Comedian scammed out of thousands for 'once in a lifetime' Glastonbury tickets

Daily Mirror6 hours ago

A comedian who was expecting to go to Glastonbury Festival this week has revealed she was scammed out of thousands of pounds after her tickets never arrived
Comedian Joanne McNally has revealed she has been scammed out of thousands of pounds after thinking she had bought Glastonbury tickets. The Irish stand-up star revealed she initially thought she had bought tickets for the once in a lifetime event, but sadly they never arrived.
Taking to Instagram to share her fury, the 42-year-old said the man she booked them with worked for a private concierge firm. However, while she was getting excited to take in the iconic weekend event, she revealed he had gone silent and blocked her number.

In her video upload, Joanne told her followers: "Glastonbury update. The guy I bought a ticket off said it'd be there by 6. If it's not there by 6 ring me."

She went on: "No sign of the ticket. We're ringing him, we're blocked. He is gone. The money is gone. There is no ticket. We were robbed. And obviously it wasn't cheap because it was Glastonbury and it's a once in a lifetime experience."
Joanne confessed she had been packing for a weekend of fun, showing off the outfits she had read: "Here's the outfit I was going to wear for Alanis [Morissette] on Friday night," she added as she showed the outfit. "What an idiot."
She then joked: "Anyway we're not going to Glastonbury. If anyone needs an acid house hat, 60 packs of wet wipes or a barrel of poppers let me know because i'm not going to be using them.
"It's so weird because some people did get their tickets off him. A load of us didn't get our tickets from him, apparently its like 50 of us. So he took a couple of grand off 50 people and he's now in Spain or something.."

Glastonbury got underway on Wednesday, with performances set to include sets by the likes of US rapper Doechii, UK singer Raye and veteran rocker Sir Rod Stewart, who will be playing during the coveted legends slot. Also performing is Irish rap trio Kneecap and US star Gracie Abrams.
Festival-goers who managed to get their hands on tickets were even relieved to hear there has been a wet weather U-turn and that sunshine is expected over the coming days. Showers had been originally forecast for Worthy Farm in Somerset, with festival goers warned to bring their wellies.
However, they have now been advised to bring the sun cream instead. The event is the biggest in the UK, featuring over 3,000 performances across more than 100 stages during the five-day event.

The site on Worthy Farm in Pilton, Somerset, spans over 900 acres, and security has only increased over the years - which is allegedly more expensive than what is offered to the Royal Family.
As is the case each festival, there will be a number of secret gigs. And a music industry source has told The Mirror that Lewis Capaldi could be among some of the huge stars who will be secretly performing at this year's event.
The source revealed to The Mirror that Lewis will be taking to the Pyramid Stage at 4.55pm on Friday for a secret set, while pop star Lorde is taking to Woodsies at 11.30am that morning.

Made in Chelsea stars Jamie Laing have come under fire for their dance inside Buckingham Palace in which they seem to mock Meghan Markle's pregnancy dance with Prince Harry Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo have received backlash since sharing a dance video online which appears to mock Meghan Markle's pregnancy dance. Reality TV stars Jamie and his wife Sophie, who tied the knot in April 2023, have been updating fans on thir parenting journey since they announced the wonderful news Sophie was pregnant. In their latest update to fans on social media the 36-year-old star, who was in Made in Chelsea from 2011 to 2020, is seen dancing alongside Sophie in what appears to be Buckingham Palace. ‌ Jamie's dance seems to replicate those briefly seen by Prince Harry in Meghan's clip, which became public earlier this month. Jamie posted the clip on Instagram but it has had a very mixed reaction. Many on social media suggested the couple, who got married in April 2023, were trying to recreate Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's incredible "twerking" video shot moments before the Duchess of Sussex gave birth in hospital. ‌ Within minutes of Jamie uploading his footage, purportedly shot inside Buckingham Palace, the official Instagram account "theroyalfamily" replied: "We see you" with a pair of eyes and a wink emojis. The King's Trust also entered the conversation in the spirit of the occasion, saying: 'All of our attendees are very well behaved' with the same look and a laughing emoji. However, some Instagram users aimed fire at Jamie, who now hosts a show on BBC Radio One, calling the video "disrespectful" and "cringe". One user commented: "Disrespectful - go get a real job!" Others joked: "Some rules are meant to be broken." Some users jumped to the couple's defence to say: "who are they disrespecting?" Other celebs posted replies too. Kerry Villers, who is a social media influencer, said: "I feel like you can see Jamie's excitement to become a dad in his face and it's pure joy." TV presenter and former member of The Saturdays, Rochelle Humes, shared her own experience trying to sneak a photo in Buckingham Palace. The mum of three wrote: "The speed that this happened is genuinely impressive. I just about got mine in focus for a sneaky pic." Royal aides seemingly found the funny side, although it would have breached protocol. Proof that no offence was taken, a palace aide told the Daily Mail: "I'm sure it was done in a spirit of fun, and of course aligned to Jamie's wonderful support for The King's Trust Awards - even if it's not something we would greatly encourage every guest to attempt."

Buckingham Palace's cheeky response to Jamie and Sophie's 'Meghan' video

Buckingham Palace has been lauded for the "best response ever" to Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo's controversial video in which they seem to mock Meghan Markle. Sophie, who is pregnant, appears to twerk in the clip Jamie posted on Instagram to mixed reaction yesterday. Many on social media suggested the couple, who got married in April 2023, were trying to recreate Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's incredible "twerking" video shot moments before the Duchess of Sussex gave birth in hospital. Within minutes of Jamie uploading his footage, purportedly shot inside Buckingham Palace, the official Instagram account "theroyalfamily" replied: "We see you" with a pair of eyes and a wink emojis. The King's Trust also entered the conversation in the spirit of the occasion, saying: 'All of our attendees are very well behaved' with the same look and a laughing emoji. Responding to theroyalfamily's post, one Jamie fan wrote: "best response ever! This really made me laugh." Another said: "Brilliant," tagging the account to their reply. However, some Instagram users aimed fire at Jamie, who now hosts a show on BBC Radio One, calling the dig "disrespectful". The 36-year-old star, who was in Made in Chelsea from 2011 to 2020, is seen dancing alongside Sophie in what appears to be Buckingham Palace. His moves appear to replicate those briefly seen by Prince Harry in Meghan's clip, which became public earlier this month. The words "The Royal Baby has arrived" are written overlay to the clip, liked by more than 50,000 people on Instagram. Yet one viewer on there replied: "Disrespectful," to which she got seven likes. Another Instagram user shared: "Diabolical behaviour." A third critic posted: "Quite disappointing. I like you guys normally." Other celebs posted replies too. I just about got mine in focus for a sneaky pic." Sophie, who was in Made in Chelsea from 2017 to 2022, smiles playfully in the clip as she dances alongside her husband. The pair, stood on the red-carpeted gliding staircase, are flanked by portraits of members of the royal family in the video. Royal aides seemingly found the funny side, although it would have breached protocol. Proof that no offence was taken, a palace aide told the Daily Mail: "I'm sure it was done in a spirit of fun, and of course aligned to Jamie's wonderful support for The King's Trust Awards - even if it's not something we would greatly encourage every guest to attempt." Jamie had attended a reception at Buckingham Palace yesterday alongside the likes of George and Amal Clooney to highlight The King's Trust's annual awards for some of the charity's greatest success stories.

Giant boombox toilet co-designed by Sir Rod Stewart unveiled at Glastonbury

WaterAid's Boombox Bog houses a toilet that sits behind the tape deck of a giant blue boombox decorated with leopard print, a pattern often worn by Sir Rod. The veteran rockstar, 80, will perform in front of thousands of music fans on Sunday when he plays the coveted tea-time legends slot on the Pyramid Stage, which sits nearby to the toilet. The Maggie May singer said: 'I've spent my life singing to packed arenas and festival crowds, but nothing hits a high note quite like clean water and a decent loo. 'They might not be sexy, but they're life-changing. 'That's why I've teamed up with WaterAid to bring our funky Boombox Bog to Glastonbury Festival and shine a light on the importance of these everyday essentials that millions still live without. 'Together, we're creating change that's gonna last forever.' Festival-goers will be able to hear some of Sir Rod's hits from the Boombox Bog including Da Ya Think I'm Sexy? and Sailing while also listening to specially recorded water-themed messages from the singer. Jennie York, executive director of communications and fundraising, WaterAid, said: 'We're so grateful to Rod for helping share the amazing power of clean water and a decent toilet with the funkiest loo at Glastonbury Festival. 'It's a fun and engaging way to celebrate the wonderful things that can happen if everyone has these basic needs met. 'Our fantastic volunteers are onsite keeping the water flowing and the toilets gleaming, so Festival-goers can focus on the magic that makes Glastonbury unforgettable. 'But when the music stops, we don't. We're bringing people together to help build a world where everyone has the water they need to stay healthy, learn and thrive. Change really does start with water.' Non-profit organisation WaterAid has been a charity partner of Glastonbury since 1994, supporting water and sanitation services on site while also highlighting the work it does across the globe. Thousands of revellers are descending onto Worthy Farm in Pilton, Somerset, which opened its doors on Wednesday, for five-days of music and performing arts. This year's event will see headline performances from British rock/pop band The 1975, veteran singer Neil Young and his band the Chrome Hearts, and US pop star Olivia Rodrigo. Sir Rod's performance will come after the singer postponed a string of concerts in the US, due to take place this month, while he recovered from flu. The singer has teased he will welcome a number of guests to the stage during his set, including his former Faces bandmember Ronnie Wood.
