Throwback - When Emma Watson revealed the reason for her acting break: "The thing I found really hard..."

Emma Watson
, the prolific actress, has been avoiding being in front of the screen since she wrapped

's 2019 hit, 'Little Women.' While she still stands as a fan-favourite persona, the 35-year-old once expressed her reasons for stepping away from acting.
Emma Watson's hiatus from Hollywood...
In a 2023 interview with the Financial Times, Emma expressed that she wasn't very happy with the profession. Not only did she feel caged, but Watson also felt discontent with how little she had control over something she had to sell to the audience.
'The thing I found really hard was that I had to go out and sell something that I really didn't have very much control over,' she said, before adding, 'To stand in front of a film and have every journalist be able to say, 'How does this align with your viewpoint?' It was very difficult to have to be the face and the spokesperson for things where I didn't get to be involved in the process.'
Furthermore, Emma opened up about being accountable, which caused frustration as she didn't have a voice or didn't have say. She continued about wanting to not hate herself, 'And I started to realise that I only wanted to stand in front of things where if someone was going to give me flak about it, I could say, in a way that didn't make me hate myself, 'Yes, I screwed up, it was my decision, I should have done better.''
Will Emma Watson ever return?
While the wall between acting and Emma Watson still stands, it begs the question of her return on screen. The answer would be yes; however, the 'Harry Potter' actress is happy to wait until the next project aligns with her values. The British actress said, 'I love what I do. It's finding a way to do it where I don't have to fracture myself into different faces and people. And I just don't want to switch into robot mode any more.
Does that make sense?'

Movie Review: Kristin Scott Thomas directs Scarlett Johansson in comedic drama 'My Mother's Wedding'

Before Kristin Scott Thomas turned 12, she lost her father and stepfather. Both were Royal Navy pilots who died in crashes. The first happened when she was 5. The second at age 11. Thomas uses these facts, a kind of origin story, as the basis for her directorial debut, 'My Mother's Wedding,' a comedic drama about family, trauma and getting on with it that opens in theaters Friday. Movie Review: Kristin Scott Thomas directs Scarlett Johansson in comedic drama 'My Mother's Wedding' Knowing that the story comes from a real place is important for the experience. It gives 'My Mother's Wedding,' a perfectly average film that doesn't quite land the way it should, an emotional depth that it's otherwise lacking. This is a strange shortcoming considering the caliber of the cast, including Thomas as the bride to be, and Sienna Miller, Emily Beecham and Scarlett Johansson as her daughters. But it's a cruel reminder that a good hook, talented actors, one killer monologue and a picturesque setting aren't guarantees that a movie will work. In the film, the deaths may be in the distant past, but they continue to haunt Diana's adult daughters as she prepares to marry another. Diana's new man is not a dashing pilot, forever preserved in handsome youth. Geoffrey is very gray. He likes to talk about birds, ospreys in particular, has never had children and comes with a very silly last name that she plans to take. Her girls are not exactly impressed, though they've all got their own stuff to deal with. It should be said that Johansson is indeed playing a British woman in this film, and while I don't feel qualified to comment on the nuances of her accent, all I can say is that there is a consistently strange disconnect to hear it coming out of her mouth. Johansson is a great actor who I've believed in many wilder roles, from Marvel movies right on down to her Ellen Greene riff during 'Saturday Night Live's' 50th anniversary show. But, somehow, she's hard to buy as Katherine Frost: A British, lesbian Royal Navy officer in a longtime relationship with a woman named Jack . Miller's character is Victoria, a Hollywood actor known for franchise dreck and short-lived relationships. And Beecham is the youngest Georgina, a nurse who suspects that her husband is having an affair. To find out, the girls hire a private detective to surveil her house and show them the footage after the wedding. It's a very busy, fraught weekend for everyone. There's lots of fretting over why Katherine won't marry Jack, and why Victoria is dancing around a relationship with a wealthy, older French man when her childhood crush still pines for her. There's lingering anxiety about their mom marrying this man who seems so unlike the two heroes that came before and much discussion about the importance of last names, marriage and making sure kids feel like they belong to someone. Some things get resolved, but it's hard to shake the feeling that everyone might need a new therapist by the end. 'My Mother's Wedding' also has a silly lightness to it that's aiming for something along the lines of a Richard Curtis romantic comedy. But coherency of the vision is limited, as is the audience's investment, though there are some lovely and inspired touches like using Iranian artist Reza Riahi to hand paint several animated flashback vignettes based on her memories of her fathers. Thomas co-wrote the script with her husband, journalist John Micklethwait, which includes a particularly poignant monologue for her character telling her daughters, essentially, to grow up and move on — a mature and worthy statement that might come a bit too late. 'My Mother's Wedding' feels only partially realized. But Thomas did have the good sense to end with a song that might just conjure up some feelings for any 'Heartburn' fans out there: Carly Simon's 'Coming Around Again,' this time a duet with Alanis Morissette. 'My Mother's Wedding,' a Vertical release in theaters Friday, is rated R by the Motion Picture Association for 'brief nudity, some sexual material and language.' Running time: 95 minutes. Two stars out of four. This article was generated from an automated news agency feed without modifications to text.

Joey Tribbiani cried over ‘Little Women'. Still think reading is not for you?

(Written by Manpreet Walia) Your professor tried and failed. Your partner facepalmed and gave up for good. Your friends left the 'trying to convince you to read' chat years ago. Even the Bookstagram algorithm could not hack the 'non-reader' armour you so proudly wear. So are you telling me no one can convince you to read? It cannot be that despite a rich corpus of stories and an extensive spectrum of genres, ranging from classics to fantasy, young adult to erotic, historical fiction to non-fiction, there does not exist a genre seductive enough to tempt you. However, before you scroll past this article, let me clarify, I am not here to cajole you into reading. You don't read? Sure. But you binge-watch shows starring characters who literally romance books like they are people. I bet these five TV show characters can at least get you to think about giving reading a chance: While most Friends characters are occasionally seen with a book in hand, it's Joey and Rachel swapping Little Women for The Shining that truly takes the cake. The charming but dim-witted Joey gets emotionally invested in Beth's illness, while Rachel, our ditzy fashion queen hides The Shining in the freezer because it is too scary. There is even an episode where Joey, while lounging on Rachel's clean sheets, discovers her erotic novel. Watching him learn words like 'vicar' is peak buddy-reading bliss and a reminder that if the 'cool' ones can read, so can you. ● Little Women by Louisa May Alcott ● The Shining by Stephen King ● The Velveteen Rabbit (Joey-level wholesome) ● Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding ● Outlander by Diana Gabaldon (for Rachel's romantic side) I would be doing a disservice to readers across the world if I did not begin with the blue-eyed, rapid-speaking literary fangirl to ever grace a TV screen. The Ultimate Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge exists for a reason, because Rory can practically sweet-talk anyone into reading. Remember when she convinced Dean to give Leo Tolstoy another shot? And who could forget her iconic 'I live in two worlds' speech, where she talks about disappearing into books to feel less alone? ● Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy ● The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath ● Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen ● The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath If reading like you are plotting world domination were a character, it would definitely be Wednesday Addams. In the Netflix reboot, she is constantly caught reading obscure Gothic novels, quoting Edgar Allan Poe, and even writing her own murder mystery novel in her dorm room. Here I would like to quote my English teacher who would often very rightly remark, 'You should read books to write one.' So if Wednesday, a morbid girl obsessed with the macabre can be sadistic and still read, what is holding you back? ● The Raven and Other Poems by Edgar Allan Poe ● Frankenstein by Mary Shelley ● Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë ● The Secret History by Donna Tartt You might not immediately peg Fleabag as a 'reader,' but her story is built around the kind of emotional excavation that comes from reading great literature. And when the hot priest hands her a copy of The Holy Bible, she probably wanted to say, 'Thanks, I'll pass.' But instead, she reads it. In the bathtub. But she reads it. Her shelves might not hold many books, but her world is made of words, brutally honest, deeply human, and darkly hilarious. The show has even birthed the viral #FleabagEra on the internet, where readers curate booklists filled with the kind of titles you just know Fleabag would read. ● The Holy Bible (yes, seriously) ● Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton ● The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion ● My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh ● On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong 'A mind needs books like a sword needs a whetstone,' said Tyrion Lannister in the Game of Thrones series. For Tyrion the question was this: how do you survive in a world that mocks your appearance and underestimates your worth? You outthink them. Every clever comeback, every political maneuver, every escape from death was the result of a brain sculpted by books. Tyrion knew he would never win battles with brute strength only with learned wisdom. So if you have ever felt out of place, overlooked, or underestimated, maybe it is time to flip the script and play the game on your own terms. Begin by reading. Just like Tyrion did. ● Meditations by Marcus Aurelius ● The Prince by Niccolò Machiavelli ● The Art of War by Sun Tzu ● A Game of Thrones by George RR Martin (because he knows) (The writer is social media strategist with

Love Island 2025: A Ratings Revival The 2025 season of Love Island marked a significant turnaround for the ITV2 franchise, rejuvenating its mass appeal after a lukewarm response to previous seasons. The latest installment not only captured the attention of British audiences but also charted new territory by introducing the show's first-ever American contestant. The American contestant, initially considered a wildcard entry, silenced critics and emerged as the people's favourite. One viewer summed up the sentiment on social media: 'Never in a million years did I think I'd root for an American bombshell on Love Island UK, let alone have her win — but here we are. Toni the people's princess, fr', as mentioned in a report by Capital Xtra. Sources close to the production , as per the above mentioned report revealed that Laites is in preliminary talks for a new fly-on-the-wall style reality series that would center on her luxurious Las Vegas lifestyle, an environment many UK and US viewers find both aspirational and exotic. The potential show is said to explore her daily life, social circle, and new fame post- Love Island. Live Events Strong Female Presence: Public Picks a Side All three finalists, Toni Laites, Shakira Khan, and Yasmin Pettet, garnered substantial fan support throughout the season. Viewers appeared to divide themselves along clear lines, with the trio emerging as clear favorites over the other camp of contestants, including Meg Moore, who was eliminated before the final. The loyalty shown by fans has been instrumental in fueling conversations around a reality series that might include not just Toni, but Shakira, Yasmin, and Toni's winning partner Cach as well. While ITV has yet to make an official announcement, insiders suggest that a format akin to The Only Way is Essex or Made in Chelsea could be explored, with a distinctly transatlantic flair. Mum's the Word: TikTok Star Lipglossles to Join? Toni's mother, who uses the moniker 'Lipglossles' on TikTok, made a memorable appearance during the show's traditional family day and left a lasting impression. Reports indicate that she could also feature prominently in the proposed spinoff. Her social media presence and authentic charisma reportedly align well with the unscripted format ITV is considering. The inclusion of Lipglossles is being interpreted by fans as a clever move to blend family dynamics with glamour—offering viewers a holistic view of Toni's life beyond the villa. 'Toni with her own show?? She's that girl and deserves every bit of it. Can't wait to watch!' exclaimed one fan on social media. Another added, 'I'm seated for every episode. I want to see her relocate from the US to the UK and watch her relationship with Cach get stronger.' High Stakes for ITV and the Franchise Love Island has long served as a launching pad for influencer careers and brand endorsements, but a successful reality spinoff could signal a new era for the franchise. This kind of post-show content would allow producers to retain viewer engagement beyond the summer broadcast window, while also allowing stars to build extended personal narratives. The idea of a Las Vegas-centric reality series featuring British and American talent comes at a time when ITV is actively seeking to diversify its streaming and linear content. The network has struggled to replicate the viral success of earlier Love Island seasons but appears poised to reclaim its footing through strategic expansion of its talent base and programming formats. A Lifestyle Worth Broadcasting? The backdrop of Toni's previous employment, a luxurious Las Vegas cabana club, is expected to serve as a foundational theme for the new series. With its sun-soaked pools, bottle service, and party-centric culture, Las Vegas offers a stark contrast to traditional British settings and opens the door to a variety of storylines. More than just drama and relationships, the potential show may explore Toni's reinvention as she navigates her newfound fame, manages long-distance dynamics with Cach, and possibly relocates to the UK. Producers are said to be watching closely for fan response to gauge how best to shape the format and cast. What's Next for Love Island Alums? While details remain under wraps, it's clear that ITV sees lasting value in several of this season's cast members. The combination of cross-cultural appeal, existing fan base, and high streaming numbers makes a strong case for developing a follow-up show. As of now, conversations remain in early stages, and no formal release window has been confirmed. However, if the social media buzz and early reports are any indication, viewers may soon find themselves tuning in to a new series that charts the post-villa journey of Toni and her fellow finalists. FAQs When did Love Island Season 12 conclude? Season 12 of Love Island UK recently wrapped up and has been one of the most-watched editions in recent memory, sparking discussions about future spin-off shows. Who won Love Island Season 12 in 2025? Toni Laites and Cach Mercer were crowned winners of Love Island Season 12 , receiving the most public votes in the finale.
