City leaders, community discuss ongoing gun violence in Springfield
A community pleaded with its leaders to do something about the violence in the city Tuesday night.

Everyone at the commission meeting agreed that more needs to be done when it comes to violence in the city.
Six people have been killed in Springfield in 2025, according to the city's law director, Jill Allen.
David Rose's son, Randy Graham, was shot and killed after a party in the 900 block of Elder Street on May 14.
He attended the meeting and said he doesn't think the city is doing enough to stop the gun violence.
'You guys don't understand the hurt until it hits home,' Rose said.
However, Commissioner Krystal Brown said it upsets her hearing people say commissioners are not taking gun violence seriously.
'What y'all don't understand is that they're my students. Every time I get a text message, I ask Bryan, 'What are their names?' And every time I open up the offenders list for the juvenile detention center, there are 17 kids, 9 or 10 of them are mine,' Brown said. 'So if you think that I wake up every single day and serve these, serve these kids, that that just goes away when I come to the part-time job at night, that is insanity to me.'

Murder suspect found during drug investigation at Hall County home
A murder suspect on the run for over a year was caught during a Hall County drug investigation, deputies said. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] Gainesville police say Kyland Williams, 18, was wanted for malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault in the April 2024 shooting death of 16-year-old Jaishawn Overstreet. Then a good Samaritan jumped in to help On Wednesday, around 6:30 a.m. Hall County investigators executed a search warrant at a home on Woodland Way. During the search, investigators learned Williams was in the home. Williams, 18, of Monroe, climbed down the back deck of the house but was immediately taken into custody by HCSO SWAT. After SWAT cleared the home, investigators discovered the following drugs inside the home: Cocaine – 2 grams THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) vape cartridges – 280 THC wax – 12 ounces Marijuana – 3.5 pounds Officials said the drugs had a combined street value of about $13,000. Investigators also seized an AK pistol, AR pistol, handgun and $1,000 in cash. The pair lived at the home and were there during the search. Vargas is charged with sale of cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of THC oil with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, all felonies. Carrera is charged with possession of THC oil(felony) and drugs not in the original container (misdemeanor).

Child in the back of stolen car found safe at local gas station, 1 in custody

Around 3:30 p.m., Dayton police were called to the Sunoco at 1627 East Third after a woman called and said she was assaulted and her car had been taken with her child inside.
