June has been a month to remember for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru team. RCB men's team finally ended a 18-year-long wait to win the IPL 2025 title earlier this month.
On Tuesday (June 17), the RCB women's team captain – Smriti Mandhana – has become the world number one batter in ODI cricket again. The ICC announced Mandhana's return to the number one position on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old India women cricket team vice-captain rose one slot, returning to the top for the first time since November 2019. South Africa's captain Laura Wolvaardt, slipped to joint-second place (shared with England's new captain Nat Siver-Brunt), following innings of 27 and 28 in the first two ODIs against the West Indies.
This gave way to Mandhana, who now sits comfortably with 727 ratings points to the runners' ups' 719, ending Wolvaardt's more than six-month long perch at the top.
The other Indian batters in the ODI batting list after Mandhana are Jemimah Rodrigues and captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who are placed 14th and 15th respectively. India and England are set to face off in five T20Is and three ODIs later this month.
The ICC also announced the schedule for the ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025, which will begin on September 30, earlier this week. India are the hosts of the Women's ODI World Cup, which is being organized in a 'hybrid' model just like ICC men's Champions Trophy 2025 earlier this year with Colombo set to host all of Pakistan women cricket team's matches.
Smriti Mandhana Becomes the No. 1 Ranked Batter in Women's ODI Rankings, Replacing Laura Wolvaardt

I See Myself As Someone Whos Willing To Give My Blood For This Team: Kagiso Rabada Reacts On WTC Finals 9-fer Against Australia
South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada delivered a performance to remember in the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia, picking up an incredible nine-wicket haul. Despite his game-changing contribution, the pace spearhead humbly refused to consider himself a 'star.' 'I don't see myself as a star. I see myself as someone who's willing to give my blood for this team and continue working hard and improving. That's me as a cricketer, always wanting to improve and playing for the badge with a lot of pride,' Rabada said in a post-match media interaction at Lord's, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. The Proteas defeated Australia by five wickets at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground to win their first ICC trophy in 27 years. This marked a historic moment for South African cricket. Rabada's remarkable effort not only played a pivotal role in the victory but also helped him achieve a personal milestone: he is now South Africa's all-time leading wicket-taker in Tests and holds the best strike rate among all bowlers with over 200 wickets in the format. Reflecting on his effort in the second innings, Rabada added, 'I've been working extremely hard, and those second-inning spells are the ones that count more when you're a bit tired. You could be behind the game, or you could be ahead of the game. This time, we're behind the game. But I think it was just about staying calm and looking at what's in front of us. That's the way I see myself.' Markram, Bavuma Guide South Africa to Glory After Rabada's heroics with the ball, the Proteas' batting lineup rose to the occasion. Chasing a challenging target of 282, Aiden Markram played a masterful innings of 136, while captain Temba Bavuma contributed a crucial 66 to guide South Africa to a memorable five-wicket win over the Pat Cummins-led side. The match, which lasted just 10 sessions, swung back and forth. South Africa initially had the upper hand after bowling Australia out for 212 in the first innings. However, their own batting faltered as they were bowled out for just 138, handing the momentum back to Australia. But the Proteas showed remarkable resilience. In the second innings, they put Australia on the back foot at 73/7 before a spirited fightback from Alex Carey and Mitchell Starc helped the Aussies post a competitive lead. Still, on a pitch that had begun to ease out, South Africa's batters held their nerve. Markram's counterattacking ton and Bavuma's calm leadership helped the team chase down the target and lift their first ICC title since the 1998 Champions Trophy. Surprisingly both Markram and Rabada did incredibly well in the U-19 World Cup SA won in 2014. Markram led the team from front and Rabada was a breakout star.

Ahead Of Test Series Against England, Suryakumar Yadav Arrives In London. Reason Is...
India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is currently in London, for right-side sports hernia treatment and is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks, says a report. While the Indian Test team, led by Shubman Gill, is gearing up for the five-match series against England, the 34-year-old white-ball maestro is utilising the current break in India's limited-overs schedule to focus on his recovery and long-term fitness. According to News24, Suryakumar's treatment will start next week and is expected to return to cricketing field by August. Although the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not issued an official statement, reports suggest the medical procedure could require up to two months of recovery. The timing works in Yadav's favour, as India have no T20I commitments until August, when they travel to Bangladesh for a white-ball tour. That will be followed by home series against South Africa and the West Indies, before an away trip to Australia, all of which are part of India's build-up to the 2026 T20 World Cup. Suryakumar's decision to undergo the procedure now is strategic, allowing him to return fully fit for the crucial upcoming T20 cycle. And he'll be missed — the Mumbai batter has been in red-hot form, particularly in the IPL 2025 season, where he was a standout performer. Leading the charge for Mumbai Indians, Suryakumar amassed 717 runs in 16 matches at an average of 65.18 and a strike rate of 167.9. Remarkably, he scored 25 or more in all 16 innings, setting a new T20 record for most consecutive 25 scores. His consistency was pivotal in propelling MI to the playoffs, though their campaign ended in Qualifier 2 with a loss to Punjab Kings. Post-IPL, Suryakumar turned up for Triumph Knights MNE in the Mumbai T20 League, but the team managed just one win in five matches, missing out on playoff qualification. He contributed 122 runs in five innings during that stint.
