Faiq, who has lived in the area for 15 years alongside his family, is said to have maintained a low profile, focusing primarily on his job at a local fast-food outlet. His arrest has sent ripples through the close-knit community, where many are grappling with disbelief over the allegations, The Times of India reported on July 25.
Residents of Farash Khana have expressed shock at the news of Faiq's arrest. Neighbour Mohammed Shamim, who runs a local book-binding shop, recalled Faiq as a humble and quiet individual, stating, 'His family has been living here for years. We can't believe he had links with terrorists.'
Other neighbours echoed similar sentiments, noting that Faiq rarely interacted beyond casual greetings, ToI's report (by Khushi Bhuta) said. Imran, another local resident, told the reporter that Faiq was often seen commuting to work, rarely lingering in the area.
Live Events
Further testimony came from Mohammed Fukran, the owner of a nearby medical store, who recounted a recent friendly conversation with Faiq during a prayer meeting.
'He was someone who would mind his business and seemed to have a good nature,' Fukran shared, clearly disturbed by the developments surrounding his acquaintance.
Allegations and Investigations: The Rise of Digital Radicalisation
The
Gujarat ATS
has made serious allegations against Faiq, claiming he was in contact with multiple Pakistani Instagram accounts that purportedly provided him with jihadi materials. In the course of the investigation, authorities reportedly seized radical literature and a video showing Faiq brandishing a sword while chanting religious slogans.

'Digital India without any digital rights': Viral Reddit post questions terms on Income tax portal
A Reddit post by an Indian taxpayer has gone viral for calling out the official e-Pay Tax portal of the Government of India, not for a technical glitch, but for what the user described as 'absolutely insane' Terms & Conditions. Posted by FearlessTransition41 on the r/india subreddit, the post has resonated with thousands of users who say they've faced similar issues when trying to do something as routine and necessary as paying their taxes online. The user wrote, 'Just tried paying income tax… and the T&Cs are absolutely insane' The user, who was simply trying to pay their income tax online, decided to scroll through the platform's terms and conditions, and was left shocked by what they read. 'I was paying my direct income tax through the Indian government's official e-Pay Tax portal, and out of curiosity, I actually read the Terms & Conditions. What I found is straight-up dystopian:' They went on to highlight six clauses that sparked widespread concern: No guarantee of refund if payment fails 'If money is deducted but the payment fails, tough luck. No guarantee of refund, no immediate resolution. You just have to 'wait and check back later.' If that doesn't work, contact your bank. The portal takes zero responsibility," the user wrote. No refunds, no chargebacks 'Even if their system screws up or you're charged twice, they won't reverse it. You just have to claim it in your ITR and hope it works out," the user claimed in their post. No data protection guarantee 'Not liable if your personal or financial data gets hacked. They literally state they don't guarantee your information won't be intercepted by third parties. Imagine that, a government tax portal saying that,' it read. Platform not responsible if it doesn't work 'They don't promise the system will even work. If it's buggy or fails during payment, that's your problem,' the user claimed. They can change terms anytime, silently 'They can change these terms ANYTIME without telling you. So even if they add more draconian rules, you're automatically bound by them the moment you use the service," the post read. Legal jurisdiction limited to Delhi courts 'All legal disputes must go through Delhi courts. So if you're in Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, or anywhere else, prepare to lawyer up in Delhi,' the user wrote. The Reddit user went on to say, 'Taxpayers are expected to be perfect… but the system isn't' The Reddit post ends with a larger question many are now echoing across social media: 'This feels like Digital India without any digital rights. Taxpayers are expected to be perfect and compliant, but the system itself doesn't offer even basic consumer protection. Why are citizens treated like this for doing their civic duty?' 'Isn't it fair to expect transparency, accountability, and at least some level of protection when using official services?' The post has sparked an outpouring of reactions online, with users slamming the lack of consumer rights, data protection, and transparency. 'I really wonder what was going in the mind of the person behind these T&Cs,' a user commented. 'Yes, them stating data breaches liability is with the taxpayer is straight up infringement of Fundamental right to privacy and Data protection laws,' another user wrote. 'They're probably making these draconian rules so that when they rain down hell on someone, the person has to 'settle' with them,' the third user remarked. 'This is a lawsuit waiting to happen,' the fourth wrote. 'It's just like rocket science,' the fifth user wrote.

Gujarat ATS tracks Shama Parveen's push for Ghazwa-e-Hind via online jihad propaganda
AHMEDABAD: In a chilling development linked to the 23 July terror arrests, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has revealed that Shama Parveen, the alleged Al-Qaeda handler arrested from Bengaluru on 30 July, was actively pushing provocative content online. Her posts allegedly glorified Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir and called for an armed uprising against Hindus and Indian democracy. The ATS also found disturbing videos allegedly targeting the RSS, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the United States, alongside visuals of demolitions in Gujarat. Parveen is currently in 14-day custody as the investigation deepens. The ATS probe, which began with the 23 July arrest of four radicalised men from Ahmedabad, Modasa, Delhi, and Noida, has now zeroed in on Shama Parveen, allegedly the digital handler of the module. Originally from Jharkhand and residing in Bengaluru's Hebbal area with her brother, Parveen had been operating multiple social media handles to allegedly peddle Al-Qaeda's extremist narrative. Through both encrypted platforms and open posts under aliases such as Strangers of the Nation, she allegedly praised Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir, called for an armed revolution against Hindus, and promoted the Ghazwa-e-Hind ideology, a radical dream of Islamic conquest of India.

Uttar Pradesh's Silent Revolution: Women Lead The Workforce Surge
Last Updated: Since Yogi Adityanath took office, the female labour force participation rate in Uttar Pradesh has surged from a dismal 14 per cent to 36 per cent Between 2017 and 2024, a silent revolution has been taking place in India's largest and most populous state. A movement that has not registered amidst the raucous headlines that emerge from Uttar Pradesh. It is the silent revolution of more women entering the workforce. In these intervening years, since Yogi Adityanath took office, the female labour force participation rate (FLFPR) has surged from a dismal 14 per cent to 36 per cent. While it's still below the national average of 45 per cent, it is nonetheless a dramatic breakthrough and is expected to continue to rise, powering the $1 trillion economy goal set by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Index, a key barometer that tracks these figures, says that a sustained policy effort under CM Yogi Adityanath, which has placed women at the centre of government policy priorities, has made the difference. When CM Yogi took office in 2017, he inherited a legacy of goondaism in the streets and perilous safety standards for women. So endemic was it to society that a bloody riot was sparked by an episode of sexual harassment prior to his taking office for the first time. Women's safety was not a case of isolated incidents, but circumstances that created powder keg situations in the state — not to mention the negative public sentiment that existed about the state and female safety. Very early in his tenure, Yogi made this a compelling priority, noting presciently that once female safety was established, only then would other empowerment schemes take root, including economic independence. It has been on the foundation of this policy to first ensure female safety that the FLFPR figures of female participation in the workforce have seen such a jump. The Mission Shakti Scheme introduced by CM Yogi ensured that safety went hand in hand with employment. For example, if the new regulations permitted women to work night shifts, then employers had to ensure that safety guidelines were followed. According to an official UP notification (2022) — all employers must obtain written consent from female workers before assigning them to the night shift. Furthermore, there should be a minimum of four women at the workplace, and facilities like pick-up and drop from the residence must be provided, as well as bathroom facilities and safe lighting in the workplace. The minutiae confirm how seriously women's safety is taken. Apart from employment opportunities, the government has also encouraged opportunities for self-employment and income generation. There are over 10 lakh self-help groups that engage more than 1 crore women in micro-enterprises. Fifty-three per cent of the registrations on the e-Shram portal are women, and they form 34.65 per cent of the state's construction workforce. There are numerous personal narratives that attest to these developments on the ground, like night-shift factories near Lucknow and Kanpur that have seen increasing female participation in production lines. In eastern Uttar Pradesh, which is seeing rapid infrastructure development, construction clusters are employing thousands of workers, and a sizeable number are women. However, it would be a mistake to view this development only through the lens of data points. This shift underlines a far more significant move: a change in social expectations and dynamics. Employment ensures greater mobility for women, and financial decision-making gives them agency. It is heartening to note that in Uttar Pradesh, these changes are being observed in semi-urban and rural areas. However, there are still challenges. While the increase in participation is heartening, it is still dominated by the unorganised sector and seasonal work — a circumstance prevalent nationwide. But Uttar Pradesh, by showing such a remarkable jump in participation and led by CM Yogi, is well poised to move into the next stage. While admittedly some of the conditions are sociological and need to be addressed by society and the family unit, the government's encouragement and support of female employment — and hence empowerment — is undeniable. With its large demographic advantage and area, the state, often referred to as a trouble spot in the past and a reflection of India's failure to realise its post-Independence promise, seems to finally be turning the tide. Powered by none other than the women of the state, taking one steady step at a time. Advaita Kala is a best-selling novelist and award-winning screenwriter.
