Create Account Homeowners looking to breathe new life into their spaces without the high cost or hassle of maintaining natural stone have a chic new option just north of Toronto. Italian surface innovator Laminam, headquartered near Modena in Italy's renowned ceramic region, has officially opened the doors to its first Canadian showroom in Vaughan, bringing with it a suite of sophisticated, sustainable, and surprisingly thin porcelain surfaces. Known globally for pioneering ultra-thin large-format slabs, Laminam is making a sleek entrance into the Canadian design scene with the debut of twO, the world's first 2mm porcelain slab, along with two standout additions to its I Naturali collection: Calacatta Viola and Taj Mahal. 'The Vaughan showroom is both a response to that demand and a resource offering homeowners, designers, and builders the chance to see, touch, and experience what makes Laminam different.' And different it is. While traditional stone surfaces can be heavy, porous, and costly to maintain, Laminam's slabs are engineered for real life. They're non-porous, stain- and heat-resistant, and require no sealing or special care making them ideal for hardworking kitchens, spa-inspired bathrooms, or even outdoor installations. The new twO series is a technical and aesthetic leap forward. At just 2mm thick, these slabs are the thinnest of their kind in the world, yet durable thanks to Laminam's proprietary moldless pressing technology. They're also flexible and lightweight, opening the door to creative applications like curved walls, cabinetry, lighting features and even faucet cladding. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. 'It really changes the game for custom and vertical surfaces,' Eeles explains. 'Where you might have used wallpaper or paint, now you can use twO and get a surface that's far more resilient and long-lasting.' The innovation goes beyond aesthetics though. twO is made with up to 60 per cent recycled materials and its feather-light weight means lower CO₂ emissions during transport. Bonus: it can be applied directly over existing tile, slashing renovation timelines and reducing construction waste. If you follow design trends, Laminam has your number. The two newest additions to its I Naturali collection speak directly to today's most sought-after looks that balance bold, personal expression with serene, sensory-driven style. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. For the maximalist, Calacatta Viola makes a dramatic statement with sweeping violet veining, perfect for feature walls, powder rooms, or luxe kitchens. Taj Mahal, meanwhile, captures the quiet beauty of soft beige stone with delicate golden veining, a definite nod to the 'soft minimalism' and 'quiet luxury' movements currently dominating interiors. 'Designers aren't choosing between bold and minimal anymore,' says Eeles. 'You can mix our boldest surfaces with our most understated ones and still achieve harmony in a project.' He indicates, 'Calacatta Viola is for clients who want drama. Taj Mahal brings warmth and elegance. Both are rooted in the natural world but elevated through design.' Whichever look speaks to you, Canadian designers and renovators are embracing the large-format, ultra-thin porcelain slabs that Europeans have long championed since Laminam's founding in 2001. From fireplace cladding and feature walls to countertops and bathroom vanities, Laminam is gaining traction in the Canadian market. Now, with a 2,500-square-foot showroom and a massive 28,000-square-foot on-site warehouse at 51 Graniteridge Road in Vaughan in place and looking ahead, Laminam plans to expand its product line with even lighter, more tactile finishes and deepen its presence across North America.
