Fed-up Edinburgh residents have had enough of 'party' Airbnb

One neighbour said: "People are going at all hours of the night and there is no real soundproofing despite the owner making modifications. It is ridiculous. He cannot get away with this."
Fed-up residents who live near an Airbnb that was suspended from the site because of problem parties, are furious that it's up for rent again.
The flat in the Faulburn area of Edinburgh is the only known short term let (STL) in the block.

After complaints from neighbours about loud guests wreaking havoc, the property was suspended from Airbnb site for 30 days.

They claimed youths were falling around the street, acting aggressively with one another and consuming alcohol at the property.
But they've been left livid after discovering the flat had been listed on Booking.com for several months before it reappeared on Airbnb in May 2025 when its suspension ended.

Resident and business owner, Fraser Ramsay, said he had to go down to the flat last Tuesday because he couldn't sleep with the noise.
He told Edinburgh Live: 'I told the man to keep the noise down or I would phone the police and he agreed to do so but then I heard him through the night again.
'It ruins your next day, I'm a business owner, and going out to working not having a good sleep isn't great. The owner of this Airbnb needs to sell up to someone who will live here long term or rent out the flat to a proper resident.

'At least if it is a permanent neighbour in the block we will be able to build relationships and have common courtesy. At the moment there is a security issue as well because these are strangers.
'People are going at all hours of the night and there is no real soundproofing despite the owner making modifications. It is ridiculous. He cannot get away with this.
'End of the day it is important this comes to an end. When it all kicks off it is horrible.'

Fraser has been in regular contact with Edinburgh Council to try to get answers as to how the owner was able to re-list the property for short term rentals on Airbnb. Correspondence between the home owner and the council stated a notice had been given to the STL landlord ordering them to cease operating the Airbnb unless they are able to lodge an appeal by late June 2025.
It is understood Airbnb suspended the property originally due to a party taking place at the property which is a breach of the platforms rules. However the property owner is understood to have carried out 'sound proofing' alterations to the property, which led to the ban being lifted.
Airbnb protocol states the company will potentially deactivate a property if they are contacted by a relevant local authority which believes the listing is operating illegally. It is understood the council have not made contact with Airbnb regarding the above property.

In a message seen by Edinburgh Live, council officials told Fraser: 'Just a quick e-mail to advise that enforcement notices were served on the property on Wednesday 21 May 2025. The property owner has until 25 June 2025 to appeal the notice.
'If he fails to do so by this date, then he would require to comply with its requirements i.e. cease the use of the property as a short term let by 25 July 2025.'
Councillor Joan Griffiths Planning Convener said: 'We have issued an enforcement notice requesting that the owner of this property ceases to use it as a short term let. They have until 24 July 2025 to comply with this notice unless they appeal.'

An Airbnb spokesperson said: 'We take feedback from local residents seriously, and this listing was temporarily suspended in line with our policies and the host has since taken steps to address this issue. Parties are banned on Airbnb and we may remove this listing if further policy violations occur.
'While issues on Airbnb are exceptionally rare, residents can contact us 24/7 via our neighbourhood support line and we investigate all reports received through this channel.'

Plans have been lodged with Edinburgh Council to erect signage for Hey Luck Bubble Tea: Bubble Tea & Street Food at 72 South Clerk Street. The shopfront sits between Polish market, Touch of Poland, and American-style eatery, Burger Drop Edinburgh, just a few blocks from the Meadows and Holyrood Park. Hey Luck Bubble Tea would be a first for Edinburgh, which already operates two outlets in Aberdeen on George Street and Merkland Road East. The establishments sell bubble tea as well as a colourful assortment of Asian street food such as jianbing, tokoyaki, and Korean fried chicken. The premises on South Clerk Street were previously host to Oma's African Cuisine, which dissolved in June of last year. Create Studio Architecture lodged the plans with Edinburgh Council to instal the new signage, which would feature colourful lettering and a cartoon girl drinking bubble tea in its logo. Hey Luck would join the ranks of Edinburgh's numerous bubble tea establishments, such as CUPP, which opened its second location on Leith Walk in March 2025.

Quick-thinking Edinburgh teen manages to rescue herself before getting help for pal

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Two Edinburgh teenagers have relived the terrifying moment they were hospitalised in a horror crash. Elise Kinnell, 17, and Holly Urquhart, 16, were passengers in a car on Linkfield Road, Musselburgh last Thursday when it suddenly did a 'full 360 spin' before ploughing into a parked tractor. Quick-thinking Elise managed to free herself from the mangled wreckage before flagging down passing motorists to help Holly who was unconscious in the back seat. Elise, from Niddrie, told Edinburgh Live: "I was out with two friends and we were coming along the road. As we got to the bend, I just went blank cause I knew something was going to happen. He went right into a fork thing, like a tractor, and my whole passenger door came in on me. The windscreen smashed on top of me and my window at the door came through. "It happened within minutes because of the way the car spun. he whole car just did a whole 360 and that was us. By luck the engine turned off itself but there was no airbags so I was unprotected. "By luck, I was still awake and aware of what had happened, so I took my seatbelt off and I flung myself out the driver's door. My friend was unconscious in the back. My Apple Watch had phoned the police, it was an SOS, because of the crash. I got out of the car, I was lying on the floor trying to wave people down as much as I could for help because I just didn't feel right." While Elise was bravely trying to flag down help, Holly was lying passed out in the back seat. A hero passer-by eventually her pulled out of the crumpled car before she regained consciousness. (Image: Supplied) Holly said: "All I remember is me waking up on the pavement. The guy was standing a bit back and there was police, I think, around me, telling me to just lie down and stay still, this and that, making sure I was alright. I did not know a crash had even happened. "My main priority was obviously - I'm not gonna lie to you, I was in like a lot of pain - but all I cared about was making sure my pal was alright." Both girls were taken to hospital for treatment but thankfully escaped without serious injuries. Elise suffered bruises while Holly underwent scans for a concussion. Sign up for Edinburgh Live newsletters for more headlines straight to your inbox Elise continued: "I was told I was very lucky that I didn't lose my life." (Image: Supplied) Now both girls are searching for the mystery man that helped them that night. Elise said: "I just want to thank the man that helped us because if it wasn't for him, I don't know what state would be in. He went and he actually got into the car. The driver's door was open and there was no glass on the driver's side so he was able to get my friend that was unconscious and help her out. "I waved so many people down and no one stopped for me and at that point I just didn't, I didn't know what was gonna happen. I thought I was going to die but the way the man came over to help, it just describes him as a person. He's been our lifesaver. If it wasn't for that man I'd have been dead. "I thought that I was about to take my last breath, but by luck I was able to survive and I don't know what would have happened if it wasn't for that man who pulled over in the middle of the road." Holly, from Prestonfield, said: "It means a lot because if he wasn't there, I don't know if I would be here. I got told if I wasn't pulled out, if the ambulance wasn't there and the police wasn't phoned, me and Elise would be dead." Cara, Holly's mum, also praised the mystery good samaritan for coming to her daughter's aid. She said: "I want to thank him a lot because it's any parents' worst nightmare to get a phone call to say their kids in a car crash, but to know that someone was actually there to stop and take the time to help and make sure that they're OK, not everyone's gonna do that." Holly and Elise are asking the man who helped them to reach out to them through Elise's sister's Facebook post, or by contacting Police Scotland. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'A 20-year-old man was charged in connection with crash which happened on Linkfield Road, Musselburgh. "The incident happened around 12.45am on Thursday, 29 May, 2025 and involved a vehicle and a tractor. "The man and two passengers in the vehicle were taken to hospital for treatment. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal." Join Edinburgh Live's Whatsapp Community here and get the latest news sent straight to your messages.
