Deion Sanders addresses NFL draft ordeal, mentions health issue

"When you sit up there and say something like he went into a meeting unprepared, like dude, Shedeur Sanders, who's had six different coordinators?" Deion Sanders said on the podcast.
He said claims about his son's professionalism were untrue and said to "stop lying."
"They want to create these narratives and create these stories and then attach them to a kid that ain't never done nothing wrong," Sanders said.
One rumor was that Shedeur wore headphones to a team meeting.
Sanders shot that down.
"You gonna tell me he had on headphones, Shedeur?" Deion Sanders asked. "Anybody know my son understand he's a professional. Like he's gonna go into a meeting with headphones on?"
Samuel told him Shedeur is a "dawg" who would "rise to the top."
Sanders then admitted how the situation made him feel.
"It did hurt," Sanders said. "It did hurt."
But he said two of his sons are using their NFL draft disappointments as motivation and that both were "built" for this situation. His middle son Shilo, a safety, was not drafted and instead signed with Tampa Bay as an undrafted free agent. Deion Sanders cited the case of legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady as an example after Brady was selected in the sixth round of the draft in 2000.
"The Bible says God uses the foolish things to confound the wise, so it was some foolish stuff that went on, but you know what? That gave them something that they needed ... like that edge that Tom had," Sanders said.

Sanders, 57, has been out of the media spotlight since the NFL draft in April and suggested it was related to a health issue.
"I hope you're feeling better," Samuel said to Sanders.
Sanders said "what I'm dealing with right now is at whole nother level" but said he's coming back after losing about 14 pounds. He previously had several surgeries to deal with blood clots in his legs.
His Buffaloes team opens the season on Aug. 29 at home against Georgia Tech.

Pat McAfee leads the tributes to Jim Irsay as family and friends gather to say final goodbye to late Colts owner

Pat McAfee was among the loved ones of Jim Irsay who gathered to remember the late Colts owner at a private memorial service on Monday. Irsay, who was owner and CEO of the NFL's Indianapolis Colts, died in his sleep last month at the age of 65. His family and friends headed to St. Luke's United Methodist Church on Monday, with former Colts coach Tony Dungy and several Indianapolis players joining the memorial service. McAfee played for the Colts between 2009 and 2016 and the former punter took to social media to pay tribute to Irsay following the service. 'Rest easy Big Man… Today was beautiful.. We celebrated the hell out of you,' McAfee wrote alongside a picture showing a card and booklet from the service. The Colts have vowed to hold a public tribute to Irsay following his death. His family, meanwhile, encouraged fans to donate to 'Kicking the Stigma'. The Colts' mental health initiative was one of many causes championed by Irsay before his death. Rest easy Big Man… @JimIrsay — Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) June 2, 2025 Irsay was just 12 when his father Robert bought the team in 1972. Jim worked across the organization - including as a ball boy and in ticket sales - before becoming the youngest general manager in NFL history at the age of 24. After Robert Irsay moved the team from Baltimore to Indianapolis, his son took sole control of the Colts in 1997. He was just 37 and the youngest owner in league history. He was an outspoken and sometimes controversial owner but Irsay was in charge in February 2007 when the Colts won the Super Bowl against the Chicago Bears with Peyton Manning at quarterback. He also oversaw the construction of their Lucas Oil Stadium. Away from football, however, Irsay battled crippling addiction problems and personal demons. He had three daughters with ex-wife Meg Coyle. Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Casey Foyt and Kalen Jackson are now co-owners of the Colts. Last week, Indianapolis legend Reggie Wayne broke down in tears as he discussed Irsay's recent passing. 'I told the receivers, a lot of you don't really know him but he would've done anything for anybody,' Wayne said. 'He would've gave the clothes off his back… I said, you have to push your a**es for him. He would've done that for y'all. So, that's what I told them. I said: "Y'all got homework to do, man. Read about him. Learn about him."'

Dallas Cowboys hero Dez Bryant slams NFL as gay pride post resurfaces: 'This is far from right'

Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant has attacked the NFL after their 2021 pride post resurfaced over social media. The 30-second video, shared by the NFL in late June 2021, says: 'Football is gay. Football is lesbian. Football is beautiful. Football is queer. Fotball is transgender. Football is for everyone.' The four-year-old post also encourages followers to donate to the Trevor Project, a suicide prevention organization aimed at helping LGBTQ youth. Now, at the start of pride month this year, the post has recirculated around social media and was noticed by Bryant - who had no hesitancy in underlining how unimpressed he was. 'Football is gay Football is queer Football is transgender.. these are wild statements to my silliness,' he wrote on X. 'I'm going to proudly tell my boys football is none of these things. I have nothing against Gays but this is far from right.' Football is gay Football is queer Football is transgender.. these are wild statements to my silliness. I'm going to proudly tell my boys football is none of these things. I have nothing against Gays but this is far from right — Dez Bryant (@DezBryant) June 2, 2025 Bryant has three childen, two of which are boys. His comment inevitably came under scrutiny, with one fan saying that 'gay people are persecuted while straight folk are not.' The 36-year-old Bryant wrote back: 'People in general are being persecuted daily.' Another follower responded to Bryant and said: 'You're digging a deeper hole and making yourself sound ignorant bro. 'It's not forcing anything, they didn't make a 'GAY Commerical', the commerical doesn't JUST say gay things. Seems to me like YOUR focus is other places.' 'I don't have a problem with gays… I just stated my opinion,' Bryant said back, while in another post to a now-deleted comment, spoke about gay players in the NFL. 'It's gay players in the forcing it in people's send the wrong message... Football is a real community, like the gay community,' Bryant wrote. 'Imagine telling gays they have to advocate for straight probably would have a problem.' Bryant then sent another message addressing the backlash he provoked, saying: 'I hate social media at times because people post fake positive things all the time and get bothered whenever folks have a real conversation. 'It should be a written rule saying you can't have an opinion because people are sensitive and all social platforms should be used for marketing purposes only lol.. I bet the goofy fake woke people have the most skeletons in their closet.' Bryant spent seven years with the Cowboys, from 2010 until 2017. In 2018, he tore his Achilles two days after signing with the New Orleans Saints. In 2020, he signed with the Baltimore Ravens and made six appearances.

Patriots WR Stefon Diggs appears at OTAs after viral boat video

June 2 - After missing the New England Patriots' first five days of organized team activities, veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs showed up for Monday's session at Gillette Stadium and participated in some drills. Diggs' appearance was noteworthy not just because veterans aren't required to take part in OTAs, but because the four-time Pro Bowler recently went viral on social media due to a video of him enjoying himself on a boat with three bikini-clad women that included top-selling rapper Cardi B. A portion of the video showed the 31-year-old Diggs holding a plastic bag filled with a pink substance. That led to speculation that Diggs, who signed a three-year, $69 million contract in March, could be on the outs with his new team and new Pats coach Mike Vrabel. While Diggs did not entertain questions after catching passes from Patriots quarterback Drake Maye on Monday, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels did share thoughts with reporters. "It's a voluntary part of the year," McDaniels said. "We know that. I don't know if we've ever had perfect attendance at these things in general. As a coach, selfishly, you love it when they're all here because you feel like you've got them all in the classroom and all on the field and all the rest of it. "(Diggs is) here today and we're excited to have an opportunity to work with the guys that are out here and available to us. So, I know he's staying up on the information and the material. And there's so many things and opportunities for us to teach all our guys going forward -- between the rest of the practices here in the spring and then going into the summer and, you know, the many days we have before we actually kick the ball off in September. So I'm not concerned about Stef in that regard. The Patriots have two more days of OTAs -- Tuesday and Thursday -- followed by mandatory minicamps June 9-11 before the team officially adjourns until training camp begins on July 24. Diggs, who's still recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered Oct. 27 in his final game for the Houston Texans, has amassed 857 receptions for 10,491 yards and 70 touchdowns during his 10-year career split among the Minnesota Vikings (2015-19), Buffalo Bills (2020-23) and Texans (2024). --Field Level Media
