KUALA LUMPUR: Efforts are underway to ensure Kuala Lumpur's cleanliness, safety, and comfort as the city hosts the 58th Asean Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) from July 8 to 11 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, announced that Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), alongside various related agencies, is committed to maintaining the city's image for the Asean delegations and visitors.
"We are fully aware that Kuala Lumpur is hosting numerous regional programmes and meetings as Malaysia chairs Asean this year," Dr Zaliha noted.
"DBKL has already implemented numerous initiatives to uphold the city's cleanliness. However, it is important to stress that this is not solely the responsibility of local authorities—other stakeholders must also contribute."
Dr Zaliha made these remarks while presenting keys to 10 Dapur Digital (cloud kitchen) entrepreneurs at Menara DBKL today (July 7).
The 58th AMM will see the participation of foreign ministers from all 10 Asean member states, including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Joining them will be Asean Secretary-General Dr Kao Kim Hourn of Cambodia and the Foreign Minister of Timor-Leste, as the latter country pursues its Asean membership.
Kuala Lumpur is not just focusing on cleanliness but also enhancing its infrastructure to accommodate the influx of international guests.
The local government has been working diligently to ensure seamless transport and hospitality services during the event.
Highlighting the importance of collaboration, Dr Zaliha called upon businesses, residents, and local organisations to actively participate in maintaining the city's appeal.
This collective effort is aimed at showcasing Kuala Lumpur as a vibrant and welcoming city, capable of hosting significant international events.
