The Emmy winner died on Thursday, May 29 at his Valley Village home in Los Angeles.
Clausen was diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy eight years ago.
He joined The Simpsons from the second series in 1990 and continued working on the show until its 28th season in 2017.
He was behind some of the shows iconic songs and, along with lyricist Ken Keeler, won an Emmy award in 1997 and 1998 for the songs We Put the Spring in Springfield and You're Checkin' In (A Musical Tribute to the Betty Ford Center).
Clausen's first break as a TV composer came in 1985 on the ABC show, Moonlighting, starring Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd.
He also started composing on ALF, the 80s sitcom, during this period where he provided the theme song and scored over 100 episodes.
But when offered the opportunity to work on The Simpsons he was initially reluctant to work on the show, preferring to work on films.
But Matt Groening, series creator of The Simpsons, convinced Clausen that he was perfect for the role.
He was nominated for another 21 Emmys for his work on the programme in addition to the two he won in the 1990s.
He was nominated for a total of 30 throughout his career.
While Clausen did not compose the main theme music for The Simpsons, his music often used that composition and he also rearranged and re-recorded the theme throughout his time on the show.
In August 2019, Clausen filed a lawsuit against both Disney and Fox following his dismissal from the animated series.
He alleged his dismissal owed to his age and medical conditions but Disney lawyers managed to get this aspect of the case dismissed in 2020.
Clausen continued with other elements of his claim including wrongful discharge and retaliation.
He resolved the matter after reaching a settlement with Fox in February 2022.

Jury resumes deliberations in Harvey Weinstein sex crimes retrial
The panel, which was handed the case on Thursday morning, has requested to hear a readback of some testimony from two of Weinstein's accusers, as well as to see medical records from one of those women. The jury of seven women and five men is considering two counts of criminal sex act and one count of rape against the 73-year-old Oscar-winning movie producer, with the criminal sex act charges the higher-degree felonies. Weinstein has pleaded not guilty. Sexual misconduct allegations against Weinstein propelled the #MeToo movement in 2017. He was eventually convicted of sex crimes in New York and California, but the New York conviction was overturned last year, leading to the retrial before a new jury and a different judge. Jurors heard more than five weeks of evidence, including lengthy testimony from three accusers.

Dakota held a flame for them to be together because she loved him so much and loved his kids so much." The source said they tried the age old technique of spending time away from each other but the absences didn't lead to their hearts growing fonder. "Dakota is devastated that she isn't going to be around his kids as much anymore, but wants them to know that she is always there for them," the insider continued. But the beautiful Fifty Shades star has now been spotted looking ever so glamorous in a see-through dress, while in Tribeca in New York City. Dakota sported a sleek hair look, wearing her brunette locks down, and opted for a very glamorous makeup look too. She was spotted looking in good spirits while clutching onto a brown handbag and donning sunglasses. The 35-year-old rocked heels with her outfit, and shared a look at her derriere beneath the see-through dress. The actress turned round and flashed a smile at fans and photographers, before jumping into a taxi. Before their split, Dakota and Chris were pictured holding hands in January at the Babulnath Temple, Mumbai, where Coldplay were touring. Two issues that brought Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson to a breaking point as actress was 'desperate' for it to work It followed Dakota, who is the daughter of actors Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, working on new romance movie Materialist with co-stars Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal in New York. Last summer insiders insisted the pair were still together and Dakota was seen watching Chris headline Glastonbury in Somerset. She previously told Bustle how watching him perform was a turn on, saying: "I could watch him every day. I don't know how to explain it. I feel like, I don't know... I'm watching my most favourite being do his most favourite thing. 'When people are really good at things, it is [sexy.]' Unlucky in love Chris split from actress wife Gwyneth Paltrow, 51, in March 2014 after ten years of marriage. He reportedly got engaged to Dakota last March and she called his kids with Gwyneth - daughter Apple, 19, and son Moses, 17 - her "stepchildren". The Fifty Shades of Grey star declared that she loved Chris's kids "like her life depends on it." And at one stage, Dakota talked about starting a family of her own with the musician. She said: "How do I feel about motherhood? I'm so open to that. "I've gotten to this place where I really want to experience everything life has to offer. 'And especially being a woman, I'm like: 'What a magical f***ing thing to do. What a crazy, magical, wild experience. "If that's meant to happen for me, I'm totally down for it. "We're not here for very long, so if I'm meant to be a mother, bring it on." 7 The actress looked in good spirits Credit: Getty 7 Dakota popped on heels to go with her striking outfit Credit: Getty

The young character will be bringing his troubled past with him Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A FAN favourite on Emmerdale is making a long-anticipated return. Dylan Penders, played by Fred Kettle, will be returning to ITV screens soon after months off the show. Despite caring for April and becoming good friends, her dad Marlon Dingle, was not a fan on Dylan and resorted to planting drugs on Dylan in a desperate bid to force him out of April's life. But his plan backfired dramatically when Dylan ended up overdosing and left to attend rehab. Emmerdale producers revealed earlier this month that Dylan would be returning to the village, but Amelia, who plays April on the soap gave a hint when exactly fans can expect to see him again. "April has had an incredibly tough year with what she has been through, with the pregnancy and the homelessness storyline," she told Mirror Online. "April and Dylan didn't leave things on the best terms, but I think what is important now is that he's back." Amelia added: "Who knows what will happen. It will be great to explore that relationship further, I think fans want to see that which is great." It's been a big week for Amelia who took out the gong for Best Young Performer at Thursday's British Soap Awards. She managed to win the prize ahead of her brother William Flanagan, who was nominated for playing Joseph Brown on Coronation Street. Emmerdale boss Laura Shaw confirmed Dylan's return earlier this month. Emmerdale's Marlon visits Dylan in hospital after he takes an overdose "Lovely Fred Kettle, who plays Dylan, is coming back to the show," she told media. "He's going to be bringing his past back to the village with him. And that's going to cause huge problems for April and the wider family there." Laura added: "We've got a couple of exciting new castings that are joining us for that story, but I'm not allowed to tell you who they are. Watch this space, because it's very exciting." 5 Amelia Flanagan confirmed the news at the British Soap awards Credit: Getty
