War 2 Worldwide Box Office Day 2: Jr NTR's Hindi debut falls short of expectations, mints THIS amount

'War 2', the highly anticipated sequel starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, has made waves at the global box office, collecting a total gross of ₹ 79.95 crore worldwide by its second day. The action-packed espionage thriller, part of Yash Raj Films' expanding Spy Universe, has now officially become the biggest worldwide opening of Hrithik Roshan's career. On its opening day, August 14, 'War 2' earned a domestic net of ₹ 52.5 crore. However, this figure amounts to only 16% of the film's reported production budget of ₹ 325 crore. Trade analysts note that for the film to be declared a 'hit', it must achieve a minimum of ₹ 650 crore in net domestic earnings — setting a high bar in an increasingly competitive box office landscape. Overseas, the film has shown moderate traction, with an estimated opening day collection of just over $3 million (approximately ₹ 25 crore). This brings the tentative worldwide opening day total to around ₹ 90–95 crore, although final overseas figures are still pending. The film had been expected to post stronger initial figures, particularly given the addition of Telugu superstar Jr NTR to the cast — a move aimed at expanding the franchise's reach in South Indian markets. Despite this, the early performance in the Telugu states has been described by analysts as 'somewhat subpar', with the regional contribution reportedly in the mid- ₹ 60 crore range. Still, 'War 2' has surpassed the opening of its predecessor, 'War' (2019), which grossed ₹ 77.95 crore worldwide on day one, including ₹ 15 crore from overseas markets. With a high-stakes budget and considerable star power, all eyes are now on War 2's weekend performance to determine whether it can build on this early momentum or face an uphill battle at the box office.

Karan Johar says Bollywood faces a ‘director crisis', urges focus on core strengths

Renowned Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar has sparked conversation with his candid take on the current state of Hindi cinema. Speaking in a recent interview, Johar admitted that the industry is facing a 'great crisis' when it comes to directors capable of delivering large-scale, front-footed mainstream blockbusters that pull audiences into theatres. Johar believes a generational shift is at the heart of the problem. He explained that a whole generation in North India grew up on a different kind of Hindi cinema—romantic dramas, Shah Rukh Khan–era love stories, and films shot in exotic foreign locales—heavily influenced by globalisation. According to him, these filmmakers never experienced making 'testosterone-driven' mass entertainers and now struggle to convincingly emulate them. 'When they try, they go flat on their face,' he remarked. The Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani director emphasised that Bollywood should stop chasing the South Indian formula of mass masala and epic-scale action, and instead focus on genres it has excelled at for decades. Johar praised the recent success of Saiyaara, directed by Mohit Suri, as an example of Hindi cinema playing to its strengths. He noted that the film earned praise from South filmmakers—an unusual reversal of recent trends where Bollywood directors were the ones congratulating their Southern counterparts for box-office triumphs. 'We need to bring back conviction in what we do best,' Johar concluded.

Param Sundari: Sidharth-Janhvi's Film Lands In Controversy Over Flirty Church Scene, Christian Group Protests

New Delhi: While the trailer of Param Sundari, led by Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, was much-applauded, it soon found itself embroiled in a controversy. The trailer of the film begins with a flirty scene between Sidharth's Param and Janhvi's Sundari in a church. A Christian group has now questioned CBFC on their clearance of the scene and demanded the removal of the same. What's Happening A Christian group named Watchdog Foundation has expressed their strong disapproval of the romantic scene featuring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor in a church in their upcoming film Param Sundari. They have written to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the Mumbai Police, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, and the Maharashtra government about the same. Advocate Godfrey Pimenta of the Watchdog Foundation said, "The CBFC, established under the Cinematograph Act, 1952, is entrusted with certifying films while taking into account both artistic expression and respect for religious feelings." The letter further mentioned, "the church is a sacred place of worship for Christians, and it should not be depicted as a stage for indecent content. This portrayal not only disrespects the spiritual sanctity of the religious place of worship but also deeply offends the sensibilities of the Catholic community." The Foundation group has also threatened public protests if the scenes are not removed from the film and promotional videos. They have further demanded an FIR against the lead actors, director and producer for hurting the religious sentiments of the Catholic community. sidharth malhotra as param sachdev in param sundari (2025) 🫶🏼 — akriti (@mallhotrasgirl) August 13, 2025 About Param Sundari The film marks their first collaboration on screen.
