Academics release draft of People's Education Policy as an alternative to NEP 2020
A group of academicians have come together and formulated an alternative to the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020. The group has called it People's Education Policy (PEP) 2025, which, they said, would be finalised after nation-wide discussions.
K. Yogarajan, secretary of the Tamil Nadu chapter of All India Save Education Committee, said the PEP proposes secular, scientific, democratic, and universal education, as against 'communal, undemocratic, anti-scientific, privatised, and commercialised education' that NEP 2020 represents.
PEP proposes at least 10% allocation in the Union budget and 25% allocation for education in the State budget. It also proposes to bring education to the State list and amending the Constitution to that effect.
The PEP is in favour of 10+2+3 structure and school education for students in the age group of 3 to 17 years. it also suggests classroom teaching instead of online and hybrid mode, and proposes to dispense with CUET and NEET. It calls for appointing permanent teachers instead of guest and contractual teachers. It opposes Indian Knowledge System, which it says is a design to distort history and inculcate pseudoscience.
Ramu Manivannan, former Political Science professor at the University of Madras, said it is important to ensure that universities are run effectively and faculty appointments are made when need arises.
Mr. Manivannan released the first copy of the draft of PEP and it was received by S. Bakthavatchalam, an office bearer of the Tamil Nadu High and Higher Secondary Graduate Teachers Association.

3.69 crore houses for rural poor sanctioned under PMAY scheme: Minister
Panaji: Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Pemmasani Chandrasekhar on Friday said a total of 3.69 crore houses have been sanctioned and 2.76 crore homes have been completed so far under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin "giving a concrete form to the dreams of the rural poor". "With an ambitious goal of 4.95 crore houses by March 2029, we have already made remarkable strides. Each number represents a family sleeping peacefully, children studying in safety, and elders ageing with dignity," the minister remarked. Addressing the regional rural workshop under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin here, the Minister said: "When our villages prosper, Bharat prospers. Under PM Narendra Modi's transformative vision, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana embodies the true spirit of Antyodaya—uplifting the last person in the queue. A Viksit Bharat (developed India) is not possible without empowered rural communities." The Minister said the government is converging PMAY-G with flagship schemes like Ujjwala, Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat to create holistic habitats, not just homes. This is ensuring that every rural family has access to clean water, sanitation, and clean cooking fuel. The government's vision extends far beyond bricks and mortar. Through mason training programmes, the government is creating an army of skilled artisans in rural India. This is economic empowerment in its purest form - creating jobs, building expertise, and ensuring that rural youth become the authors of their own prosperity, he said. "We are exploring Green Housing, where environmental consciousness blends with affordable construction, giving rise to homes that care not just for families, but for the planet itself. Embracing Artificial Intelligence in beneficiary selection, where technology becomes the great equaliser—ensuring that it is merit, not influence, that determines who receives support," the minister observed. He further stated that the government was aligning its policy with the Sustainable Development Goals, connecting local aspirations to global responsibilities, so that every village contributes to the progress of humanity. It was also reimagining microfinance and turning it into a powerful bridge to link rural aspirations with real opportunities, "empowering people to turn dreams into achievements". 'As we step into the Amrit Kaal, it is no longer just about numbers—it's about quality, sustainability, and long-term impact. By embracing innovation, data, and inclusive financing, we can shape rural development. Every family that moves from a kutcha to a pucca house with effective convergence is taking a step toward national transformation,' he added. CLAT-PG answer key row: Delhi HC grants relief to candidates, asks to declare results soon
New Delhi, The Delhi High Court on Friday granted relief to CLAT-PG candidates over alleged discrepancies in the answer key and directed the consortium of NLUs to declare results soon. A bench of Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela's decision came over the plea of students in relation to a couple of answers in the key. The court, however, rejected the objection with respect to the declared answer to a third question, and asked the consortium of national law universities to accordingly award marks to the candidates. The court passed the order while deciding three pleas seeking rectification of errors in the final answer key of the Common Law Admission Test -PG 2025. The bench's verdict highlighted the issue of a high fee of ₹1,000 charged by the consortium per question for raising the objection to the provisional answer key, observing there ought to be a "fine balance" between the concerns of the candidates and the institutions. While comparing the fee charged for objected questions by other organisations, the fees sought by the consortium "appeared to be excessive and disproportionate" but the consortium's concern that it was required to keep frivolous individuals and coaching institutes at bay also did not appear to be "fanciful or imaginative", it added. The bench, however, expected the consortium to take heed of its observations and take appropriate steps to "avoid such excessive fee in the next examinations". "It may be advisable for the consortium to place this issue before the committee headed by Justice G. Raghuram for his valuable opinion which may be adhered to by it," the bench said. The court ruled on the correctness of the answers in the answer key after considering each question and the submissions made by the counsel for the petitioners and the consortium. CLAT determines admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate law courses in national law universities in the country. CLAT PG 2025 was held on December 1, 2024. Multiple pleas were filed in different high courts alleging several questions in the exam were wrong. On February 6, the Supreme Court transferred all the petitions over the issue to the Delhi High Court for a "consistent adjudication". The top court passed the direction on the transfer petitions of the consortium.
