Gary Lineker 'in talks over new TV job' which could see him return to screens NEXT MONTH after the BBC axed him

Daily Mail23-05-2025

Gary Lineker is reportedly in talks with another broadcaster which could see the presenter return to TV next month, after he was axed by the BBC.
Lineker was axed following an Instagram post about Zionism featuring a rat that ignited an antisemitism row.
The 64-year-old apologised again earlier this week, and admitted his exit is 'the responsible course of action'.
He will present his final Match of the Day on Sunday after 26 years in the job - and will leave without a payoff from his £1.4million-a-year salary, MailOnline understands.
Lineker could reportedly make a swift return to screens, with the presenter's Goalhanger Productions in talks over a deal with DAZN, according to the Guardian.
The report claims talks are ongoing over Lineker's podcast, The Rest is Football, being featured as part of the streaming service's coverage of the FIFA Club World Cup.
It is claimed The Rest is Football could launch shows featuring matches from the tournament.
The Premier League is represented by Chelsea and Man City at the tournament, which will kick off in the United States next month.
The report added that Lineker's company could expand content with DAZN for the World Cup next year in the United States, Canada and Mexico, including the potential for instant post-match analysis.
'We're keen to take a similar approach to what we did around the [2024] Euros, with The Rest is Football going out more regularly across the tournament,' said a Goalhanger representative told The Guardian.
'We'll certainly be covering the World Cup, though no production plans have been finalised yet.'

Nicola Peltz hires Harvey Weinstein's ‘attack dog' PR to ‘crisis manage' her image amid Beckham family feud

NICOLA Peltz has hired Harvey Weinstein's former PR guru to help manage her image amid her ongoing feud with the Beckham family. According to reports, Nicola has enlisted the services of Hollywood's go-to crisis management specialist Matthew Hiltzik, who is described as an "attack dog". 6 6 6 6 The fearsome PR guru is "known for his aggressive manner" claims the Daily Mail, and makes it his mission to "bulldoze the press on both sides of the Atlantic into not printing any negative stories about his clients." The publication reports that Nicola has taken on the bullish publicist who has been described as "the most hardcore PR in America" and will "go to war" for the actress as the fallout with her in-laws plays out in the media. "He can be rude and agressive and that's why people hire him," a source is quoted as saying in the report. "It's a real statement that Nicola wants to bullishly lead the narrative . It's very telling just how desperate she is to come out of this looking good." Nicola is said to have taken a page out of her billionaire father Nelson Peltz's playbook, with the entrepreneur having raised her to "be a rottweiler" when it comes to business. Hiltzik famously represented film producer Weinstein, as well as Johnny Depp during his legal battle with ex wife Amber Heard. He has also been taken on by YouTuber Mr Beast, aka Jimmy Donaldson, after a series of allegations were made against the Beast Games creator. "Nicola hiring Hiltzik shows her determination to be in control of the narrative," says an insider. It comes after Nicola was labelled a "mean girl" in a series of articles, and she has also faced accusations that she is "controlling" Brooklyn. The couple certainly put on a united front i n a loved-up cover shoot with Glamour Germany this week. "You have to marry your best friend, someone you feel at home with. For me, Nicola is exactly that," Brooklyn said. Peltz-Beckham's respond to reports of family feud Nicola also dismissed claims she is a 'narcissistic monster', calling such reports "fake news" and added: "I'd love to deny it immediately, but it's not worth it.' As well as Hiltzik, Brooklyn and Nicola have also taken on Harry and Meghan's lawyer Jenny Afia. The appointment comes after the two couples hit it off at a dinner party in Montecito, California recently. And it appears as these efforts are a bid to reignite Nicola's film career after she feels her reputation has been damaged. "There is a lot at stake for Nicola," a source told the Mail. "Acting is where her heart is and there is no way she will want all of this noise going on to affect her chances of succeeding 6 6

Terrorism police deployed amid violence fears for World Cup qualifier

Tensions are high in Tirana as Albania host Serbia in England's 2026 World Cup qualifying group almost 11 years on from infamous abandonment because of drone carrying flag An estimated 2,000 police officers including an anti terrorism unit are bracing for trouble ahead of Albania and Serbia's World Cup qualifier in Tirana on Saturday night - after their most recent meeting in 2014 was abandoned because of an infamous drone row. The teams are facing off in Group K, the same pool as England, with visiting fans banned from attending the 22,500-capacity Arena Kombetare. ‌ But tensions will remain high throughout the weekend after the Serbia squad were escorted to their hotel by armed officers from the RENEA anti-terrorism unit. ‌ When the Balkan rivals met for a first time in October 2014, Serbia fans were heard chanting 'Kill the Albanian' before a drone carrying the flag of Great Albania flew over the Partizan stadium in Belgrade with the match still scoreless. It was dragged down by Serbia player Stefan Mitrovic, who was then subsequently surrounded by angry Albania players. From there ugly scenes erupted in the stands, leading to the game being abandoned. Months later the Court of Arbitration for Sport awarded Albania a 3-0 win. Serbia won the reverse fixture but it was held in a high-security bubble and passed off without major incident - despite rioting on the streets beforehand. Now they have been paired together with tonight's game coming under heavy scrutiny - especially since UEFA have awarded the nations joint hosting rights for the 2027 Under-21 Euros because they feel that can help build a relationship between the fierce rivals. And Armand Duka, president of the Albanian Football Federation, called on his compatriots to see the match as a sports event 'where the team gets support and positive energy from the fans to achieve the goal.' ‌ 'We want to give the message: let's live it as a sport festivity,' Duka told reporters, adding that Serbia supporters being banned "will contribute to a quieter environment.' He added: 'Players do not bear the burden of history or of the political tensions. They compete on the pitch to win, to give the best for the jersey they represent and, above all, to build the bridge of respect through the game.' Elseid Hysaj, the only member of Albania's present squad who was in the 2014 team, struck a peaceful note too, saying: 'We should be calm and be conscious that we are football players. We are here to please the fans and give our best for the victory.'

Simone Biles slams ‘sore loser' Riley Gaines over attacks on trans athlete

Seven-time Olympic gold medallist Simone Biles has publicly condemned former competitive swimmer Riley Gaines for her repeated attacks on transgender athletes, calling Gaines 'sick' and a 'sore loser' in a strongly worded social media post. The exchange erupted Friday night after Gaines mocked the Minnesota State High School League for turning off comments on a post celebrating Champlin Park High School's girls' softball team, which had just won the state championship. One of the team's players is a transgender girl. 'This championship was hijacked,' Gaines wrote on X, referring to the student-athlete as 'a boy' and ridiculing the league for disabling comments 'lol'. Biles, the most decorated gymnast of all time with 11 Olympic and 30 world championship medals, had seen enough. In a rare foray into online confrontation, she reposted Gaines' tweet and responded with a direct rebuke. 'You're truly sick,' Biles wrote. 'All of this campaigning because you lost a race. Straight up sore loser.' @Riley_Gaines_ You're truly sick, all of this campaigning because you lost a race. Straight up sore loser. You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive OR creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports. Maybe a transgender… The post referenced Gaines' performance at the 2022 NCAA championships, where she tied for fifth with Lia Thomas, a transgender swimmer. Since then, Gaines has built a prominent public profile lobbying against the inclusion of transgender women in women's sports, becoming a fixture on right-wing media outlets and appearing alongside Donald Trump as he signed an executive order banning trans girls and women from competing in women's sports. But Biles didn't stop there. 'You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive OR creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports,' she wrote. 'Maybe a transgender category IN ALL SPORTS!! But instead… You bully them… One thing for sure is no one in sports is safe with you around!!!!!' In a follow-up post, Biles added: 'Bully someone your own size, which would ironically be a male.' bully someone your own size, which would ironically be a male @Riley_Gaines_ Gaines quickly fired back, calling Biles' remarks 'so disappointing' and insisting: 'Men don't belong in women's sports and I say that with my full chest.' A 12-time All-American swimmer at the University of Kentucky, Gaines has used her tie with Thomas as the basis for a national campaign opposing transgender inclusion in sports. She has frequently misgendered athletes in public forums and has drawn criticism from LGBTQ+ advocates and athletes alike for singling out individuals, often minors, by name on social media. In the case of Champlin Park, Gaines made multiple posts about the transgender pitcher, even mentioning the player by name and referring to her with male pronouns, despite the team's vocal support for their teammate. The Rebels won the Class 4A title game 6-0. 'She's a great kid and a great teammate,' one coach told local media after the game. 'Her teammates love having her out there.' The comments from Biles, who has long championed mental health awareness and survivor advocacy, drew swift backlash from conservative commentators, who accused the Olympic champion of hypocrisy and attention-seeking. Outkick, the right-leaning sports outlet where Gaines is a regular contributor, called her remarks 'self-contradicting'. Gaines reposted several replies from fans who echoed her position, arguing that Biles was undermining women's sports and confusing the issue by suggesting a separate transgender category. 'It's not my job or the job of any woman to figure out how to include men in our spaces,' Gaines wrote in response. Other conservative influencers piled on, questioning why Biles chose to weigh in and accusing her of 'siding with men' in women's athletics. 'If trans participation isn't a big deal, why propose a separate division?' one post read, summing up a recurring critique in her mentions. Despite the backlash, Biles has not walked back her comments. Supporters praised her for using her platform to defend marginalized athletes and push back against what they view as a pattern of bullying and scapegoating by Gaines.
