The Best Fall Nail Colors Of 2025, According To Experts

Forbes4 days ago
While summer nail colors are dominated by happy brights and pale pastels, fall is the time to reach for more saturated shades. The best fall nail colors are sensual and moody—think warm chocolate browns, wine-inspired reds, unexpected earthy greens and color-shifting topcoats. As you transition your closet (and mindset) and ditch breezy linen for cozy cashmere, channeling autumnal vibes through your nail polish is easier than ever.
The best fall 2025 nail colors are refreshingly rich and saturated. These warm, earthy shades will ... More perfectly complement the seasonal transition. ILLUSTRATION: FORBES / PHOTO: RETAILERS
'While we always want summer to stick around, in general nail shades go darker in fall,' says Julie Kandalec, New York City-based manicurist and educator. 'We're seeing mauves and mochas, clay colors, deep greens and teals, bronzey metallics, cabernet reds, shades of white, and even micro French manicures.' Here are the best fall colors of 2025, whether you're looking for an updated neutral, jewel tone or out-of-the-box autumn iridescent.
'Earthy, clay colors—as if you were in an airplane over the American West and looking down—will be big this season,' says Kandalec, who notes that browns are a popular, sophisticated option. This chocolate brown hue, reminiscent of worn leather, is a refined choice for fall. Wear it with your favorite fall boot while warming your hands with a pecan oatmilk cortado. For an entire set of can't-go-wrong fall shades, we also like Lights Lacquer's Headed West collection.
Crisp fall days call for coziness, and comforting mauve shades are a quintessential autumn neutral. This versatile, vintage-inspired shade—which really reads more taupe and beige with the slightest hints of purple—is polished for work, and it pairs well with a slouchy bag, chunky sweater and basically anything in your closet for weekends, too. (Pro tip: If you liked a summer purple jelly, you may like this as a seasonal replacement.)
If you've gravitated toward navy in fall in the past, try this rich blue-meets-green shade as a stunning, less predictable alternative. The rich, elegant color is a little bit darker and more muted than peacock. Evelyn Lim, chief educator at Paintbox, likes saturated teal shades like this cruelty-free one as a short nail choice.
Greens with a hint of brown are trending this fall, according to Kandalec. If you're looking for a nuanced polish, this mysterious olive color evokes lush forest-y vibes with its slightly muddy yellow and brown undertones. While this color may stretch you out of your comfort zone, it will earn you endless style points. For another similar shade, try Addiction Tokyo's Kyoto Moss.
So yes, this shade should be familiar to you. One of the brand's original nail colors, Essie Bordeaux was first released back in 1981, and it's equally in style today, according to Kandalec. That's because wine-colored hues are fall classics—they work with a variety of skin tones and add sophistication to every outfit. If you're looking for more of a brown with red undertones, we also like the new Essie Boho Rodeo.
'We're seeing white in the fall nail collections this year, which is pretty rare,' says Kandalec. 'There are ecru and eggshell shades, and even whites with a little pearl or microshimmer finish.' This sheer creamy white polish from Londontown is designed to strengthen and moisturize nails—with ingredients like evening primrose oil, cucumber extract and vitamin E—which is helpful as fall air becomes crisper and drier.
Nail colors that mimic fall leaves and pumpkin hues are, fittingly, back this season. This spicy shade is a warm orange-brown, but with an updated reflective finish. It's ideal for those who want extra shine without adding gems or additional nail art. For a color-shifting bronze, try ILNP Abundance.
If you wore hot pink in summer and are looking for a pink shade that transitions into fall, raspberry is a good choice, according to Lim. This statement-making pink is infused with peony and pistachio extract to protect nails.
Ulta Beauty Glamnetic La Perle Press On Nails
'French manicures—especially micro-French manicures—are big for fall,' says Kandalec. 'They make the nail beds look long.' The only issue is, precise micro-French styles can be labor intensive and difficult to execute at home. As an alternative, this press on set from Glamnetic has a square-oval shape and glazed finish that gives nails a pulled together, stylish look. For an edgy twist, try almond shaped French mani press-ons with black tips and gem nail art.

For this story we spoke with two leading nail experts: Julie Kandalec, New York City-based celebrity manicurist and educator, and Evelyn Lim, chief educator at Paintbox.
For this list, we started with a broad, comprehensive search. We scoured trend forecasts from top nailcare brands, we pored over runway looks and we sought the expertise of respected nail artists. We sought out bestselling formulas and new shades from top brands, including Essie, Manicurist, OPI and Lights Lacquer.
We consulted two nail experts for this story. We discussed specific color families and polish names that are trending for fall 2025 in addition to popular nail trends like micro-French nails and bronze or copper metallics.
We considered polishes at different price points because everyone is working with a different budget.
We took online reviews into account as well. While some shades aren't always right for certain skin tones, we assessed if users reported that polishes were prone to chipping or streaking.

Taylor Swift announces new album 'The Life of a Showgirl' in clip from Travis Kelce's podcast — what we know

The clip was shared on Instagram at 12:12 a.m. ET on Aug. 12, a nod to Swift's 12th album. It's been a long time coming … and now we have a title for Taylor Swift's 12th album. The new work, The Life of a Showgirl, was announced on a video clip from the Wednesday, Aug. 13, episode of Travis and Jason Kelce's podcast, New Heights. It was shared on Instagram at 12:12 a.m. ET on Tuesday, Aug. 12, as a nod to Swift's 12th album. In the clip, Swift shows the brothers a record holder, which is mint green with the initials T.S. on it. 'This is my brand-new album, The Life of a Showgirl,' the singer declares, taking out the vinyl, the cover of which is blurred. Swift's website also isn't giving away the cover art, showing only a blurred orange and green image with a lock on it. Fans are able to preorder the vinyl, cassette and CD editions of the new album on the website. Swift has not revealed a track list or even a release date for the album. Her website states that pre-orders will ship out on Oct. 13, but that this is not an official drop date for the new work. While fans will have to wait to learn more about The Life of a Showgirl, the music icon is hitting the ground running on the album rollout. Billboards in Nashville and New York (two places Swift has called home) direct viewers to a Spotify playlist curated by the star titled "And, baby, that's show business for you." The playlist contains 22 songs, all of which were produced by Max Martin and Shellback, prolific pop music producers who worked with Swift on her albums Red, 1989 and Reputation. Fans speculate that the playlist could hint that Swift is reuniting with the team for The Life of a Showgirl. Meanwhile, others are getting in on the fun surrounding Swift's upcoming release. The Empire State Building in New York City was lit up in orange in celebration. And when you search "Taylor Swift" on Google, orange confetti rains down, and a burning heart icon pops up that says "And baby, that's show business for you." Eagle-eyed Swifties first noticed something was in the works with the Eras Tour icon on Aug. 11, when Taylor Nation — the official platform for all things Swift — took to social media to share a post featuring 12 photos of Swift, all in the same shade of orange. The caption of the post was 'Thinking about when she said 'See you next era …'' along with a red heart surrounded by orange flames. Meanwhile, Swift's boyfriend, Travis Kelce, announced that Swift would be the surprise guest on his and his brother Jason Kelce's New Heights podcast episode dropping on Wednesday. The brothers initially hinted that Swift could be joining them in a post Monday afternoon that featured Travis in Swift merch with a sparkly orange background, which fans caught on to immediately. The 12th album marks Swift's first new music release since she announced that she officially owns her first six albums after a lengthy battle over her master recordings. The artist began a rerecording project after she learned in 2019 that her masters were sold to Scooter Braun against her will. Swift went on to release enormously successful 'Taylor's Versions' of her 2008 album, Fearless; her 2010 album, Speak Now; her 2012 album, Red; and her 2014 album, 1989, and now owns the original works as well. 'To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it,' Swift wrote in a letter to fans posted on her website when she purchased her masters. 'All I've ever wanted was the opportunity to work hard enough to be able to one day purchase my music outright with no strings attached, no partnership, with full autonomy.' While fans were initially anticipating rerecordings of her 2006 self-titled album and her 2017 album, Reputation, to be among her next releases, Swift instead appears to be focusing on making new music. 10 Of The Best "Project Runway" Season 21 Looks (So Far)

As Heidi Klum would say, "In fashion, one day you're in, and the next day you're out." Luckily for the designers below, they are officially still in the competition. Here's a breakdown of the top looks from the first three episodes of Season 21. In the first episode, the designers were divided into two competing fashion houses and challenged to create a look inspired by Disney princesses and villains. The top looks came from Ethan, Yuchen, and Jesus, with Ethan winning the challenge overall. Heidi Gutman / Disney Ethan's winning look: Yuchen's look: Jesus's look: However, it should be pointed out that one of the judges (Law Roach) absolutely hated this look. He said, 'I hated it. She doesn't look young. She looks like a Nigerian auntie.' In the second episode, the designers were asked to create multipurpose athleisure looks that can go from day to night. The top three looks came from Jesus, Joseph, and Belania, with Jesus winning. (They also gave a shout-out to Ethan for his look, even though he was on the losing team.) Heidi Gutman / Disney Jesus's winning look: Joseph's look: Belania's look: Ethan's bonus look: In the third and most recent episode, the designers were asked to use their creative skills to transform "boring" fabric into fabulous fashion. The top looks were from Belania, Jesus, and Antonio, with Belania winning the challenge. Heidi Gutman / Disney Belania's winning look: Jesus's look: Antonio's look: What do you think of the winning looks? Do you think any of them didn't deserve to be in the top? People Are Praising 'Zombies 4' For Revitalizing Disney Channel Movies, And I'm Here For It

If you're a millennial or elder Gen-Z, then you know what a HUGE deal Disney Channel movies were growing up. The Cheetah Girls, Gotta Kick It Up!, we had it ~so~ good. Aside from a few bright gems like the Descendants films, there haven't been a ton of memorable Disney Channel Original Movies in recent years. But we may be entering a DCOM renaissance. Everyone can't get enough of Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires, and I totally get why. The fourth installment in the Zombies franchise, which originally launched in 2018, follows Zed (Milo Manheim) and Addison (Meg Donnelly) as they embark on a summer road trip after their first year of college, only to find themselves caught in the middle of a high-stakes conflict between Daybreakers and Vampires. The cast also includes Kylee Russell (Eliza), Chandler Kinney (Willa), Malachi Barton (Victor), Freya Skye (Nova), Julian Lerner (Ray), Swayam Bhatia (Vera), Mekonnen Knife (Vargas), Lisa Chappell (Vampire Eldress), and Jonno Roberts (Commander Bright). Recently, Reddit user u/Illustrious-Term-539 kickstarted a convo about how Zombies 4 captures what made those OG Disney Channel movies so good in the first place: "I can't express how much I love this movie," they wrote. "[It's] what we have been missing for years now. It brought the magic of Disney Channel back. ... Disney Channel cannot stop making these movies. The new generation needs something to hold on to like we had years ago." A lot of people agreed and chimed in to offer their own thoughts on why Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires stands out: "It was INCREDIBLE. I absolutely loved it, and I totally agree about how important it was for the Disney Channel. I especially loved that when they sang 'Ain't No Doubt About It' this time, they didn't have the little 'I hope' or any other uncertainties. It was a beautiful moment." "I was about 18 or 19 when the first zombies came out, and it really had a lasting impact. Fast forward to now at 4 is here, and I may be past the ideal age, but I couldn't pass up watching it. It brought back nostalgia from when I was wrapping up my late teens/early adult years of my life. Seeing Milo and Meg pass the torch down to the next generation was so bittersweet and kind of sad to know its the end of an era, but its time for the next generation to take charge of these films. Between the Zombies films and the Descendants films, we were eating good, and I hope Disney continues to develop shows and movies like this for the next generation." —u/loganburton23 "Having Eliza back really made Zombies 4 feel like a return, not just an imitation." —u/Zealousideal_Sea8123 "I LOVE every Zombies movie. I'm 42. My kids are 8 and 6. They watch these on repeat and I'm not mad. My daughter's last b-day was Zombies themed. I know the words to every song. ... They are great, wholesome movies teaching them about [accepting] differences." —u/beautiful49 "I LOVE the fact [that they] did a rendition of the 'Someday' dance. I was really hoping for it!" "The movie wasn't perfect, but thats fine. It was better than I thought and actually cleared up a small plot hole about Zed's Z-band. There was some cringey dialogue, but hey, it's a Disney Channel movie, so that should be expected. Personally I enjoyed this more than Rise of Red. ... I think having Milo and Meg as executive producers helped [because] they literally spent their teen years doing this franchise." —u/Creative_Rent_7149 "I'm 27 and loved it. The songs are a vibe, the actors are SO cute, and it's a cheesy, feel-good vibe! I downloaded some of the album on my phone hahaha! I miss old Disney, and this took me back!" "I liked Zombies 4 more than D4 [Descendants: Rise of the Red], and I think it's because there was still consistency of the lead characters. I also thought the songs in Z4 were really catchy?? It felt like the best of the different movies combined in one. I thought Z3 was too similar to Z2, but Z4 felt different because they were passing the torch to new leads, and it was a whole new storyline." —u/Current_Record_6187 "I know MD and MM have said they want more behind the camera work too, but I (selfishly) hope that Zed and Addison aren't done with. Would be cool to see them older and (in the far future) having a family. I get I'm too old for Disney etc., but it's also kinda like Wizards and their passing of the torch." —u/Evadenly "In the lyrics to 'Possible,' Zed and Addison said to Victor and Nova that they are passing the torch. 'Ain't No Doubt About It' was a message to viewers that we'll be fine and everything is okay. Yes, the Zombies franchise is changing, but it will still be alright. Eliza and Willa waving weren't actually waving to Zed and Addison, it was their final wave goodbye. And the movie itself ended with Victor and Nova to show they are the two remaining and the franchise will be moving forward with THEM as the new 'Zed and Addison.'" —u/MAMAuthorpreneur_564 What are your hopes for future Disney Channel movies?
