Arielle Konig set off for a hike on Oahu with her anesthesiologist husband on March 24.
And after they had posed for a photo at the edge of the 1,000-foot Nu'anu Pali Lookout, which offers sweeping views of the windward side of the island, Dr. Gerhardt Konig tried to kill his wife, according to Honolulu prosecutors.
The 36-year-old mother of two was found along the Pali Puka trail near the lookout spot with multiple head and facial injuries, according to a March 28 news release announcing that a grand jury had indicted Gerhardt, 46, on a charge of attempted murder.
He is accused of hitting Arielle in the head with a rock multiple times after first trying to push her off a cliff, per the release. Gerhardt fled the scene but was arrested later that same night following a foot pursuit near Nuuanu Pali Drive, prosecutors said.
Defense attorney Thomas Otake told E! News that Gerhardt plans to plead not guilty to attempted murder at his arraignment scheduled for April 7 and had no further comment at this time.
Bail was initially set at $5 million but, in the wake of the indictment, Gerhardt was remanded and remains in custody at O'ahu Community Correctional Center, according to prosecutors.
Once she was with the police, she said she learned her husband had FaceTimed her adult stepson.
'Gerhardt was observed to be covered in blood,' she said in the petition. 'Gerhardt said 'I just tried to kill Ari but she got away.''
She additionally stated that her stepson told her that his father wanted to kill himself by jumping off a cliff.
He was instead arrested by Honolulu police officers, who had set up a large search area for him near the Pali Lookout.
Arielle Konig's attorney Brandon Segal told Hawaii News Now in a statement on Friday: 'Arielle is focusing on her recovery at home in Maui with the support of her family. She kindly asks that the media and the public respect their privacy during this time.'

In the meantime, Arielle has secured a temporary restraining order against her spouse of six years, with whom she shares two sons, ages 2 and 4.
In her March 27 TRO petition, obtained by E! News, Arielle accused Gerhardt of recent abusive behavior before the alleged attack:

The former couple, Cozart noted, had been divorced for many years but maintained a friendly relationship as co-parents. During the hand-off, Cozart explained that Decker told his ex-wife he would bring their daughters back to her at 8 p.m. that day, as their custody agreement did not allow for overnight visits. When Decker did not show up at the allotted time, Whitney became worried and called him—but his phone went straight to voicemail. She called authorities later that night, according to an affidavit obtained by NBC News. Cozart told CNN that Decker had struggled with mental health issues, but said, 'He never displayed any sort of 'red flags' to Whitney." In an affidavit obtained by NBC News, Decker is described as a military veteran who is 'well versed in wilderness survival and capable of spending days or even weeks in the wilderness on his own and with very little equipment.' Sean "Diddy" Combs Trial Week 5: Defense Requests Second Mistrial

Originally appeared on E! Online Sean 'Diddy' Combs is back in court. The 19th day of the rap mogul's sex trafficking trial resumed June 9 following his defense team's second request for a mistrial, according to NBC News reporters in the courtroom. Over the weekend, attorney Alexandra Shapiro filed a motion viewed by E! News, in which she argued that his ex Cassie Ventura and her friend Bryana Bongolan of lying about the latter being dangled from a 17th-floor balcony in 2016 by Combs. His defense team—whose first motion was denied by Judge Arun Subramanian May 28—accused the prosecution of 'misconduct' with the 'introduction of perjured testimony.' The prosecution will respond to the motion and the judge is set to respond June 10. As the jury awaits the decision, Combs' ex—who is going by 'Jane' during the trial and was identified as 'Victim-2' in the indictment—has returned to the witness box following an emotional testimony about alleged abuse in their relationship. More from E! Online Tony Awards 2025: George Clooney Gives Rare Update on His, Amal's Kids Ella and Alexander Alex Cooper Accuses Her College Soccer Coach of Sexual Harassment Billie Eilish and Nat Wolff Confirm Romance With Steamy Makeout Session 'Jane' said that she felt she had to keep having sex with men for Combs during 'hotel nights'—which were referred to in the indictment and by Ventura and other witnesses as "freak offs"—because she was financially dependent on him. 'My feeling of obligation really started to stem from the fact that my partner was paying my rent,' she told the jury June 6, alleging that if she objected to his sexual requests, 'He would just start saying things like 'If you want to break, that's fine. Do you need, like, three more months in the house? Because I'm not about to be paying for a woman's rent that I'm not even seeing.'' She said that Combs began paying the rent for her home in April 2023, two years into their relationship, and is still doing so after he allegedly proposed a 'love contract' the month before. 'Jane' broke down in tears during her testimony after recalling a 'hotel night' on her birthday, which she specifically requested not to do. 'I just sat there on the couch, got in position to have intercourse, so we could just get it over with,' she told jurors. 'I asked Sean for a condom. Sean was giving me this really bad look. He gave me a dirty look, like shaking his head and said, 'You better not ask for a f--king condom.'' After Combs allegedly handing the escort the condom, she said he was 'so dismissive.' 'He was walking away,' she testified. 'He looked so disappointed while all of this was happening. It made me feel really bad. I just wanted it to be over.'
