Pet Bird Uses Spot-On iPhone Alarm Impression to Wake Sleeping Owner

A cockatiel from Brazil recently went viral on social media after his owner revealed his trick for waking her up in the morning, leaving internet users in stitches.
In a hilarious video shared on TikTok in July under the username @ariel_calopsit, the gray bird with a bright yellow crest can be seen approaching his owner as she tries to snooze her iPhone alarm, singing to the tune right in her ear, as if making extra sure she wakes up.
"Modern alarm clock," reads the caption, as the poster covers her head with the blanket hoping he will go away. Even after snoozing the alarm, the bird continues to sing the song until the very end of the clip.
Cockatiels are the best known and most widely kept member of the parrot family, and are known for being excellent pets, especially for households with children.
These birds tend to be happy when entertained, and according to VCA Animal Hospitals, it's very important to take them out of their cage daily and provide them with a TV or radio to listen to, so that they don't get bored.
While they have a limited ability to talk, their voice is known for being whistle-like, perfect for a morning alarm clock! Male cockatiels tend to be better talkers than females.
These native Australian birds can live up to 25 years, and enjoy a range of foods, including birdseed, food pellets, vegetables, fruits, and the occasional treat. They should also always have access to fresh, clean water, in a separate dispenser.
PetMD says that a nutritionally complete pelleted food should make up at least 60–70 percent of a cockatiel's diet. The medical website also warns owners against sharing food from their mouths or plates with their cockatiel.
That is because in our mouths live some microorganisms that, while being harmless to us, can cause illness in birds.

The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 51.6 million views and 3.4 million likes on TikTok.
One user, Wael Nawwal, commented: "Now that doesn't come with a snooze button."
Paul said: "I think the snooze button is broken. My parents have cockatiels and they bark like dogs and ring like phone."
Bianco added: "You need to remove the battery."

Dessert Recalled Nationwide as FDA Issues Risk Warning
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The recall of cinnamon bun desserts produced by the Michigan-based Superior Foods Company has been given a Class II classification by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Friday. The recall was in response to fears the desserts could have been contaminated with plastic. Newsweek contacted the Superior Foods Company for comment on Saturday via email outside of regular office hours. Why It Matters A Class II risk classification (one of three) refers to a situation in which the "use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote," according to the FDA. Foreign material contamination can potentially cause injury, and repeated incidents raise questions about the effectiveness of current safety protocols. Food recalls due to contamination or mislabeling can undermine consumer trust and place vulnerable individuals (such as children, the elderly, or those with allergies) at greater risk. What To Know The Superior Foods Company initially issued a nationwide voluntary recall for some of its 7-ounce packs of cinnamon bun desserts, sold under the Park Street Deli brand in plastic tubs, on July 24. On August 8, the product was given a Class II classification by the FDA. The recall covered 19,368 retail units. The recalled products have UPC number 4061462440151 and a sell by date of November 8, 2025. The FDA said a press release was not issued for the recall. This week, the agency also classified a voluntary recall of a macaroni and cheese snack, produced by Saint Louis based Louisa Food Products, Inc., as a Class II. The initial recall was issued on July 17 after a supplier conducted its own recall after discovering possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. On July 21, Los Angeles-based Herbalife International of America issued a voluntary recall for a consignment of its Relaxation Tea following an ingredients mix-up. This was categorized as a Class II recall by the FDA on August 6. Separately, DFA Dairy Brands, LLC has announced a recall of products produced by the Friendly's brand of Cookies & Cream ice cream in response to possible undeclared soy and wheat. Smith Collection/Gado/GETTY What People Are Saying On its official website, the Superior Foods Company said: "Built on the promise to ensure success for every single customer. Driven by the commitment to provide premium quality products and exceptional service. We are Superior Foods. For over 70 years, this dedication has not wavered as we continue to expand, seek out innovation, and push boundaries, all to be Superior for our customers." What Happens Next? The FDA will likely continue to monitor the Superior Foods Company product recall and will be looking out for any adverse health impacts, though none have been reported so far.

Thousands Told To Stop Grilling, Burning Incense
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Thousands of people living across a swath of southern California have been urged to avoid grilling, burning incense and using gasoline-powered garden tools by the National Weather Service (NWS) amid a series of air quality alerts for fine particle pollution. Why It Matters The NWS warned that particles in wildfire smoke can "cause serious health problems such as heart attacks, strokes, asthma attacks, and difficulty breathing." These can impact anyone, but the young, old, pregnant and those with lung or heart disease are particularly at risk. What To Know On its website, the NWS said air quality alerts had been issued by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD), which regulates air pollution for a stretch of southern California including Orange County and parts of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. For the Santa Clarita Valley, including the settlements of Santa Clarita, Newhall and Valencia, the AQMD imposed an air quality alert applying from Friday afternoon through Sunday morning due to particles in wildfire smoke. People living in this area who see or smell smoke are urged to "remain indoors with windows and doors closed," "avoid intense outdoor physical activity" and run their air conditioners and/or air purifiers. Whole home fans and swamp coolers, which bring in air from outside, should be avoided unless there is no other means to keep cool. If people have to be outdoors they should only do so briefly and waring a N-95 facemask. Other sources of pollution should be avoided including fires, candles, burning incense, grilling, and gasoline-powered garden equipment. The South Coast AQMD has also issued an air quality alert "due to harmful levels of ozone (smog) pollution" for Santa Clarita Valley, Western San Fernando Valley, Eastern San Fernando Valley, Interstate 5 Corridor, Western San Gabriel Mountains and Highway 14 Corridor, Eastern San Gabriel Mountains and Los Angeles County San Gabriel Valley until 8 p.m. PT on Saturday. Individuals in this area should "delay trips to the gas station and the use of household chemicals" and "limit the use" of gasoline-powered garden equipment. Air quality levels should be monitored as needed. If the Air Quality Index (AQI) is "hazardous" (maroon) all people should avoid outdoor activity. If it is "very unhealthy" (purple) sensitive groups should avoid outdoor activity, whilst everyone should stay away from intense outdoor activity. Smoke rising from a hillside as the Gifford Fire burns on August 6, 2025 in Los Padres National Forest, California. Eric Thayer/GETTY When the AQI is "unhealthy" (red), sensitive groups shouldn't spend extended periods outside. If it is "unhealthy for sensitive groups," (orange) they should limit outdoor activity. An air quality alert over ozone pollution has also been issued by the South Coast AQMD until 8 p.m. ET covering San Bernardino and Riverside County Valleys, The Inland Empire, San Bernardino County Mountains, Riverside County Mountains, Coachella Valley and the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning. The same advice applies to these areas. Separately, the Ventura County Air Pollution Control District has issued an air quality alert covering Ventura County until 12 p.m. ET on Saturday due to "increased particulate matter from wildfire smoke in Fillmore/Piru." The NWS warns exact pollution levels in this area could fluctuate significantly depending on wind conditions. The children, the elderly and those with heart or respiratory conditions are urged to avoid strenuous activities. Those with heart or lung diseases should follow their doctors' active. What People Are Saying AccuWeather meteorologist Brandon Buckingham told Newsweek previously: "Ozone is a secondary pollutant, meaning it's not emitted directly from sources, but is formed through chemical reactions. These reactions require sunlight and higher temperatures, making warmer months more prone to ozone formation. When air is stagnant, pollutants don't get dispersed, allowing ozone to build up to unhealthy levels." What Happens Next? Hot weather is expected across much of the U.S. over the next few days, with NWS heat advisory notices in place for parts of Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, California, Oregon and Washington.
