Marcos inks law extending NHA's corporate term, rationalizing its powers

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. has signed into law the measure strengthening the National Housing Authority by extending its corporate term and rationalizing its powers.
Republic Act No. 12216 also repealed Presidential Decree No. 757, series of 1975. Under the new law, the NHA shall continue to exist as a corporate body in which it shall develop and implement a comprehensive, integrated, and affordable housing programs.
The law extending the corporate term of NHA for another 25 years beginning July 31, 2025 was signed on May 29, 2025.
Under the administrative supervision of the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development (DHSUD), the NHA's authorized capitalization shall be increased from P5 billion to P10 billion.
The NHA shall exercise the power of succession, to sue and be sued, and to adopt and use a seal which shall be judicially noticed; and it shall also acquire property rights and interests, and encumber or otherwise dispose the same, as it may deem appropriate.
Under the new law, the agency is also tasked to develop and maintain a database and census of families and households along waterways, in danger areas, government infrastructure project sites, and government-owned lands in Metro Manila and all regions across the country.
It must also establish a socialized and low-cost housing loan restructuring and condonation program, subject to the terms and conditions as the Board of Directors may prescribe.
It was also stated that nothing in this Act shall operate to abolish the Authority and affect the validity or legality of any right, duty, or obligation created by or in respect of the Authority prior to the effectivity of this Act.
Further, the NHA shall continue to assume all rights, obligations, and liabilities that it had during the effectivity of its original charter.
The DHSUD, meanwhile, shall cause the Board to deliberate and reach agreements on the reorganization of the Authority, pursuant to Republic Act No. 11201, especially with regard to the mandates of the Authority and its relations to other key shelter agencies (KSAs) and local government units. —AOL, GMA Integrated News

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. conducted Tuesday an inspection of the newest facilities at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in Pasay City. Marcos visited the said terminal to check the progress and upgrades delivered since the operations were turned over to the New NAIA Infrastructure Corporation (NNIC). He was welcomed by Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, and Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) general manager Eric Ines. The President was also given a briefing as regards the accomplishments of the NNIC at the terminal's VIP Lounge. He conducted a walkthrough of the terminal's facilities, including the Immigration Area, overseas Filipino workers (OFW) Immigration Annex, OFW Lounge and OFW Rest Area, Transportation Network Vehicle Services (TNVS) area, and Arrival curbside area. The NNIC, made up of San Miguel Holdings Corp., RMM Asian Logistics Inc., RLW Aviation Development Inc., and Incheon International Airport Corp., took over NAIA on September 14, 2024. It inked a P170.6-billion concession agreement with the Department of Transportation to take over NAIA in March 2024, after it offered the highest share of its future revenues from operating the gateway to the government. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. has ordered the creation of an Inter-Agency Task Force, which will support the country's preparation, organization, and hosting of the 33rd Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Jamboree (APRSJ). The Philippines, through the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, is set to host the 33rd APRSJ from December 14 to 21, 2025 at Kainomayan Scout Camp in Botolan, Zambales. The theme of the event is "Be Prepared: Scouts for Peace and Sustainable Development.'' Marcos' Administrative Order No. 33 states that the Task Force shall support the BSP in the formulation and implementation of programs, activities and projects, as well as in the organization and management of the requirements for the hosting of the 33rd APRSJ. It will also ensure coordination and collaboration with other departments, bureaus, offices, agencies and instrumentalities of the government, including GOCCs and SUCs, regarding programs, activities and projects for the preparation, organization and hosting of the 33rd APRSJ. The AO indicates that the amounts necessary for the implementation of the said order shall be charged against available appropriations of concerned agencies, subject to existing budgeting, accounting, and auditing laws, rules and regulations. The APRSJ is a major scouting event in the Asia-Pacific region, which seeks to provide opportunity for scouts aged 12 to 17 to experience fellowship of world scouting in a fun and learning environment. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
