The Holyoke Police Department states that at around 10:05 a.m. on March 15, officers were sent to the Muller Bridge for a report of a stranded dog. When officers and firefighters arrived, they observed a dog on a rail platform over the side of the bridge on a small landing. Police said that one misstep could have resulted in the dog falling into the Connecticut River.
Holyoke Police said that one officer reached over the pedestrian railing to try and grab the dog, but was unable to reach him until hanging over the railing while being held up by several assisting officers and firefighters.
The dog was brought back to safety and taken to Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center in Springfield so he could be evaluated and reunited with his family. This serves as a reminder to residents that all animals need to be leashed when in public or outdoors.
