Small aircraft incident leaves runway at ORF temporarily closed

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Several flights at Norfolk International Airport (ORF) were diverted to Richmond International Airport (RIC) after an incident with a small aircraft Friday morning.
According to officials, around 10:40 a.m. crews at ORF responded to a disabled small aircraft after it left the runway while landing just after 10 a.m. The aircraft was later identified as a Piper-28.
10 On Your Side viewer Charles Olson sent video of the aircraft being towed off of the scene.
No injuries or damage were reported, but airport officials said Runway 5/23 was temporarily closed while crews worked to clear the scene. The runway was reopened at 11:14 a.m.
ORF said four commercial flights were impacted by the incident and had to be diverted to RIC. All diverted flights are now expected to arrive at ORF as originally scheduled.

(WAVY) – Franklin City Public Schools announced Friday, June 6, they will participate in the Summer Food Service Program, which provides meals to children under 18 regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, disability or age. The announcement further emphasizes that there will be no discrimination when it comes to food service and meals are on a first-come, first-serve basis. The meals will be given out at two different sites, S.P. Morton Elementary School and Franklin High School, and children are required to stay onsite while eating their meals. Both schools will be giving out meals Monday – Thursday, but times and dates differ for when the meals are available. Franklin High School Available dates June 23 – July 31, 2025; Aug. 4 – Aug. 14, 2025 Summer School Breakfast 7:45 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. Community Breakfast 8:45 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Summer School Lunch 11:10 a.m. – 11:55 a.m. Community Lunch 12:00 p.m. – 12:45 p.m. S.P.
