Singh said that the entire Shri Krishna Janmasthan area has been cleared of encroachments and beautification work carried out to provide a better experience for devotees arriving from across the globe.
Additional District Magistrate Dr Amresh Kumar said several teams have been deployed in the city to raise awareness about the environmental damage caused by plastic use.
Mathura MP and Bollywood actress Hema Malini urged citizens to ensure that the effort succeeds. 'Plastic is choking the city, and on Lord Krishna's birthday, we must pledge to make our city plastic-free," she said.
Security arrangements have been stepped up for the festival, Senior Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar said. The city has been divided into sectors and zones, with CCTV cameras, drones, and more than 3,000 police, PAC and RAF personnel deployed. A QR code-based parking system has also been introduced for the convenience of devotees.

Kite string slits bike riders throat near Tughlakabad Metro
New Delhi, Aug 16 (PTI) A 30-year-old bike rider battles for his life after his throat was slit by a kite string Saturday while he was traversing a flyover near Tughlakabad Metro Station in southeast Delhi's Badarpur area, police said. The incident was reported around 4.40 pm at Badarpur Police Station, they said. The string appears to be an Indian string, but FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) reports will confirm if it is that or Chinese Manjha, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari said. The victim was identified as Rajneesh, a native of Hardoi district in Uttar Pradesh, who is currently living in Akhibelpur village. He was lying in a pool of blood. 'There was significant bleeding from the neck region of the victim. Four members of Gujarat music band killed in mini bus-truck collision in MP
Agency: PTI Shivpuri (MP), Aug 16 (PTI) Four members of a Gujarat-based music band were killed and 11 other persons were injured on Saturday in a collision between a mini bus and a small truck in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh, police said. Members of the music band had performed at a programme in Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi and were returning to Gujarat when the accident occurred around 6 am on National Highway 46, around 30 km from the Shivpuri district headquarters, Station House Officer (SHO) Arvind Chari told PTI. He said the bus driver lost control of the wheel, leading to the bus veering into the wrong lane and colliding. The deceased included Hardik Dave (37), a singer, Raja Thakur (28), Ankit Thakur (17), and Rajendra Solanki (47), all members of the band, the SHO said. He said the injured persons have been admitted to hospitals. A preliminary investigation suggests that the driver of the mini bus with 17 people onboard might have dozed off due to fatigue as the troupe was travelling non-stop from Varanasi since 5 pm (Friday), Chari said. The bodies of the four victims have been handed over to their families, who are transporting them to Gujarat. Chari said the condition of the two critically injured persons is stable now. 'We are waiting to record the statement of the injured driver after his condition improves and is able to speak," the SHO said. Delhi top cop suspends 8 officers over absence during Janmashtami duty
Eight police officers, including an inspector-rank officer from Northwest Delhi's Shahbad Dairy police station, were suspended after they were found absent from duty near an ISKCON temple in the area during Delhi Police Commissioner SBK Singh's visit on Saturday. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer-North) Hareshwar Swami confirmed the development. According to officers, the Delhi Police Commissioner conducted a ground-level inspection in various parts of the Capital on Saturday. The police had stepped up security arrangements outside several temples and prominent markets across the city amid celebrations for Janmashtami. In the morning, when the Police Commissioner arrived at the ISKCON temple in the Shahbad Dairy area, it was found that the personnel assigned to Gate Number 2 were not present, said officers. The Police Commissioner, officers said, immediately instructed the District Police Head to take the matter seriously and ordered the suspension of the responsible officers. 'As of now, eight personnel have been found missing, after which the suspension orders were issued. A departmental inquiry has also been initiated to determine if more personnel were absent,' a senior police officer said. Singh has instructed all the Special CPs that show-cause notices should be issued to concerned ACP (sub-division) and district DCPs for not keeping proper supervision of their staff. He also directed them to make an adverse entry in this regard in the annual performance appraisal report of concerned ACP (sub-division). Singh, a 1988-batch IPS officer, took charge as the Delhi police chief earlier this month. In a recent meeting held at Delhi Police headquarters, he reiterated that there was 'zero tolerance' for corruption in the force, said officers.
