All eligible applications seeking monthly cash assistance will be considered, says Minister
Speaking at the inauguration of the third phase of Makkaludan Muthalvar scheme at Thirumanur here, he said the monthly cash assistance scheme had received an overwhelming response from women. Those who were yet to get assistance could submit their applications or petitions at the camps of Makkaludan Muthalvar scheme. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had issued orders to take steps to provide cash assistance to all eligible women and they should utilise the opportunity well.
Mr. Sivasankar said the State government was at the forefront in implementing welfare schemes. Many State governments had taken cue from Tamil Nadu in implementing various schemes in their States. Free bus travel for women was among the schemes incorporated by other States.
Minister for Labour Welfare and Skill Development C.V. Ganesan, MLA K. Chinnappa, Collector P. Rathinasamy and senior officials participated.
Mr. Sivasankar and Mr. Ganesan distributed welfare assistance worth ₹12.96 crore to 2,204 beneficiaries at the camp. A large number of people from Venmankondan, Karuppilakattala, Thirumanur, Annimangalam and Keezhakavattankurichi participated.

CUDDALORE: Tamil Nadu Transport Minister SS Sivasankar on Thursday said that 3,200 new employees would be appointed to the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) in August as part of efforts to restructure the department and improve services. Speaking to reporters outside the Cuddalore court, Minister Sivasankar said, 'The government does not have Rs 3,000 crore readily-available to settle pending dues. However, the Chief Minister is addressing past issues step-by-step. So far, 4,800 new buses have been brought into service and 680 employees have been recruited. In August, another 3,200 will be appointed. Through these measures, the transport department is being restructured, and pending dues are also being gradually cleared.' He said that steps are being taken to replace old buses and clear long-pending retirement benefits. 'The union government has not provided any funds for the state transport department. Only the Tamil Nadu government is allocating resources,' he added. The minister noted that due to increased demand during festivals, private buses are being operated on a contract basis. 'Earlier, around one lakh passengers booked tickets each month. Now it has increased to two lakh. Unreserved passenger numbers have also gone up. To avoid disruption in district-level services, private buses are being deployed under contract. This model does not result in losses but brings profit to the government,' he said. Minister Sivasankar had appeared in court in connection with a case registered against him and 36 others in 2015. The case relates to a protest held on February 4, 2015, in Neivasal near the Cuddalore - Ariyalur border, during his tenure as Kunnam MLA, against sand mining.

Tamil Nadu will continue to spread the glory of Rajendra Chola, says Minister
Terming King Rajendra Chola as a pride of Tamil civilization, Minister for Finance, Environment and Climate Change Thangam Thennarasu on Wednesday said that the State government would continue to spread the king's unparalleled glory and history world over. Inaugurating the 'Aadi Thiruvathirai' festival to mark the birth anniversary of Rajendra Chola at the Brihadeeswara Temple at Gangaikondachozhapuram, Mr. Thennarasu said that during his reign, the Chola empire reached its peak. He extended the empire's reach via trade and conquest across the Indian Ocean. No other emperor in the country had tasted success like Rajendra Chola in extending territory of the dynasty beyond South Asia. His contribution to Dravidian architecture, culture, and Tamil civilization was immense. The State government had been celebrating his birthday every year to recollect his achievements. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who was in the forefront in spreading the glorious past of Rajendra Chola, had allocated ₹22 crore for displaying the items found in the excavation work. He had allocated ₹12 crore for the development of Cholagangam Lake. The State government would continue to take steps to spread the king's victories not only in India but also world over. TNSTC Coimbatore replaces 255 old buses with new ones sanctioned for 2024-25
: The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Coimbatore Limited, has replaced 255 old buses with new ones that were sanctioned for the 2024-25 fiscal. In keeping with the announcement made in the Assembly by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, the TNSTC Coimbatore Ltd., was sanctioned 321 buses for 2024-25. Of this, 155 buses were replaced with new ones initially and put to use. The rest of the over 60 buses pertaining to 2024-25 are expected to be sanctioned shortly, official sources said. The replacement follows a notification issued by the MoRTH during 2023 for scrapping government vehicles older than 15 years. The notification warranted de-registration and scrapping of all vehicles owned by the Central and State governments, including buses owned by public transport corporations and public sector undertakings. In a recent event in Coimbatore, Transport Minister S.S. Sivasankar flagged off 100 new buses for replacement of old ones by the TNSTC Coimbatore Ltd. Of this, the Corporation is utilising 94 buses for Vidiyal Payanam Scheme entailing free travel by women. The remaining buses are being operated in sub-urban routes. In the hilly parts of Ooty, Valparai, Thalavadi and Anaikatti, 124 buses are utilised for 'Vidiyal Payanam' scheme. Women travelling for less than 35 km are availing themselves of the utility of the scheme in the buses operated in sub-urban areas. For 2025-26, the State government has sanctioned 252 buses for TNSTC Coimbatore Ltd. The modernisation plan initiated a year ago envisaged replacement of 10,020 buses in all the eight transport corporations across the State, with e-buses, low-floor coaches, and refurbished and retrofitted buses integrated with LNG and CNG fuel technologies.
