'Final Destination: Bloodlines' trailer reveals origin of death's curse as family secrets trigger deadly new chapter

Express Tribune26-03-2025

Warner Bros. has unveiled the chilling full-length trailer for Final Destination: Bloodlines, the sixth entry in the long-running horror franchise.
The film introduces a college student tormented by a recurring nightmare foretelling the violent demise of her family. She returns home in search of the one person who might be able to stop it—her grandmother Iris, whose dark past may hold the key to it all.
The trailer opens with a harrowing death sequence, featuring the franchise's signature Rube Goldberg-style chain reaction. It then shifts focus to Iris, who reveals that she once had a premonition that saved lives never meant to survive. As a result, Death is now seeking to correct what went wrong, targeting her descendants who were 'never supposed to exist.'
Final Destination: Bloodlines blends newcomers including Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, and Brec Bassinger, with a familiar face—Tony Todd returns as William Bludworth, marking his final appearance before his passing in 2024. His haunting words close the trailer: 'Only by embracing death will it pass you by… good luck.'
Unlike previous entries, this instalment acts partially as a prequel, delving into the franchise's roots. The connection to earlier films is reinforced when Iris gives her granddaughter a book chronicling previous disasters, including the infamous logging truck crash from Final Destination 2.
Final Destination: Bloodlines is set to release in theatres on May 16.

Benny Blanco dreaming of kids with Selena Gomez amid health challenges

Music producer Benny Blanco has opened up about his desire to start a family with partner Selena Gomez, even as the couple keeps wedding plans private. In a recent InStyle interview, Blanco said he's 'dreaming and praying' about becoming a father. 'I love kids; I love being an uncle. I want to be a dad, though, God willing,' he shared. Gomez has previously spoken candidly about her challenges with motherhood. In a Vanity Fair interview, she revealed she is unable to carry children due to medical complications stemming from lupus and bipolar disorder. Pregnancy could pose serious risks to her health and the baby's. 'That was something I had to grieve for a while,' she admitted. Still, Gomez remains determined to become a mother, considering adoption and surrogacy as meaningful alternatives. Her own mother was adopted, a fact she's called a 'blessing' in their family. Despite medical challenges, the couple is building a future together—starting with their $35 million Spanish-style estate in Beverly Hills, which Blanco has been filling with 'creativity and heart.' 'I love making a house my own,' he said, emphasizing the importance of comfort and authenticity. Blanco also reflected on his emotional growth, shaped by his upbringing with a single mother. He credits her with helping him understand women's emotional needs. 'A woman will tell you exactly what she needs,' he noted, emphasizing the value of listening and mutual respect. Reflecting on past relationships, he added that learning through trial and error taught him what not to do—and ultimately led him to Gomez.

Should Spider-Man Be Selling Beer? Tom Holland's Non-Alcoholic Venture Raises Eyebrows

Tom Holland, known for his iconic role as Spider-Man, has ventured into the world of non-alcoholic beer with his brand Bero. His latest release, Double Tasty, is a West Coast-style IPA, offering a bold, hoppy flavor that mimics its alcoholic counterpart without the buzz. The product arrives just a day after Holland's 29th birthday and is a personal project close to his heart, reflecting his journey into sobriety and desire to create a premium drink that fits seamlessly into any lifestyle. But for a globally adored superhero, is a non-alcoholic beer the most fitting product to launch? After all, superheroes—both in the comics and on the big screen—embody strength, health, and vitality. Holland himself has opened up about his personal battle with sobriety and how he used beer as a way to feel included in social settings. Yet, in a world where superheroes often promote healthier lifestyles, one might wonder why he didn't choose to endorse something more fitting for the health-conscious crowd—say, a protein bar or an energy drink, something that aligns with the fitness trends often seen among athletes and celebrities. Why Beer, Tom? Perhaps it's Holland's own personal connection to beer that influenced his decision, as he recalls how difficult his first year sober was and how Bero could have made his journey easier. Yet, despite the personal connection, there's a larger question about the optics of a superhero launching a non-alcoholic beer. In a world obsessed with health, wellness, and fitness, could Holland have had a bigger impact with a product that promotes physical strength and well-being rather than something associated with social indulgence? A superhero-themed protein shake or bar, for instance, would likely speak more directly to his fans—young, active, and inspired by the superheroes they look up to. A Superhero Identity at Odds with the Brew? On the one hand, launching an alcohol-free beer brand might be seen as a positive move toward offering something inclusive for those who want to join the beer-drinking experience without the risk of intoxication. Holland's venture could normalize sober living, reflecting a more responsible approach to socializing. But on the other hand, there's a chance that a superhero's endorsement of any kind of beer, even one without alcohol, might send the wrong message to younger, impressionable fans. By opting for a brew over, say, a protein product, Holland may have missed an opportunity to align his business ventures with the healthier, more inspiring values that fans associate with Spider-Man. After all, superheroes are often paragons of physical health—launching a product that promotes fitness could have reinforced that image, rather than associating him with alcohol, even if it is non-alcoholic. In the end, Bero's Double Tasty could serve as a thoughtful venture for those looking for a non-alcoholic alternative to traditional beer. But in the realm of superhero brands, perhaps the real question is: should a superhero be selling beer at all?

'Lilo & Stitch' smashes Memorial Day records

Theatres across North America are enjoying an exceptional Memorial Day holiday weekend, with two new much-anticipated blockbusters bringing in an estimated box office totaling well over $250 million, analysts said on Sunday. Disney's family-friendly Lilo & Stitch earned an estimated $183 million, a record for the four-day Memorial Day weekend, according to Variety. The film has already taken in an additional $158 million internationally, industry tracker Exhibitor Relations reported. "This is a sensational opening," placing the film among the top three Disney live-action remakes, said David A Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research. Maia Kealoha (as Lilo), Hannah Waddingham, Courtney B Vance and Zach Galifianakis star, while Chris Sanders again provides the voice of the chaos-creating blue alien Stitch. Paramount's new spy thriller Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning - the latest, and ostensibly last, in the hugely successful Tom Cruise series - opened to an estimated $77 million in ticket sales in the United States and Canada. Gross called that an "excellent" opening, probably the best ever in the series. Ticket sales, however, need to make up for a huge production budget estimated at $400 million. In third, dropping two spots from its opening last weekend, was Warner Bros and New Line's horror film Final Destination: Bloodlines, at $24.5 million. Kaitlyn Santa Juana stars as a young woman who has to deal with the grisly aftereffects of her grandmother having long ago cheated Death. Fourth place went to Disney and Marvel's superhero film Thunderbolts, at $11.6 million. Florence Pugh and Sebastian Stan lead a motley bunch of misfits and antiheroes. The film has taken in more than $350 million worldwide. And in fifth was Ryan Coogler's vampire thriller Sinners, raking in $11.2 million. The film has now earned $259 million domestically to become one of the highest-grossing R-rated films ever, according to Variety. afp
