USA TODAY Sports ranks Florida basketball in their Final Four reseed
USA TODAY Sports has placed the Florida Gators at No. 2 in their Final Four reseed, a power ranking of the teams remaining in March Madness.
The reseeding comes after the Gators' gritty, come-from-behind victory against the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight.
Walter Clayton Jr., the team's leading scorer and emotional anchor, has consistently delivered in key moments, but it's been Florida's depth that's kept them going.
For instance, Thomas Haugh is a big part why the Gators are still dancing in the NCAA Tournament. If it wasn't for his clutch offensive rebound and three-point shot seconds later, who knows if Florida would've been able to pull off the comeback.
Florida now prepares to face the Auburn Tigers in what's expected to be a tough and physical matchup. But the Gators did beat them at Auburn's home court the last time the two teams faced off.
With Clayton leading the charge and contributions coming from all over the rotation, the Gators are poised to make a serious bid for a national title in the days to come.
USA TODAY Sports writer Eddie Timanus had this to say about the Florida Gators basketball team.
What USA TODAY Sports said about the Gators
"With that said, however, the Gators are still the best team from the deepest conference, and their knack for finding ways to win tight contests can't be overlooked. Walter Clayton Jr. has demonstrated takeover ability against both Connecticut and Texas Tech when the Gators seemed to be wobbling," Timanus notes.
"But he'll almost certainly need help as the level of competition amps up even more. A performance like Thomas Haugh's 20 points off the bench against Texas Tech was encouraging. There are several others capable of shouldering the load, and a deep frontcourt should be capable of slowing Auburn in the semifinal."

Panthers power play production could be an edge in tight Stanley Cup Final against the Oilers

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Staying out of the penalty box is a good place to start for all the players involved in the Stanley Cup Final. After talking all week about being more disciplined, the Edmonton Oilers were whistled for high-sticking a couple of times and tripping once in the first 16 minutes of Game 4 on Thursday night. Naturally, Matthew Tkachuk scored twice for Florida Panthers, and then a slashing call put the Oilers on the power play and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' goal sparked their comeback that tied the series. 'It's a good series,' Tkachuk said. 'Special teams, both teams' power play seemed to be clicking.' Florida is clicking at a higher rate at 33%, going 7 of 21 with the man advantage, compared with 20% on 4 of 20 for Edmonton. In a final knotted 2-2 that has often been as tight as it can be with three games already decided in overtime, the Panthers' power play production has the potential to be a difference-maker. Until Tkachuk broke through, it had been the second unit of Brad Marchand, Sam Bennett, Carter Verhaeghe, Evan Rodrigues and Nate Schmidt doing most of the damage. 'We're building a lot of chemistry playing together,' Verhaeghe said. 'We have so many great players on the unit. Both units have been pretty good. I mean, we just want to move the puck right and get pucks to the net.' The Panthers have five power play goals over the past two games and have scored at least one every night in the final. The Oilers have also cracked Sergei Bobrovsky at least once on the power play each game. Nugent-Hopkins scoring Thursday night could be a sign Connor McDavid and Co. are revving up against what has been a fairly effective Florida penalty kill. Coach Paul Maurice believes that task has gone 'reasonably well.' 'I think they're still going to generate some action,' Maurice said Friday before flying across North America. 'I think the even strength chances are pretty tight through four games.' Ekholm's block Tkachuk almost completed a hat trick in Game 4, and it could have changed the course of the entire series. With the score tied at 3-all late in the second period, he had the puck with a wide-open net to shoot at. Edmonton defenseman Mattias Ekholm got his right skate and leg in front of Tkachuk's shot just in time. 'I didn't even know that the net was empty or anything — I was just in the moment trying to get as big as possible,' Ekholm said. 'It ended up hitting me. It was obviously a big block at the time. I haven't thought too much more about it. It was a block, and sometimes you need those.' Better Barkov? Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov picked up his first two points of the series in Game 4 with assists on Tkachuk's power-play goals. He has none at even strength. Some of that could be connected to how much energy Barkov — a three-time Selke Trophy winner as the NHL's best defensive forward — is expending trying to keep McDavid's line and also Leon Draisaitl from scoring. He does not want to use that as an excuse. 'It's tough to say,' Barkov said. 'You need to know, those two guys, where they are on the ice. Of course you're trying to have your head on a swivel, but I think I could be better, for sure.' ___ AP NHL playoffs: and

Where Billy Napier ranks among current college football head coaches as players

Where Billy Napier ranks among current college football head coaches as players Not every head coach at the college football level participated in the gridiron grind before donning the clipboard and headphones on the sidelines, but a strong majority rose through the ranks the hard way. Even then, while most share the experience of competing on the field with their fellow peers, not everyone had the same experience during their playing days. Recently, ESPN's Adam Rittenberg took a stab at ranking all of the FBS head coaches according to their careers as college football players — at least, the ones who played. His list spotlights what coaches did as college players, not necessarily at the pro level, although their entire careers are considered. Among those mentioned was Florida Gators coach Billy Napier, who landed among the "small-school superstars" tier along with eight others. "After playing high school football for his father, Bill, Napier went to Furman, where he twice earned All-Southern Conference honors as a quarterback," Rittenberg begins. "Furman won two league titles and reached the Division I-AA (now FCS) national championship game in Napier's junior season of 2001. Napier set team records as a senior with 64.8% completions and 2,475 yards and was a finalist for the Walter Payton Award, given to the top FCS player." Former Gators skipper Dan Mullen — who is now on the sidelines for the UNLV Rebels — is also mentioned among the 22 "small-school standouts" for his collegiate efforts. "Mullen played tight end for Ursinus College, a Division III program in Pennsylvania, where he earned two letters and was a first-team All-Centennial Conference selection as a senior in 1993," Rittenberg notes. Neither head coach made it into the top 30 list, which was headlined by none other than Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce attend Game 4 of NHL Stanley Cup Final in Florida

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce were all smiles as they attended Game 4 of the NHL Stanley Cup Final on Thursday night. The duo stepped out for the event, which saw the Edmonton Oilers take on the Florida Panthers in Sunrise, Florida. The Oilers beat the Panthers in a 5-4 overtime win, evening the series 2-2. During one exciting moment, Swift turned to Kelce and could clearly be seen on video saying, "My heart was like..." as she mimed it pounding out of her chest. It's not clear which team the two were actually rooting for. At one point during the game, the announcer quoted the lyrics of Swift's song "Florida!!!" and called Swift "basically the Wayne Gretzky of music right now." Gretzky, nicknamed "The Great One," is considered the G.O.A.T. of hockey players. As previously reported, Swift has been staying with Kelce in Florida while he trains for the upcoming NFL season. A source told People that the singer is looking forward to the upcoming season, because "for the first full season since they started dating, she's not juggling a packed tour schedule." The source added, "This fall will be completely different. It's the first season where she's not constantly flying back and forth or working around an entire touring calendar." "Taylor plans to be at as many of his games as possible," the source said. "They've both had such demanding schedules for so long, so having this stretch of time where things aren't quite as chaotic feels like a welcome change."
