Haj time: Over 11,000 Malaysian Muslims land in Mecca and Medina, more on the way
MECCA, May 12 — A total of 11,396 Malaysian haj pilgrims have safely arrived in the Holy Land via 39 flights that departed from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
Malaysian Haj Delegation head Mohd Hisham Harun said that 5,253 pilgrims are currently in Madinah, while another 6,143 are in Makkah.
'So far, 39 flights have departed from Malaysia and landed at Madinah Airport. These flights are part of the 47 scheduled to arrive in Madinah.
'Insya-Allah, flights to Jeddah will begin on May 14, after which pilgrims will head straight to Makkah to perform their umrah ahead of the haj,' he said at the weekly press conference here today.
For this year's haj season, the Saudi Arabian government has approved a quota of 31,600 for Malaysian pilgrims, who are scheduled to arrive in Madinah and Makkah in stages.
The first group (KT1), comprising 112 men and 141 women, arrived at Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah on April 29, while the final flight is scheduled for June 1.
According to Mohd Hisham, Malaysian pilgrims in Makkah have completed their umrah without any issue.
'In preparation for the wukuf in Arafah, Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has planned various programmes, including ibadah guidance sessions, to ensure pilgrims are physically and spiritually ready for the peak of the haj,' he said.
He added that, to date, 2,059 pilgrims have sought treatment at TH health centres, with the most common issues being respiratory-related illnesses such as coughs and colds, followed by dry skin due to the hot and dry weather.
He also advised upcoming pilgrims to perform light exercises during their flights to promote blood circulation and reduce the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a condition caused by blood clots that can affect internal organs. — Bernama

Speaking to reporters at KLIA Terminal 1, a 63-year-old trader from Batu Pahat, Johor, said the ordeal began after their initial six-day stay in Madinah. 'Things were still manageable in Madinah. But once we were moved to Mecca, everything changed. We had to walk through deserts and climb hills. It was dangerous,' he said. The pilgrims claim they were smuggled into the Holy City via unofficial and hazardous routes to avoid detection by Saudi authorities, as none of them possessed valid Haj visas, a violation of Saudi law that could carry serious legal and safety implications. According to earlier reports, the group had departed for Saudi Arabia on May 9. They later claimed they were held in cramped, dark rooms and asked to pay an additional RM9,000 to retrieve their belongings despite already having paid RM30,000 each for the Haj package. One of the returnees, a 64-year-old lecturer and wife of the Johor trader, described how food was scarce and the group was left to ration minimal meals. 'We shared one fried egg and two small fish between five people. Two pieces of chicken were divided among seven. When we asked why, the organiser told us to accept our fate and place our trust in God,' she said. Forty-eight of the 49 pilgrims returned to Malaysia via Turkish Airlines flight TK60. One individual is believed to have continued their travels to Switzerland. The TH media personnel not only carried out reporting duties in the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah, but also had the opportunity to perform the haj, making the assignment a sacred mission filled with trust, responsibility, and spiritual reflection. Malaysian Haj Delegation head Mohd Hisham Harun expressed his deep appreciation for the commitment and dedication of the media team, describing them as the backbone of communication throughout this year's haj season. 'I found the coverage carried out by the media personnel to be excellent and effective, receiving an overwhelming response, especially on social media platforms. 'It allowed Malaysians to closely follow the atmosphere and developments involving their family members in the holy city of Makkah during the pilgrimage,' he told reporters. Meanwhile, Astro Awani executive editor Zaiful Ariffin described the opportunity to report on the haj as a great trust placed upon him and his fellow media practitioners in their efforts to deliver accurate, comprehensive and heartfelt information to Malaysians. Malaysia begins Haj return flights, 31,600 pilgrims to fly home by July 10
SEPANG, June 15 — The first group of Malaysian haj pilgrims arrived safely at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 8.50 pm last night, marking the start of the second phase of repatriation operations for the 1446H/2025M pilgrimage season. The group of 283 pilgrims, mainly from Kedah and Selangor, departed from King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah aboard Malaysia Airlines' AMAL flight MH8251 at 5.40 am local time. Their arrival was welcomed by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, alongside Tabung Haji (TH) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Hussain and TH Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mustakim Mohamad. 'Alhamdulillah, this year's haj operations have gone smoothly and we are now beginning to bring the pilgrims home safely,' said Mohd Na'im. He also congratulated TH for receiving the prestigious Labaytum Diamond Award, recognising the agency's efforts to enhance service quality and haj management internationally. Among the key successes this year, Mohd Na'im noted, was the safe completion of wuquf, the pivotal standing at Arafah, by all Malaysian pilgrims, including 95 ailing pilgrims who were transported in 10 specially arranged buses under the Safari Wuquf programme.
