Maharashtra labour & industry dept goes AI: Rs4.95cr approved to build ‘super portal' by September

Time of India3 hours ago
Nagpur: The state govt has cleared a Rs4.95 crore proposal to build a comprehensive digital platform for its Industry, Energy, Labour and Mining (IELM) Department, integrating everything from public services and internal portals to real-time dashboards and multilingual AI chatbots.
A govt resolution issued recently grants administrative and financial approval for the ambitious e-governance project, which is to be implemented through the National Informatics Centre Services Inc (NICSI). The project has a strict deadline and must go live by September 30, 2025.
The unified platform will consolidate multiple portals and services under one roof, including the Labour Commissionerate, Mathadi and Security Guard Boards, and internal systems such as LMS, DISH, BMMS, IWBMS, Cess, RPL, and others.
New Delhi-based UNEECOPS Technologies Ltd has been empanelled for design, development, and maintenance of the proposed portal.
Among the highlights is a full-fledged AI-powered chatbot, built using natural language processing (NLP), that will operate on the website as well as WhatsApp. The bot will be voice-enabled and offer services in both Marathi and English. It will be capable of answering citizen queries, assisting with applications, providing scheme information, helping with document submission, and even tracking service status.

The same chatbot will also offer personalised assistance based on Aadhar number or mobile-based identification.
A WhatsApp Business API chatbot will also be deployed for grievance redressal, scheme promotion, and document-based services. Users will be able to lodge complaints, track tickets, and even receive multimedia communication like scheme brochures and alerts via WhatsApp.
The department will also develop an interactive GIS-based platform, where key labour facilities such as worker facilitation centres will be geo-tagged and searchable by district or location.
A real-time integrated dashboard will be built to monitor scheme KPIs, data across sectors, and the status of departmental services. The dashboard will support role-based access and draw data from various internal systems via APIs.
The platform will be cloud-hosted, secured with extended-validation SSL/TLS certificates, and will undergo mandatory security audits as per GoI norms. All pages will be mobile responsive and accessible to visually impaired users.
In addition, a new mobile app will be developed with all the website's features, real-time content sync, interactive UI, and feedback mechanisms. The app will be freely downloadable on Android and iOS platforms at no cost to users.
The GR notes that all expenses will be booked under the 2025–26 budget head for the e-governance project. A dedicated manpower resource will be stationed on-site at Mantralaya for the next three years to oversee maintenance and content operations.

Retired TCS employee duped of Rs 3 crore by share trading fraudsters

Mumbai: A 58-year-old retired TCS executive lodged a complaint after being duped of almost Rs 3 crore from cyber fraudsters in an online scam. Impersonating officials of a reputed share trading platform, the fraudsters lured him twice and duped him of Rs 2.6 crore. The victim, a resident of Navroz Bagh in Lalbaug, detailed how he was lured through deceptive advertisements on Facebook and tricked over a span of two months. According to the complaint, the victim, who dabbled in stock trading for the past five years, came across an advertisement for "Kuvera Finance" while browsing Facebook on June 10. On clicking the link, he was added to a WhatsApp group named "K21 - Kuvera Appha Club - Learn & Grow Your Wealth." The group was allegedly moderated by Rutuja Lad, who claimed to be a manager at Kuvera Finance, and Neelabh Sanyal, who posed as an investment advisor. Under their guidance, he began transferring funds into various bank accounts, which included names like Sweet and Salt, Yash Traders, Axiopay Infotech Pvt. Ltd, and Sahil Enterprises, among others. Over a period of weeks, he was duped into transferring Rs 56.2 lakh under the pretext of stock investments that were displayed as virtual profits on fake trading apps. In a parallel operation, the victim encountered another fraudulent scheme through a Facebook advertisement for UTI AMC. This led him to a WhatsApp group named "UTI Capital Storm," where individuals identified as Sanya Kapoor and Imtaiazur Rahman introduced themselves as managers of UTI Mutual Fund. They used similar tactics, guiding the victim to invest by sending funds to accounts under names like Prudent Services Ltd, A.K. Traders, Harish Kumar, Sri Kalai Enterprise, Brightview Technologies, Hasan Creation, and Prince Corporation. Between June 16 and July 29, the victim transferred an additional Rs 2 crore to these accounts. The fraudsters repeatedly showed inflated profits on virtual dashboards but refused to allow withdrawals, citing fabricated "processing fees." When the victim attempted to withdraw his investments on July 29, the accused demanded a 5% payment on the invested sum. Sensing foul play, the victim attempted to contact the accused, but they became unresponsive. Realising he was cheated, the victim immediately filed complaints with the 1930 Cyber Helpline, an FIR was lodged against Rutuja Lad, Neelabh Sanyal, Sanya Kapoor, and Imtaiazur Rahman—and lists multiple bank account holders used as conduits for the scam. These accounts spanned across several banks. The complainant has submitted screenshots of WhatsApp chats, payment details, and other evidence to assist in the investigation. Authorities suspect that the scam is part of a larger pan-India racket involving mule accounts and international operatives. A senior officer from the cyber cell said, "We are tracing the digital footprint of the accused and are in touch with the respective banks to freeze the accounts. Preliminary investigations indicate the involvement of a well-organised cyber syndicate."

Opening Of First Of ₹332 Crore Twin Ajni Cable-Stayed Bridges Postponed by Five Months

1 2 Nagpur: After encountering multiple hurdles, the work on the much-awaited Rs332 crore six-lane, twin cable-stayed bridges at Ajni, being constructed to replace the 125-year-old British-era railway overbridge (RoB), has started in full flow. However, due to changes required in design to get multiple approvals due to other infrastructure projects at the spot, the opening of the first bridge has been delayed. The Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MRIDC) or MahaRail has now announced that one bridge will be opened to the public by the end of February next year — four months later than the originally scheduled opening in October. MahaRail MD Rajesh Kumar Jaiswal said it will be a remarkable structure, with eye-catching illumination. "The project was designed by a Taiwan firm, and was later approved by IIT Mumbai. The cable-stayed bridge needs multiple approvals, because of which the construction has been pushed forward till end of February 2026." The existing Ajni RoB is located between Ajni and Khapri Railway Stations over the Nagpur-Wardha section in the Nagpur division of Central Railway. However, since the bridge has outlived its life and regular traffic congestion, the six-lane, twin cable-stayed bridges were proposed, on the lines of Ram Jhula near the main railway station. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like video upload from file test Undo The work for the project started in April 2023, and MahaRail initially wanted to open one of the bridges by October 2025. However, it has been postponed now. "The new cable-stayed bridge will significantly reduce the traffic congestion in this area and will also add to the beauty of Nagpur city. MRIDC has taken a challenge to complete the first phase of RoB by February 2026, which will give major relief to the commuters," said MahaRail. MahaRail also claimed that one of the important things in the project is that traffic diversion is not required during the construction of the bridge since RoB is being constructed in two phases. MahaRail also claimed that it was very challenging and difficult to construct the foundation in between operational railway lines. "However, MRIDC has made remarkable progress. The work of the connecting beam has been completed, and a pylon at 52 metres height is being constructed above the connecting beam. The fabrication work of steel girders is almost 90% complete at the casting yard. Once completed, the girder will be transported to Ajni from the casting yard and installed," said the agency. Ajni RoB will provide direct connectivity to South and Central Nagpur. The new cable-stayed bridge will provide smooth traffic movement. "This cable-stayed overbridge will add architectural landmarks to the city. The proposed LED theme lighting during the night will enhance the beauty and will give an aesthetic appeal to the neighbourhood. There is provision of footpath on both sides of the cable-stayed bridge along with selfie points," said a MahaRail official. Box: BRIDGE IN TWO PHASES 1st Phase: Three-lane cable-stayed bridge, parallel to existing RoB, and its work is currently going on. Till construction is completed, traffic is allowed over the existing (old) bridge 2nd Phase: Old bridge will be demolished, and two-way traffic rerouted to new bridge. Second three-lane RoB will be built in place of the current Ajni bridge Final Traffic: Once second RoB is ready, each bridge will accommodate one-way traffic
