Roscommon woman (89) who died after being struck by truck to be laid to rest on Monday
Ms Lavin, of Mullen, Frenchpark, and formerly of Ardikellan, Strokestown, was 'highly regarded' in the community, according to Roscommon County Councillor Liam Callaghan.
The 89-year-old died after being hit by a truck at the junction of the N5 and R361 at approximately 4.45pm on Thursday afternoon (May 1). Gardaí are appealing to any witnesses to the incident to come forward.
Removal from her home will take place on Monday morning to St Asicus' Church, Frenchpark, arriving for Mass of the Resurrection at 11 am followed by burial in Cloonshanville Cemetery.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Michael; her parents, Elizabeth and Pat Lane; sister, Ettie and brother Martin.
Ms Lavin is survived by her sons, Pat and Gerry; her daughter, Martina Langan (Ballymote); her grandson, Michael; son-in-law, Tommy; daughter-in-law, Yvonne; Pat's partner, Anne; sisters, Mai and Breege; brothers, Ed and Micheál; brother-in-law, Pat Beirne; sister-in-law, Linda Lane; nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and many friends.

Two Irishmen arrested and charged over attempted murder in UK
Both Michael and Thomas Galbraith had been wanted by police who are investigating an incident in Nuneaton, Warwickshire on May 9 Two Irishmen have been arrested and charged with attempted murder in the UK. Michael Galbraith (26) and 23-year-old Thomas Galbraith, both of Woodside Park in Ryton-on-Dunsmore, were arrested on Tuesday, June 3, and charged on the same day. They appeared before Coventry Magistrates Court yesterday and have been remanded in custody. They will next appear at Warwick Crown Court on June 20. Both Michael and Thomas Galbraith had been wanted by police who are investigating an incident in Nuneaton, Warwickshire on May 9. Two other men, James Galbraith and Anthony Galbraith, are to appear before at the same court on the same day. Michael and Thomas Galbraith News in 90 June 4th James Galbraith (28) from Limerick has already been charged with attempted murder in connection to the same incident, although Warwickshire Police has not released any details. Anthony Galbraith (20) of Woodside Park was also charged with attempted murder and remanded in custody. Police had urged anyone who had seen them to 'call 999 straight away'. "Both have links with Warwickshire, West Midlands, Kent, Bedfordshire and the south of the Republic of Ireland," a Warwickshire Police spokesperson said previously. On May 22, more than 100 officers from across the country took part in a major raid on a halting site in Woodside Park, near Ryton on Dunsmore, in a 'significant pre-planned operation'. As well as James Galbraith, police also arrested a 30-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of theft as part of an investigation into shop thefts totalling around £25,000 of stolen goods. A 39-year-old man was also taken into custody on suspicion of theft after suspected stolen goods were found in a caravan. In addition, a 44-year-old man was arrested for failing to appear in court for drug driving offences and a 52-year-old man for failing to appear in court for a case of grievous bodily harm. The seventh arrest was that of a 34-year-old man on suspicion of immigration offences. Several vehicles suspected to have been stolen, used in crime or having false documents have also been seized. Police say that four people, who they believe to be victims of criminal exploitation, have been 'safeguarded' and are being supported by specialist officers. Chief Superintendent Jon Belcher told Coventry Live: "This was a coordinated, multi-agency operation using specialist national resources. "This came about because of ongoing concerns raised by our communities, and we want to send a clear message: We will not tolerate criminality. We will work with our partners to use every power and tactic available to pursue and disrupt offenders. "We will work to protect and support law-abiding residents, both on the site and elsewhere, as we continue to pursue those who are involved in criminal behaviour.' "We again apologise for the impact this had on our patients and visitors.

Man released from custody in Kerry farmer murder case
A man in his 50s, who had been arrested in connection with the investigation into the murder of Kerry farmer, Michael Gaine, has been released without charge from the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. Search operations, supported by local, regional, and national garda units, other emergency services and the Defence Forces, are ongoing at Carrig East, Kenmare, Co. Kerry. A spokesperson for An Garda Siochána said that the family of Michael Gaine have been kept informed of this update and gardaí continue to support Michael's family through a Family Liaison Officer. The family have requested privacy at this time. Gardaí continue to appeal to the public for assistance in this investigation. Disappearance of Kerry farmer Michael Gaine was reported missing from his home near Kenmare on Friday, March 21, 2025. The suckler and sheep farmer was last seen in Kenmare town on Thursday, March 20, 2025. A major search operation was initiated at the time with the assistance of neighbours, locals and friends within the Kenmare community. Gardaí later updated the investigation from a 'missing person' case to 'homicide' providing authorities with further powers and resources. Last Friday (May 16), gardaí declared a crime scene as part of the investigation, and subsequently announced the discovery of partial human remains, while slurry was being spread on fields close to Michael Gaine's farmyard. Searches continued to recover any further human remains. DNA analysis is being carried out to formally identify the recovered remains which are thought to be that of the missing farmer. A man in his 50s was subsequently arrested for questioning but gardaí have confirmed he has now been released without charge.
