Robin Goodfellow's racing tips: Best bets for Saturday, May 31

Daily Mail2 days ago

Mail Sport's racing expert Robin Goodfellow delivers his tips for Saturday's Haydock, Chester, York, Southwell, Stratford and Lingfield.
The third-placed finish of LIEBER POWER (NB) at Newmarket on his last run has received multiple form boosts and he looks overpriced in the 1.13pm at Haydock.
The winner of that race, El Cordobes, was third in a Group Three on his next start, while the second and fourth both won their next races. Lieber Power runs here off a 1lb lower mark. In the 2.10pm at Chester, NEVER SO BRAVE (NAP) makes his reappearance at the same track where he beat the now 112-rated Witness Stand by two lengths in receipt of 3lbs.
Gelded since his last run and now making his stable debut for Andrew Balding, he should prove too good off 101 from stall six.

1.48 HAYDOCK: KODI LION is an improving sprinter who went close on his last two starts. Positive tactics from his high draw could see him land a third career win.
2.40 YORK: JM JUNGLE (nap), who has a good record at York, has chased home American Affair in both starts this season — form boosted when that horse ran well in a Group Two last week.
3.33 HAYDOCK: AUDIENCE, last season's Lockinge and Lennox Stakes winner, can take advantage of a drop in class and resume winning ways. The step back up to seven furlongs will also be in his favour.

Prison officers should be armed, say Conservatives

Prison officers dealing with violent inmates should be armed, the shadow justice secretary has said. Specialist guards should have Taser stun guns and baton rounds - a less lethal alternative to traditional bullets - to give them "confidence" in handling threats, Robert Jenrick told the BBC. The Conservatives said secure armouries should be introduced at maximum security jails and used as a last officers in adult male prisons currently only carry an extendable baton and Pava, a synthetic pepper spray. The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) said some prison officers will use Tasers this summer on a trial basis, but argued that giving them lethal weapons would put them at greater Prison Officers' Association (POA), a union, called for stronger protection for staff after a string of attacks. It said stun guns should be made available to officers working in the UK's most dangerous to the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg, Jenrick said that without intervention it was "only a matter of time" before a prison officer was "held hostage and potentially killed".He added that under his proposals, officers would not be "walking the wings" with lethal weapons, but would "have access to them if they need them".The Conservative's call for officers to be armed follows a review conducted for the party by former prison governor Ian other policies, the party also wants to see high-collar stab vests immediately rolled out to frontline officers. 'Dire record' In response to the proposals, Labour said it was "cleaning up the mess" after the Conservatives' "dire record" in office."In 14 years they added fewer than 500 prison places in total and closed 1,600 cells in the high-security estate as assaults on prison officers soared and experienced officers quit," a party spokesperson his BBC interview, Jenrick, who held various ministerial roles in the last government, conceded that his party "should have done more" in office."But we're in opposition now, it is my job to bring forward good, sensible solutions," he MoJ said protective body armour is used in segregation units and specialist areas for situations that are deemed as high added that a "snap review" into whether it should be used more routinely will report in the coming days.

Locals blast James Corden for abandoning the derelict $11million mansion he owns in the UK

James Corden sparks fury among residents in England's Oxfordshire by 'abandoning' the $11million mansion he purchased to knock down and turn into a new family home. The actor had been granted approval to demolish the 1960s property, after months of delays and objections from the local council and historic charity English Heritage. He planned to replace the structure with a six-bedroom pile with a pool and spa. It was recently announced that the former Late Late Show host was set to return to the U.S. for a 17-week run in a Broadway play. Locals in the quaint English surrounding villages feared Corden's building project would never be completed. The landlady of a local pub said it would be 'sacrilege' for the star to leave the property empty: 'He should live in it or sell it so a family can live in it. It's shameful to buy anywhere with that sort of standing and then have no one benefit from living in it. He should be ashamed. It's not fair. Blot on the land: The entrance to the property's gated and shut with signs showing the successful planning application for the plot One resident said: 'People like James Corden think they can do what they want. We need people actually living in the properties around here and then contributing locally. Not having grand plans and then leaving the country. We need certainty. 'He created a huge fuss around wanting the plans to go through how he wanted. How he is leaving. What is going on? 'That would be a lovely house and surroundings for someone local.' Another local agreed that it would be a shame if the celebrity left the house derelict: 'It would be a shame if he left it empty, as we get a lot of characters wanting to live here.' A local builder said: 'He's a lovely bloke - but to just buy a house and never live in it, that's mental. But he's rich, so he lives a different lifestyle.' A representative for Corden said he had no plans to move back to the U.S. 'full time'. The star had been hoping to replace the swimming pool as part of his luxury redevelopment
