Music fans recall watching Live Aid concert at Wembley Stadium 40 years on
The London venue has collated stories from stars of the show, staff and fans in a online retrospective titled Live Aid 40 Memories.
The concerts, held in London and Philadelphia, took place on July 13 1985 and were organised by musicians Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise money for the Ethiopian famine.
The late Diana, Princess of Wales and the King, then Prince of Wales, attended the gig in London, which included performances from Sir Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Queen, Sir Mick Jagger and Tina Turner.
Lucy Swanson, daughter of the late BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Nightingale, was 17 when she went to the gig with her friend Kate Wolfe.
'I was 17. It was a time in our lives where everyone listened to the same radio stations, the same bands,' she said.
'Everyone watched Top Of The Pops. We had to go to Live Aid. As soon as it was announced it was the must-have ticket.
'Thankfully my mum was Annie Nightingale, a DJ on Radio 1 and out presenting Live Aid in Philadelphia on the same day.
'She bought us tickets to go – because everyone had to buy them. There were no freebies.
'There was a sense that every band was all singing for the same purpose.
'The crowd was amazing and everyone was present, no mobile phones, no selfies, no photos, it was better, just living in the moment of looking at the stage, wondering who was next.'
Vivien Harvey, who was a special constable on the day, only found out when she arrived that she would be given the task of looking after performers as they came on to the stage.
'We were on the coach on the way to the stadium when we were told where we would be situated for Live Aid,' she said.
'Some were told they'd be outside the stadium and some would be inside. I got the long straw, and got allocated to stand on the stage door.
'The crescendo, atmosphere, the buzz – very special. I saw lots of stars coming through the stage door including George Michael. But Freddie Mercury was the star of the show.'
Also recalling the event were Debbie Baxter, Henry Munro and Ann Sargeant, all of whom worked at the concert.
Ms Baxter, who was on the hospitality reception desk, said: 'I have so much pride knowing I was part of such an iconic event. I don't think it really resonated with me until years later.
'It wasn't until the film premiere of Bohemian Rhapsody took place in 2018 that I noticed younger staff members saying 'I wished I worked on Live Aid.'
'When I said that I had, they were amazed and were so excited to know what it was like. I realise now how lucky I was to have been part of such a historic event.'
Live Aid 40 Memories also features a video interview with Geldof, who recalls getting a back massage from Bowie just moments before he went on stage.

Vicar gets last minute Oasis tickets for son in 'mad miracle'
A vicar who missed out on tickets to see Oasis has said he made a "deal with God" so his heartbroken teenage son could see the band whose songs rocked him to sleep as a Huw Thomas, vicar of St Michael's Church in Flixton, Greater Manchester, and his son took a handmade sign with them to plead for help outside Heaton Park in a last-ditch attempt to watch the band on said: "I don't normally pray like this but I said to God if you get these tickets for me and my son I will give £200 to charity."His prayers were answered "in a totally mad way" when a passing fan decided to hand him tickets, he said. Time was running out when one fan stopped to read the notice and said they had a family emergency and could not attend the gig, so offered him Thomas said: "As much as I tried to pay them they refused - I said 'I know you have a problem, but I think God was working in the way you thought of my son in the middle of your own crisis'." Mr Thomas had a further obstacle as the tickets were in the name of the person who bought after he pleaded at one checkpoint with a police officer and told a security guard at the next one about his son and the fact he was a vicar, he got to see the was poignant for Mr Thomas, who was widowed eight years ago, as both he and his late wife were big Oasis fans and shared this with their son."I think my wife was really looking over us," he said."We both thought it was brilliant - I've seen the band three times back in the day when there were fights breaking out."This time there was a different atmosphere and it was great to see people my age with their kids who were really into it." Metallica to release single-day tickets for Aviva stadium shows
Metallica are set to release single-day tickets for their Aviva Stadium shows in June 2026. Single-night tickets for Dublin's Aviva Stadium on 19th & 21st of June costing from €81.25 to €181.25, subject to Ticketmaster charges, go on sale Friday 25th July at 10 am via Advertisement Pantera and Avatar will provide support on June 19th, while Gojira and Knocked Loose are the special guests on June 21st. Since opening in April 2023 in Amsterdam, the M72 tour has seen Metallica play to four million fans. The tour itinerary for 2026, which includes 16 shows in Europe and the UK spanning May, June and July, will continue the No Repeat Weekend tradition, with each night of the two-show stands featuring entirely different setlists and support lineups. Concerts are subject to licence.

A MAN has revealed he discovered an unpleasant surprise after arriving home and realising what his neighbours had done to his side of the fence. With summer in full force, millions of Brits are rushing to spruce up their grubby fences on the cheap by painting them. 3 3 3 Unfortunately for one man, TikToker @ s0me0fthegear, this came with a surprise he hadn't been warned about. According to the man, he had come home one day from work - only to discover his side of the fence was turned into a total mess. Sharing the damage online, the TikToker explained that his neighbours had decided to paint their side of the fence - and it appears that quite a bit of the product had landed on his side as well. While originally his side of the slatted fence was black, the makeover had left heaps of white paint seeping through and dripping down. After chatting to the neighbours the following morning, the man said they claimed they had no idea of the damage. ''I came home from work and found it like this,'' the TikToker said in a recent video shared on social media. ''It's absolutely fine, I will sort it at the weekend if it doesn't rain,'' he went on. ''Guess I'll be getting my paint brush out then!'' the man chuckled in the caption. But while the man didn't appear to be that bothered by the unexpected DIY fence makeover, some viewers warned that this was ''criminal'' and ''could be seen as an act of aggression or cause offense''.
