Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus lane ticketing enforcement goes into effect today
This begins after Port Authority Police have been giving verbal warnings since the lanes, which are for buses and emergency vehicles only, were installed last month.
The tickets that will be issued will be $25 for the violations, but the associated fees that will come with it will bring the cost to nearly $200.
It applies to every private vehicle, as well. This includes pickups, dropoffs, deliveries, and anything else in the red lanes.
Earlier this year, Pittsburgh Regional Transit and the city began installing red bus lanes downtown in an effort to keep buses moving and get passengers to their destinations faster.
PRT says that dedicated bus lanes are a major step towards improving service and reducing congestion, and says this will transform daily commutes and make public transit more reliable.
"Ultimately, it will be Fifth Avenue to here on Liberty Avenue to Sixth Avenue that will be the full Downtown loop," said Amy Silberman of PRT.
The routes included in the red bus lanes will be 61A, 61B, 61C, and 71B will each travel in the new lanes, heading inbound on Fifth Avenue and outbound on Sixth Avenue.

Major delays caused by fatal crash on I-15 southbound near Mesquite
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The southbound lanes of I-15 about 11 miles south of Mesquite were closed to traffic due to a deadly crash Thursday morning. The closure caused major delays for traffic. Nevada State Police said it could be 2 p.m. before the highway reopens. At around 2:30 p.m., RTC of Southern Nevada announced that all southbound lanes were open. Drivers could still expect delays as traffic began to leave Mesquite. The crash occurred shortly before 7 a.m. at mile marker 106. The Nevada State Police are diverting traffic off the freeway onto the State Route 170 (Exit 112) off-ramp, allowing drivers to make a turnaround and return to Mesquite. Trooper Shawn Haggstrom said the crash involved a commercial truck and a car, and a passenger in the vehicle died at the scene. Another passenger was life-flighted to a local hospital. Mesquite is about 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas, and the closure will impact drivers headed from that area to Las Vegas. Police said the lanes will be closed for an undetermined amount of time. Judge halts sale of Rick Ware Racing's NASCAR team amid legal battle with Legacy Motor Club
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A North Carolina judge on Thursday issued a temporary restraining order preventing Rick Ware Racing from selling its NASCAR team to T.J. Puchyr as part of an ongoing legal dispute with Jimmie Johnson-owned Legacy Motor Club. The order remains in place for 10 days and Legacy is required to post a bond of $5 million by end of business Friday. Rick Ware Racing's attorneys had requested the bond amount be set at $150 million — the agreed purchase price between RWR and Puchyr, one of the founders of Spire Motorsports who now is a consultant to various race teams and sponsors.
