Stanley Cup stays in Florida. Panthers win back-to-back championships
The Florida Panthers have won their second straight Stanley Cup Final, defeating the Edmonton Oilers 5-1 in Game 6 of the championship series Tuesday night.
Why it matters: Florida is a hockey state.
The Panthers are the first team to win back-to-back Stanley Cups since the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2021.
Meanwhile, a Canadian team hasn't won the Cup since 1993.
Player of the game: Sam Reinhart scored four goals, including two empty-netters, to stamp an exclamation point on the win.
Better at home: The Panthers celebrated their victory in front of the home fans at Amerant Bank Arena, who cheered "We Want Cup!" and sang Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer."
At Elbo Room on Fort Lauderdale Beach, a popular Panthers bar where players celebrated last year's championship, mini Stanley Cups decorated the bar as fans gathered to watch the game.
"B**h I'm a champion!" one fan's shirt read.
By the numbers: With their second Stanley Cup, the Panthers are now tied with the Dolphins and Marlins for the second-most championships among Miami sports teams.

The Dream, who also lost to the Sun earlier this season, needed a win to earn the right to represent the Eastern Conference in the Cup championship game July 1. But Atlanta squandered a 17-point lead in the second half, which paved the way for the Fever to punch their ticket instead. Indiana is set to play the defending Cup champions Lynx in Minnesota for this year's in-season tournament title. Even with Tuesday's loss, though, Atlanta (8-4) has a lot to be proud of. The Dream hired coach Karl Smesko from Florida Gulf Coast, and added Brittney Griner and Brionna Jones to accompany Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray. The Dream have been a floundering WNBA team for quite some time. They haven't won a playoff game since 2018 and have never won a title. But they underwent a major glow up this offseason. The moves have helped the Dream (8-4) become one of the league's hottest teams to start this season. But there's a lot of things that happen between now and then.' Jonquel Jones was noticeably not quite herself in her first game back after spraining her right ankle earlier this month. She had the tall task of handling 6-foot-9 Brittney Griner in the post and looked a step slow at times. The Liberty's 102-88 loss at Indiana was the third-most watched WNBA game in ABC history, the network announced Tuesday. The game — Caitlin Clark's first in three weeks after she injured her quad — averaged 2.2 million viewers and peaked at 2.8 million. That's a 76 percent increase when compared to last year's WNBA on ABC regular-season average. Brondello, who's been around the WNBA since 1998, has always known women's basketball was a league worthy of attention. But the booming interest in recent years has been rewarding for her to see. Brandin Podziemski reps Oilers at Game 5 of Stanley Cup Finals
During the offseason, Brandin Podziemski turned his attention away from the basketball court to take in a hockey game. Yet, not just any hockey game from any seat. The Golden State Warriors guard went north of the border to be in the building for Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Edmonton Oilers and the defending champion Florida Panthers. Podziemski made the trip to Alberta, Canada's Rogers Place, to sit on the glass for Game 5 of the Stanley Cup. From his seat, Podziemski provided a bit of commentary for the game, including during a goal from Florida wing Brad Marchand. Despite support from Podziemski, the Oilers had no answer for the Panthers in Game 5. The Panthers dominated the Oilers on their way to a 5-2 win in Game 5 while securing a commanding 3-2 lead in the series. Need a break?
