India to host fourth edition of dialogue with Central Asian states on June 6
The India-Central Asia Dialogue on Friday will be preceded by the India-Central Asia Business Council on June 5, which will focus on trade and investment issues. The last edition of the dialogue with the Central Asian states was held in New Delhi in December 2021.
India has stepped up its engagement with the Central Asian states of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in recent years, especially to counter China's influence in the region. In 2020, India offered a $1-billion line of credit for infrastructure development projects in the Central Asian countries and it has also implemented a range of small community development projects in these countries.
Kazakhstan's deputy prime minister and foreign minister Murat Nurtleu, Kyrgyzstan's foreign minister Zheenbek Kulubaev, Tajikistan's foreign minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin, Turkmenistan's foreign minister Rashid Meredov and
Uzbekistan's foreign minister Saidov Bakhtiyor Odilovich are set to participate in the dialogue on Friday with external affairs minister S Jaishankar.
Jaishankar is expected to hold separate bilateral meetings with his five Central Asian foreign ministers, who will also meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the people cited above said on condition of anonymity.
India's ties with the Central Asian region got a major boost when Modi hosted the first India-Central Asia Summit with the presidents of the five countries in January 2022. Several Central Asian states have also expressed interest in working with India to utilise Iran's Chabahar port, where an Indian state-run firm operates a terminal, to bolster trade in the land-locked region.
Countering terrorism and radicalisation has also emerged as a key pillar of cooperation between India and the Central Asian states. In the past, India has coordinated with these five countries on the situation in Afghanistan. India has also organised customised training programmes for professionals from the Central Asian states in counter-terrorism and cyber security.
At the same time, the India-Central Asia Business Council, which functions as a B2B body under the India-Central Asia Dialogue, has focused on promoting business links, facilitating understanding of business regulations, and boosting mutual investments.

ITC Hotels, IHCL gain 2% in subdued market; brokerages see more upside
ITC Hotels, Indian Hotels share price today Shares of ITC Hotels (₹239.60) and Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) (₹790.75) rallied 2 per cent each on the BSE in Wednesday's intra-day trade in an otherwise subdued market on the back of healthy business outlook. The correction in these stocks up to 12 per cent from their respective recent highs provided a good entry opportunity, believe analysts. In comparison, the BSE Sensex was down 0.15 per cent at 81,518 at 09:30 AM. The stock price of ITC Hotels had hit a record high of ₹261.35 on July 21, 2025, while, IHCL touched all-time high of ₹894.15 on December 30, 2024. Indian hospitality and tourism industry India's hospitality and tourism industry continues on a strong growth path, supported by rising travel demand, increasing domestic consumption, and sustained investment in infrastructure and services. The tourism sector is also gaining traction, with revenues projected to exceed $59 billion by CY 2028. Key drivers include growth in domestic travel, improvement in foreign tourist arrivals, and demand from corporate and event based tourism. The Union Budget 2025-26 has allocated ₹2,541.06 crore for tourism development, focusing on infrastructure, skill-building, and facilitation. A major initiative includes developing 50 tourist destinations in collaboration with states, aimed at improving visitor experience and connectivity. Meanwhile, the hotel sector outlook for Q2FY26 remains positive, supported by a lineup of events and seasonal demand drivers across India. A cluster of long weekends in August (Raksha Bandhan, Independence Day, Janmashtami, and Ganesh Chaturthi) is likely to support leisure travel across leisure destinations. The brokerage firm expects double-digit growth in RevPAR (Revenue per Available Room) for Q2, driven by ARR (Average Room Rate). Brokerages see more upside in ITC Hotels, Indian Hotels Analysts at ICICI Securities recommend a 'Buy' rating on ITC Hotels with a target price of ₹282 per share. Demand for luxury hotels will sustain in India with strong demand from domestic leisure travel and higher demand from higher foreign tourist arrivals in H2FY26. Hence, the brokerage firm expects double digit RevPar growth momentum to sustain with occupancy ratio expected to improve by 100-200bps while ARR to grow by 8-10 per cent. Its first international property – ITC Ratnadipa, Sri Lanka (352 rooms) which was launched in FY25, will incrementally add to the room revenues. Room revenues are expected to grow at compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12 per cent over FY25-28E. The company derives ~40 per cent of its revenues from Food & Beverages (F&B) business, highest amongst the listed peers with F&B revenue contribution of 13-35 per cent. F&B business revenues are expected to grow at a CAGR of 19 per cent over FY25-28E, analysts said. Despite a high base in July, driven by five wedding nights last year, the Q2FY26 outlook of IHCL remains strong. Management anticipates robust performance in August and September. The company expects double-digit revenue growth in FY26 for its hotels segment, driven by meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) activity and continued inflow of high-profile international delegates, Motilal Oswal Financial Services said in the Q1 result update. The brokerage firm expects the strong momentum to continue in the medium term, led by a strong room addition pipeline in owned/management hotels (3,770/16,430 rooms), continued favorable demand-supply dynamics, and increasing MICE activities in India. It reiterated its 'Buy' rating on IHCL with SoTP-based target price of ₹900.

Gold rate outlook: Will yellow metal decline further? Analyst predicts this
Gold: Under pressure on subdued safe haven demand Performance On Tuesday, August 19, spot gold traded between $3,313 and $3,346. The yellow metal fell for the fourth consecutive day on subdued safe haven demand as investors become hopeful that the US Administration's efforts to stop the Ukraine war may be fruitful. Downside pressure on domestic gold prices intensified due to continued weakness in the USDINR pair coming on positive implications of the Indian government tweaking GST rules and expectations of thawing of geopolitical tensions as the world leaders try to bring an end to the Ukraine war that has lasted for around three and a half years. In the week ending August 15, the yellow metal closed with a weekly loss of 1.76 per cent at $3,335. Tariff and trade The US Treasury Secretary Bessent sees tariff revenue getting revised up substantially from $300 billion this year. He said that they will use tariff revenue to pay down US debt and bring down deficit-to-GDP. Bessent said that the status quo with China is working well. S&P Global said that Trump's tariff war is speeding Beijing's trade and investment drive into developing nations, potentially paving the way for a China-led trade order. US Treasury Secretary on rate cuts On Tuesday, US Treasury Sec Bessent supported the idea of a rate cut as he said that a rate cut by the Federal Reserve could facilitate a pickup in home building and keep prices down for one to two years. Data roundup US housing starts picked up as the US housing starts (July) came in at 1.428 million, a five-month high, Vs forecast of 1.29 million and the prior reading of 1.321 million, though building permits at 1.354 million lagged the estimate of 1.39 million (prior 1.393 million) and fell to the lowest since June 2020. Central Bank watch The markets are placing 85 per cent odds for a Fed rate cut in September. Fed's Michelle Bowman, who voted for a rate cut at the July meeting, said that she has not changed her views. She cited debanking as a problem in the financial system, into which the Fed will look should more cases rise. As per Reuters, 50 of 62 economists polled by Reuters said that they expect the Bank of England to further cut the policy rate by 25 basis points to 3.75 per cent this year. Economists expect inflation to peak around current levels. Geopolitics watch The US President Trump asked Ukrainian President Zelensky and Russian President Putin on Monday to meet face to face with him at a peace conference. However, in an interview with Fox TV on Tuesday, he said that we will let them meet first. As per Bloomberg, a summit between Putin and Zelenskiy may take place within two weeks, but the Kremlin has yet to confirm. Upcoming data Jackson Hope Symposium will be held from August 21 to August 23. Investors look forward to the Fed Chair Powell's speech scheduled for August 22. The US data/reports to be released this week include July 30 FOMC minutes (August 20), S&P Global US PMIs (August 21), leading Index (August 21) and existing home sales (August 21). Eurozone's PMIs will be released on August 21, while Germany's 2Q final GDP will be out on August 22. Japan will release its PMIs and national CPI on August 21 and August 22 respectively. UK CPI data will be reported today. Outlook Gold is under pressure from geopolitical factors as traders expect that the US-driven peace efforts may lead to a breakthrough in the Ukraine war talks. A tentative rebound in the US Dollar Index following elevated CPI and PPI readings is also pressurising the metal. On the other hand, healthy ETF inflows, central banks' demand and fiscal and economic concerns continue to support the metal. ETF holdings have risen nearly 12 per cent YTD and are at a two-year high. The metal may test the support around $3,290 (MCX Gold October contract ₹97,900), though downside ahead of the Jackson Hole Symposium is likely to be limited. Interim support is at $3,307 (₹98,400), resistance is at $3,350 (₹99,700)/$3,375 (₹1,00,500).
