NBC keeps U.S. Open thru 2032 in media rights extension
In all, the 11 USGA championships (professional and amateur) are staying in the familiar confines of NBC, USA Network and Golf Channel.
The USGA on Tuesday extended NBC's rights deal to broadcast the U.S. Open through 2032. That deal also includes the U.S. Women's Open and U.S. Senior Open. All coverage will be streamed on Peacock as well.
NBC has been the USGA's primary television partner since 1995. In 2015, the USGA struck a 12-year, $1.1 billion deal to team up with Fox Sports, but five years in, Fox paid a lump sum to exit the agreement and the rest of the current deal was transferred to NBC.
Financial terms were not revealed. Puck reported that the annual value will be close to the $93 million the current pact is worth.
New aspects of the extension include the U.S. Open receiving an extra hour of prime-time broadcast on Thursday and Friday.
Meanwhile, the USGA's main amateur championships -- the U.S. Amateur, U.S. Women's Amateur, U.S. Junior Amateur, U.S. Girls' Junior, U.S. Senior Women's Open, U.S. Adaptive Open, Walker Cup and Curtis Cup -- will be carried by Golf Channel. And USA Network will carry roughly 35 hours of live coverage of the U.S. Open and U.S. Women's Open.
Versant is the name of the new "spinco" that will be the parent company of most of NBCUniversal's former cable networks, including MSNBC, CNBC and E! as well as Golf Channel and USA.
In a news release, Versant trumpeted the deal as its first sports media rights acquisition.
"The USGA championships represent some of the most prestigious events in all of golf," Versant president of sports Matt Hong said in a statement. "USA Network's reach and Golf Channel's reputation as the television home of the sport are ideal platforms to bring the USGA championships to golf fans across the country."
"We're incredibly proud of the partnership we've built over the years with NBCU and Versant, and we're equally excited to continue building on that legacy throughout our shared passion and dedication -- alongside people we're proud to call our friends," USGA CEO Mike Whan added in a statement.

India wants US ties based on mutual respect, says its arms purchases are on course
NEW DELHI, Aug 14 (Reuters) - India said on Thursday that it hoped relations with the United States would move forward based on mutual respect and shared interests, seeking to temper worries that ties were headed downhill in the aftermath of high tariffs imposed by Washington. A U.S. defence policy team will be in New Delhi this month for talks with Indian officials and its arms purchases from the U.S. are on course despite the strain in ties, the Indian foreign ministry said. A new friendship built between the two countries has hit a rough patch after President Donald Trump raised tariffs on Indian goods to 50% last week from an earlier 25% saying it was a penalty for India's continued imports of Russian oil. New Delhi has accused the U.S. of double standards in singling it out for Russian oil imports and called the tariffs unfair, unjustified and unreasonable. At the same time, it has also indicated that the warming of ties that began at the turn of the century covers a wide range of areas and should not be seen only through the prism of trade, although it hopes that trade talks will continue and result in a deal. "This partnership has weathered several transitions and we hope that the relationship will continue to move forward based on mutual respect and shared interests," Indian foreign ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told a regular media briefing. Purchases of military equipment from Washington were on course, Jaiswal said, adding that a U.S. defence policy team was expected in Delhi this month. Reuters reported last week that India has put on hold its plans to procure new U.S. weapons and aircraft and that a planned trip to Washington by the Indian defence minister had been cancelled. The Indian government subsequently said reports of a pause in the talks were wrong.

Chelsea hand key figures bumper new deals amid Club World Cup and European success - and their role in spending £2BILLION reshaping Blues' squad since 2022 takeover
Chelsea have parlayed their faith in a number of their leadership team by handing key members of the club hierarchy contract extensions. The Blues are experiencing an upswing in momentum after a positive end to the last Premier League season saw them finish fourth - and return to Champions League football after three terms - and secure the UEFA Conference League trophy. The west London side then jetted to the United States to play the Club World Cup in a continuation of their season, securing the revamped trophy and an enormous £84.4million prize pot with a thumping 3-0 win against Paris Saint-Germain in New Jersey last month. Enzo Maresca has been hard at work reshaping the team to his preferred image in the transfer market, recruiting stars such as Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Liam Delap, and Jorrel Hato to join his revamped side. But the club have managed to secure critical outgoings too, with Armando Broja, Joao Felix, Noni Madueke, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall among those to have moved on. Amid this purple patch, a number of Stamford Bridge's major deal-makers have been rewarded for the work they have carried out over the last few seasons. Sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, and recruitment heads Joe Shields and Sam Jewell have all signed new agreements which are set to keep them in west London until at least 2031. The six-year extensions are thought to reflect their commitment to the club's mission and the new deals, as with their previous contracts, are believed to be filled with performance incentives as the Blues continue to chase down trophies following their period in the wilderness. Winstanley and Stewart's January 2023 start-date came relatively soon after the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital takeover in May of 2022, with Shields the first to join up with the new regime later than year. Jewell joined the club's leadership group in 2024, and under the aegis of the four men, the club's new strategy of sustainability in recruitment and development is now in full effect. As per Telegraph Sport, since the summer of 2022, Chelsea have spent a staggering £2billion, but around £800-900m has been earned in player sales in the opposite direction. Standout signings spearheaded by the Blues' leadership team have included Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo, and Enzo Fernandez, as well as women's team manager Sonia Bompastor, and Enzo Maresca. Chelsea have carved out a reputation for handing players bumper multi-year deals, and another cornerstone of the strategy that the leadership team have created is centred around the 'three pillars' of quality, mentality, and playing experience. Bringing important figures such as Enzo Maresca and Cole Palmer to Stamford Bridge has been a key part of their new strategy The Blues have been a markedly young side for a number of seasons, with Tosin Adarabioyo the proverbial veteran in the squad at the age of just 27. However, a number of younger stars like Palmer have now accrued vital Premier League experience, helping fuel Chelsea's belief in signing emerging talents. Among those to arrive at Stamford Bridge this summer is teenager Estevao Willian, who was signed for the club last summer, but played his final at Brazilian side Palmeiras before joining up with Chelsea after his 18th birthday. Maresca's side will be keen to back up a strong - if shortened - pre-season in their opening match of the season on Sunday, against Community Shield winners Crystal Palace.

Ukraine PM orders sweeping audit of mining licences
KYIV, Aug 14 (Reuters) - Ukraine's Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko ordered a review of all licences to mine strategic minerals in the country on Thursday, as part of a broader effort to help the war-ravaged economy and secure new investment under a minerals deal with the United States. In April, Ukraine and the United States agreed a minerals deal that was heavily promoted by U.S. President Donald Trump. It envisaged that half of the revenues the Ukrainian government earns from mineral extraction would go to a joint U.S.-Ukraine investment fund. Svyrydenko said on Thursday the government will also rerun its tenders for gas extraction at two sites in western Ukraine. "We plan to check who is actually working and who holds licenses without production. These facilities should either produce results or return to the auctions for conscious investors," Svyrydenko said on the Telegram app. "Our natural resources should work for Ukraine's economy." Ukraine has deposits of 22 of 34 minerals considered critical by the European Union for industries such as defence, high-tech appliances and green energy, as well as ferro alloy, precious and non-ferrous metals used in construction, and some rare earth elements. The deal with the United States, which gives the latter preferential access to Ukrainian minerals in exchange for investment, was seen as a way to help rebuild the economy, which has been devastated by Russia's invasion, and help Kyiv's defence efforts. Government officials have previously said that Ukraine had about 3,000 mining licenses and about 10% of them may be dormant.
