other players will not want to play that much amid the first two majors of the year. In another move, the Rocket Classic in Detroit goes from the last week in June — two weeks after the U.S. Open — to the first weekend in August, two weeks after the British Open. The fall portion of the schedule has not been released.
