A MUM who was quoted a staggering £240 to make a 4th birthday cake for her daughter has been praised after showing how she did it herself for just £55.
Pamela explained that she wanted a Trolls-themed cake to mark her little girl Mila turning four, so got a quote from a professional baker near her.

But when it came back at £240, she decided to try and DIY it.
And the results were better than she could have ever imagined, as she took to TikTok to share the finished cake.
She used three cakes from Marks & Spencer to create the tiered design - the Under the Rainbow cake, the Rainbow layer cake and a Vanilla sprinkle gift cake.
She then stacked them on top of each other - with the rainbow-striped cake at the bottom, followed by the rainbow layer cake and topped off with the gift cake.
Pamela placed the finished cake on a pink board from Amazon, and added loads of Trolls decorations to complete it.
She added Trolls figurines from Temu, and used a gorgeous cake topper she'd had made from Etsy, which featured some of the film's famous characters and 'Mila, 4' on it.
"Oops I did it again! Thank you Marks and Spencer, I didn't have to pay £240 for the cake I was quoted," she captioned the TikTok snaps.
The comments section was immediately filled with people saying how impressed they were by Pamela's skills, and bombarding her with questions about her creation.
"How much did it come to?" one asked.
With Pamela replying: "£40ish for the cakes and about £15 for all the Trolls bits!"
The simple chocolate cake recipe using only TWO ingredients - it's sweet and you won't even need to put it in the oven
"Did you have to put anything in the cakes to support them?" another questioned.
"No - I didn't - I literally just piled them on top of each other - next time I think I will, it would be really simple to do!"
"LOVE THIS SUPERMUM!!" one wrote.
"This issss soo smart!!" another raved.
"Wow, this is a GAME changer! So impressive!" a third insisted.
"Omg that's amazing, well done you!" someone else said.

Bride's horror as she and husband turn up to empty wedding reception with no guests

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info A couple were left devastated when they walked into their wedding reception to find none of their guests had turned up. Kalina Marie and her husband, Shane, had been looking forward to what they thought would be the best day of their lives, surrounded by their nearest and dearest. But instead, they found themselves walking into an almost empty venue. The couple, from Oregon, entered the grand but eerily vacant reception hall with stoic expressions on their faces. The only sound filling the room was Miley Cyrus' "When I Look at You", its poignant lyrics "When my world is falling apart" echoing through the emptiness. Despite the disappointment, the couple, who were accompanied by their son, put on a brave face as they celebrated with the few guests who did show up. Marie shared the heartbreaking moment on TikTok, where it has since been viewed over seven million times, reports the Mirror. "This is our entrance to our Masquerade ball," she wrote in the caption. "The Masquerade ball that I have talked excessively about for the last 10 months. The same ball that I not only digitally invited over 75 people to. But also spent money to send 25 beautiful invitations out to. (Image: kalina_marie_23/Tiktok) "FIVE PEOPLE SHOWED UP! ! ! ! ! ! ! Like, are you kidding me! ? ! ? As you see in the video, we enter the venue. And no one is there. The invite said 1pm. My mum messaged me at 1:15pm that no one was there. My husband and I finally showed up at 2 o'clock, to five people, in a venue planned for 40." Maire revealed her devastation as she had envisioned entering a venue buzzing with cheers for the new couple, but instead faced a sea of vacant chairs. "All the wasted food and drinks," Maire bemoaned. "All the empty tables and chairs. Every moment of my reception changed to adapt." Nevertheless, she and her partner decided to make the most out of the situation, enjoying dances with their few guests and sharing their first dance as a married couple. (Image: kalina_marie_23/Tiktok) "It just makes me think, like, why? What did we do? Am I that bad of a person? What did my husband ever do to deserve any of this?" Maire pondered, struggling to understand why people failed to turn up. She expressed how distressing it was that so-called friends hadn't even reached out post-wedding to extend congratulations or explain their absence. This TikTok saga sparked a massive response, garnering thousands of comments, with many wondering if there might be another side to the story. "How can people RSVP 'yes' and then not show up?" one bewildered user queried. "Were they just invited to the reception and not the ceremony?" questioned another. In an update a week ago, the couple, who have been together for nine years and announced their wedding date in January, admitted they were "still a little embarrassed and still moving through the stages of grief," as well as "still dealing with anger. "I wouldn't even wish this on my worst enemy," Marie added.

Gordon Ramsay says there's one dish you should 'avoid ordering' at all costs

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info When you see a "dish of the day" promoted in a restaurant, it's rather appealing to consider trying it. These meals are often showcased as something unique and described so tantalisingly that customers feel an irresistible urge to order them. However, a marketing and psychology expert has revealed this can be somewhat misleading. Despite how good they might look, these offers may not always be the fantastic bargains they're made out to be. A TikTok marketing expert Basia suggests these "specials" are rarely as special as they suggest. Instead, she says they're typically just clever ways for chefs to ensure surplus ingredients get used before expiring. For example, there could be excess steak close to its sell-by date; savvy chefs might turn it into an enticing new offering to prevent waste. In her insightful TikTok video, Basia observed: "The daily special written in chalk? It's been 'today's special' for three weeks. But your brain sees handwriting and thinks: limited, fresh, rare.", reports the Mirror. Even celebrated chef Gordon Ramsay, with his Michelin-starred reputation, endorses this view and advises guests to be cautious of soup specials. He intimates they're usually just an amalgam of whatever leftovers exist, served again and again. Ramsay suggested in Town and Country magazine: "Ask what yesterday's soup du jour was before today's special. It may be the case that it's the soup du month." Similarly, prominent chef Anthony Bourdain warned his readers in Kitchen Confidential against choosing fish dishes on Mondays. Such a special at the beginning of the week might imply the fish has been sitting around since Friday, unsold. Fish markets usually close over the weekend, throwing into question Monday's seafood freshness. In her video, Basia unveils common restaurant psychological ploys to enlighten her audience on these covert tactics.... 1. The power of price perception. Join Edinburgh Live's Whatsapp Community here and get the latest news sentstraight to your messages. The "anchoring effect" is often utilised by eateries to shape patrons' value perception. By listing a steak for £50 alongside another for £35, it makes the second option seem like a steal. As Basia highlighted: "It's to make others look like a deal." 2. A never-empty tip jar. Social pressure is substantial even among unnamed diners. Basia points out: "They put cash in the tip jar before you even show up. So when you see it, your brain goes: 'Oh... tipping is what people do here." 3. The still or sparkling query. Upon being seated, you may be queried about your water preference, with tap water often feeling like an awkward choice and raising overall spend. Basia states: "[It's] not 'would you like water?' It skips the choice of whether, and jumps to which." 4. Menus sans currency icons. To soft-pedal the pricing, some establishments list prices sans the pound sign, leaving just digits that might appear less daunting. Clarifying this approach, Basia says: "Because '£24' screams money. But '24' just looks like a number."

Why Primark is great for looking expensive on a budget By Clemmie Feildsend, Fabulous Fashion Editor AS someone who's no stranger to grabbing a last-minute outfit from Primark for a night out, it's about time that celebrities started catching on too. For as long as I've been heading out, Primark has been my go-to for those 'I have nothing to wear' moments, rushing in at the last minute to find something perfect. And I'm definitely not alone - on any Friday or Saturday night, you'll find plenty of shoppers doing the same thing, right before closing time. But no matter what, Primark always delivers. Now, Rita Ora is leading the charge, showing that you can snag a designer-worthy look without spending a fortune at high-end stores. While Rita's not rushing in last minute for a red carpet outfit, she's proving you can achieve the same high-impact style for much less. Looking stunning in her tailored suit alongside her mum Vera, Rita fit right in among the other A-listers dripping in Prada, Dior, and Victoria Beckham - if anything, she looked even better than some of the guests at The Fashion Awards. With Myleene Klass and Roxy Horner already jumping on the Primark bandwagon, I'm sure more stars will be following suit soon enough. And that's not all, as these pants also feature a 'flattering slim fit that smoothes effortlessly over your figure.' Many will be pleased to know that sizes range from a 6 to a size 20 and these capri pants are now available to order on the website's new Click & Collect feature.
