Yorkshire sign Pakistan batter Ul-Haq for run-in
The 29-year-old comes replaces India's Ruturaj Gaikwad, who will not be joining Yorkshire for their final five County Championship fixtures.
Gaikwad had agreed a deal which would begin from Tuesday's game against reigning champions Surrey at Scarborough but pulled out for personal reasons, and he will also be available for the
One-Day Cup.
Ul-Haq, who previously had a short-term spell with Somerset in 2022 when he played three County Championship games, will now go straight into Yorkshire's squad to face the Division One leaders.
"We're delighted that Imam has joined us and that he will be available immediately," general manager of cricket Gavin Hamilton said.
"Whilst we were naturally disappointed that Ruturaj couldn't join up with the squad, in Imam we have an exceptional player of proven international quality.
"Imam has an impressive record and is already familiar with domestic cricket in this country which will stand us in good stead for a crucial block of fixtures."
Ul-Haq has played 24 Tests, 75 one-dayers and two T20 internationals for Pakistan, scoring a combined total of 4,741 runs, including 12 centuries, according to a BBC news.
He also helped Pakistan Television win the domestic President's Trophy earlier this year.

"I Was Disappointed At...": Karun Nair Breaks Silence On Ups And Downs On England Tour
Coming back to the Indian team after a gap of 8 years, Karun Nair earned the much-deserved 'second chance' on the tour of England, but his performances didn't quite reflect the hunger he had shown to make a comeback to the Test team. Nair only scored one half-century on the tour, that too in the first innings of the final Test of the series, before producing another insipid show in the second innings. With the series now over, uncertainties of another chance are understandably looming over his Test future. The veteran batter himself admitted that he should've converted the half-century at the Oval into a hundred but was disappointed to not do so. "I was disappointed at not being able to convert the start at The Oval into a century," he said in a chat with ESPNCricinfo. "But looking back, it was quite important to grind my way on that first day with the team in a tricky position. I'd done well there previously; I'd gotten a 150 for Northants against Surrey. The nerves were there, but I was feeling good. I was hoping to convert, which I couldn't.". The series concluded 2-2, with nothing separating the two teams in an extremely closely-fought 5-match series. While Nair continued to search for an absolute high on a personal level, he has plenty to reflect on, now that the assignment has ended. "It was an up-and-down series in that sense, and I did reflect a lot. But it's also important to let go of what has happened and look forward to what I need to do in the next few months. It's about keeping my focus levels up and making sure I go on and make big scores, irrespective of the level I'm playing at," he added. Nair's focus is now shifting to the Maharaja Trophy T20, where he'll look to do his best as the Mysore Warriors look to defend their title.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma Not Part Of ODI World Cup Plans, Can Play On 'One Condition': Report
Indian cricket icons, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, remain active in the One-Day International format, having recently quit both T20Is and Tests. While the Indian team has moved on from the two batting greats in the two formats, Rohit still remains the skipper of the 50-over side, while Virat is as influential as ever. When it comes to the ODI format, the 2027 World Cup seems to be the target for the duo, though neither of them has officially communicated their future plan. However, as per a report, it isn't going to be easy for Virat and Rohit to play the ODI World Cup in two years' time despite their success in the format. As per a report in Dainik Jagran, neither Virat nor Rohit is guaranteed a spot in India's 2027 ODI World Cup squad. With none of them playing T20Is and Tests, match time in the coming years is also going to be limited. The situation, hence, triggers a big doubt in the minds of the selection committee and the top BCCI bosses. However, the report has also claimed that both Kohli and Rohit would have to play the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the domestic one-day competition that starts in December this year, if they are to keep themselves in contention for a spot in the ODI World Cup. Without Vijay Hazare Trophy participation, the doors are unlikely to open for them. "Vira Kohli and Rohit Sharma do not fit in our plans for the ODI World Cup 2027," the report quoted a source from the team management as saying. The report even claimed that the duo wanted to be a part of the England tour but were informed by the selectors that they are unlikely to be picked. Hence, they decided to announce their retirement from the format. With India's next ODI assignment being against Australia in October, the report claims that the series might see the iconic duo bring curtains to their international careers, as a return to domestic cricket at this stage seems highly unlikely. The success of Shubman Gill, India's Test captain, in the recently concluded series in England, has also strengthened the selection committee's belief in him as a long-term skipper. There are many who see Gill as India's all-format captain in the long run. With many youngsters making their mark in the team, the selectors might just decide to persist with fresh talent for the ODI World Cup in 2027. While transition in T20Is and Tests has been successfully made, the same is expected to be witnessed in the one-day format. The developments, hence, leave Kohli and Rohit in a precarious situation.

Chengdu, Aug 9 (UNI) Dragon boat made its debut as an official sport at the World Games today, with Indonesia claiming the first gold medal in the open 8-seater 2,000m pursuit race. Launching first on the Xinglong Lake Hubin Arena, the Indonesian crew powered to victory in a time of nine minutes 8.12 second. Host China followed closely to place second in 9:19.22, while Spain earned the bronze medal with a time of 9:23.75. Finals for these events, along with the 10-seater 2,000m pursuit race, are scheduled for Sunday. "The competition in dragon boat is very fierce," said Zhao Xiaoli, an international referee for the event. "You cannot underestimate any team, especially in the short-distance races where the gaps between teams are very small." Zhao also highlighted the sport's global appeal, suggesting its popularity overseas might rival or exceed that in China. "Worldwide, many people participate in this sport during their holidays." The venue also hosted canoe marathon finals on Saturday. Denmark's Mads Brandt Pedersen took gold in the men's K1 short distance event with a time of 13:45.46, ahead of South Africa's Hamish Lovemore and Portugal's Jose Ramalho.
