Small aircraft incident leaves runway at ORF temporarily closed
NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Several flights at Norfolk International Airport (ORF) were diverted to Richmond International Airport (RIC) after an incident with a small aircraft Friday morning.
According to officials, around 10:40 a.m. crews at ORF responded to a disabled small aircraft after it left the runway while landing just after 10 a.m. The aircraft was later identified as a Piper-28.
10 On Your Side viewer Charles Olson sent video of the aircraft being towed off of the scene.
No injuries or damage were reported, but airport officials said Runway 5/23 was temporarily closed while crews worked to clear the scene. The runway was reopened at 11:14 a.m.
ORF said four commercial flights were impacted by the incident and had to be diverted to RIC. All diverted flights are now expected to arrive at ORF as originally scheduled.
