Motor racing-Britain's Rowland takes Formula E title with two races to spare
BERLIN (Reuters) -Nissan's Oliver Rowland won the Formula E title for the first time and with two races to spare on Sunday, the Briton becoming the all-electric series' 10th different champion in the space of 11 seasons.
Rowland had needed to lead Pascal Wehrlein by 59 points after the second of two races in Berlin, the championship's penultimate weekend, and he did it by finishing fourth with his Porsche rival only 16th despite starting on pole.
The Briton now has 184 points with Wehrlein on 125.
Sunday's race at Berlin's old Tempelhof airport was won by Jaguar's Nick Cassidy, completing a weekend sweep after teammate Mitch Evans won on Saturday, with Andretti's Jake Dennis second and Jean-Eric Vergne third for DS Penske.
The final two races of the season are in London on July 26-27.
It was the first time a Japanese manufacturer had won the championship.

The former Youth Olympics champion was three shots adrift of the lead after 14 holes at Evian-les-Bains in the French Alps but went birdie-birdie-par-eagle to force her way into a playoff with Thai world number two Jeeno Thitikul. Kim's charge looked over when she dunked her approach to the 18th into a green-side pond in the first extra hole. Instead, she chipped in for birdie over the same pond to force another hole, then drained a 20-foot eagle putt to deny Thitikul and claim one of the great wins in major golf. In her third season on the LPGA Tour, Kim had been treading water with only one top-10 finish in her previous 11 starts but said she had come to Evian-les-Bains with a different mindset. "Obviously it's a huge achievement for me. I've had a lot of doubts early this year. I was kind of losing motivation,' said the 24-year-old, whose only previous win was in Hawaii in 2023. "I kind of had to get some hard conversations done with the team. Yeah, kind of had to wake up a little bit. "So to be sitting here next to this trophy is definitely surreal." Australian women's golf is in a good spot. Kim's win comes weeks after compatriot Minjee Lee won the Women's PGA Championship, shrugging off a lean period for her third major. Lee watched as Kim holed the winning putt on Sunday and bolted onto the green to spray her with champagne. Kim joins a select list of Australian major winners in women's golf, the others being seven-times champion Karrie Webb, three-times winner Jan Stephenson and Hannah Green. "I saw there is a picture of Karrie as you walk into the locker room, walking down 18 as well, so seeing that each day is motivating," said the Sydney native. Soccer-Brazil launch Women's Copa America title defence with 2-0 win over Venezuela
QUITO (Reuters) -Brazil got their quest for a ninth Women's Copa America crown off to a winning start with a 2-0 win over Venezuela on Sunday in Quito. Venezuela created the better early chances with Dayana Rodriguez firing wide from distance and Barbara Olivieri going close after a corner. Brazil got the breakthrough just after the half-hour mark with Amanda Gutierres finishing off a well-worked move that began with Isadora Haas's deep cross to Giovana, who set up the striker to slot home. The defending champions sealed the victory when Duda Sampaio converted Giovana's header into a brilliant finish two minutes before the end. The victory took Brazil's record in the competition to 48 wins, 1 draw and two defeats from their 51 games. It was also their seventh successive win over Venezuela in the tournament.
