Celtic Boys Club lawyers say seven-figure settlement agreed in sexual abuse cases
The law firm representing former Celtic Boys Club players says compensation has been agreed in over 20 legal claims of historic sexual abuse.
Thompsons Solicitors has represented around 30 survivors from sexual abuse allegations at Celtic Boys Club dating back to the 1970s, 80s and 90s. The firm announced on Tuesday 70 per cent of the cases had been settled for a seven-figure sum.

Thompsons said 'justice has finally been achieved' and further settlements were expected in the coming weeks.
Celtic had indicated in September 2023 it was seeking to settle the claims.
The compensation case had attempted to determine whether or not Celtic FC were responsible as employers for the abuse that allegedly took place at the Boys Club.
Lawyers acting for the survivors had argued that Celtic Boys Club and Celtic FC were 'intimately connected'. Celtic had denied the claim and insisted that the two clubs were separate entities. No admissions of liability were made as part of the announced settlements, Thompsons Solicitors say.
Laura Connor from Thompsons Solicitors said on Tuesday: 'Our clients trusted us to fight for them on these difficult cases and ensure their voices were heard.
'This litigation has been made far more complex and lengthy by the defender, while our clients have acted with resolute dignity throughout.
'At long last they have achieved success and can take this compensation as confirmation that Celtic Boys' Club was indeed inextricably linked to Celtic Football Club'.
In a statement to the BBC in September 2023, Celtic said the club 'has always taken allegations regarding abuse at Celtic Boys Club extremely seriously'.
Celtic have been contacted by The Athletic for comment.
In 2021, representatives of the survivors announced they were planning to mount a US-style 'class action' lawsuit against the club over the alleged abuse, in one of the first cases of its kind in Scotland.
The Boys Club, which no longer exists, was formed in the 1960s as a junior team for young footballers in Glasgow.

Soldiers on alert over ‘Lee Rigby-style' threat to behead paratrooper
Military staff at an Army base have been put on alert over a 'Lee Rigby-style' threat to behead a paratrooper. Security has been tightened at the Colchester garrison, where Parachute Regiment battalions are located, after online threats were intercepted by Nottinghamshire police. All military staff at the base have been warned not to wear any uniforms or clothing outside the camp which would identify them as military personnel. The families of service members have also been sent warnings. Police are investigating the online threats, which come 12 years after the beheading of Fusilier Lee Rigby stunned Britain. Fusilier Rigby was murdered by Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale on May 22 2013, outside the Royal Artillery barracks in Woolwich, south London, after he was seen wearing a Help for Heroes hoodie, which was popular with troops. The alert sent to families and service personnel at Colchester Garrison, where 3,500 troops and 750 civilian workers are based, says: 'Urgent. All, please disseminate to all your people in camp. 'We have received a warning that a man has made threats against members of the Para Regt and wants to carry out a 'Lee Rigby' style attack. 'The SCC [Security Control Centre] and main gate have been informed but ensure no Para Regt/military clothing is worn outside camp and remain vigilant.' The messages specifically named the suspect and stated other identifying details. It is not known whether he has yet been apprehended. The Ministry of Defence said: 'The safety and wellbeing of our personnel is our top priority. We are aware of an online threat, which is being investigated by the civilian police. 'Personnel are always advised to remain vigilant and report anything suspicious to the Royal Military Police.' Colchester's military history dates back to the late 18th century when the first barracks were built in the city. The garrison is the home of 16 Air Assault Brigade and troops from the Parachute Regiment's second and third battalions, alongside other infantry and aviation units and supporting detachments such as logistics and medical personnel. Airborne forces are notorious for wearing regimental clothing outside working hours, particularly distinctive maroon-coloured T-shirts and fleeces, most often worn with tight jeans and desert boots, a tradition that goes back many decades. Fusilier Rigby was a father of one from Middleton, Greater Manchester, and had served in Afghanistan. At the time of his death, he was working in army recruitment. He was a trained machine-gunner and a regimental drummer. He was given a military funeral at Bury parish church on July 12 2013. Broaden your horizons with award-winning British journalism. Postecoglou sacked by Spurs despite ending trophy drought
Ange Postecoglou took Tottenham to a Europa League triumph but it was not enough to save his job (JUSTIN TALLIS) Ange Postecoglou was sacked as Tottenham manager on Friday, just 16 days after the Australian ended the club's 17-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League. Postecoglou led Tottenham to a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in Bilbao to clinch the north Londoners' first European prize in 41 years and secure a place in next season's Champions League. Advertisement But the Australian paid the price for Tottenham's worst domestic season since they were relegated from the top flight in 1976-77. "Following a review of performances and after significant reflection, the Club can announce that Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties," a statement on Tottenham's official X account said. Exactly two years after he was hired from Celtic, Postecoglou's eventful spell in north London was brought to a end by chairman Daniel Levy. Tottenham lost 22 of their 38 Premier League games to finish 17th in the table, above only relegated trio Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton. Advertisement "The Board has unanimously concluded that it is in the best interests of the club for a change to take place," the statement said. "Whilst winning the Europa League this season ranks as one of the club's greatest moments, we cannot base our decision on emotions aligned to this triumph." smg/gj
