Will RM1 million windfall lift City Boys?
Their fans will expect a better showing from the City Boys after a surprise RM1 million sponsorship from the government on Saturday.
KLFA president Syed Yazid Syed Omar welcomed the surprise RM1 million grant.
However, KL fans will now demand results and better long-term planning from the city team.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a RM1 million allocation to help boost football in Kuala Lumpur, during KLFA's 50th Jubilee celebration.
The announcement took the KLFA leadership by surprise. "I didn't expect it at all. We didn't ask, but the prime minister announced it in front of everyone. I am very thankful," said Syed Yazid.
"We'll discuss how to use the funds during our exco meeting. What's important is that the money will help us manage KLFA better.
"There are no salary arrears (involving the KL Super League team) and we've resolved old issues with former players and staff amicably," he said.
However, the RM1 million injection has also led to many fans asking whether KLFA can justify such high-level backing.
Football critic Datuk Dr Pekan Ramli urged KLFA to treat the RM1 million sponsorship as a responsibility, not a reward.
"When the prime minister gives you RM1 million without being asked, it's not just a gift, it's a responsibility," said Pekan.
"The fans are right to ask questions. KLFA has to prove we deserve this support. That means showing real progress, not just on the pitch, but in how we manage the team, invest in development, and rebuild trust in the structure."

A-GC: Full pardon erased all bars on Anwar, making lawsuit baseless
KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's royal pardon in 2018 fully restored his eligibility to serve as a member of parliament and as Prime Minister, the Attorney-General's Chambers (A-GC) has affirmed, rejecting claims in a lawsuit that he should have been disqualified. In a statement, the A-GC said the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong had granted Anwar a full pardon, reinstating his legal status "as a person who has never committed any offence." This, it added, meant there was no basis for disqualification under Article 48(1)(e) of the Federal Constitution. The clarification follows a suit filed by lawyer and former minister P. Waytha Moorthy, who is seeking to nullify Anwar's election as Tambun MP on Nov 19, 2022, and his appointment as prime minister five days later. Waytha argued that the pardon did not expressly exempt Anwar from the constitutional five-year ban on contesting elections after a prison release. The former cabinet minister, who served under Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad from 2018 to 2020, claimed that without such an exemption, Anwar should have been barred from standing in the 15th General Election. Citing the Court of Appeal's decision in Anwar Ibrahim v Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz [2023] 2 MLJ 545, the A-GC stressed that the King held the constitutional authority to pardon both the conviction and the sentence. "Therefore, there is no question of Datuk Seri Anwar being disqualified as a member of the Dewan Rakyat or as prime minister," it said. The A-GC further said that any challenge to an MP's election must be made through an election petition under Article 118 of the Federal Constitution and within the time frame stipulated in Section 38 of the Election Offences Act 1954.

Waytha Moorthy's legal bid to disqualify Anwar as PM and MP is baseless, AGC says, citing full royal pardon
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would not be at risk of being disqualified as the prime minister or as Tambun MP, as he had previously received a full royal pardon, the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) indicated today. On Tuesday, non-governmental organisation Hindraf's chairman P. Waytha Moorthy filed a lawsuit, seeking a court order to immediately stop Anwar from being both Tambun MP and the prime minister. Commenting on Waytha Moorthy's lawsuit, AGC today said it respects the rights of any individuals to file legal action in court, but said Anwar would not be disqualified from holding both positions. The AGC said the then 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong's (YDPA) pardon order in 2018 had stated that Anwar has been given a full pardon and is considered as someone who has never committed any offences. 'Therefore, the issue of Datuk Seri Anwar losing his qualification as Member of Parliament and as Prime Minister does not arise at all,' the AGC said in a statement today. In Waytha Moorthy's lawsuit against Anwar in the High Court in Kuala Lumpur, he had sought four court orders. The four court orders that Waytha Moorthy wanted are: a declaration that the YDPA had not removed Anwar's disqualification from being an MP, under Article 48(3); a declaration that this makes Anwar's election as Tambun MP in the 15th general election (GE15) on November 19, 2022 unconstitutional, null and void; a declaration that this makes Anwar's appointment as prime minister on November 24, 2022 is unconstitutional, null and void; a court order that Anwar therefore stop acting immediately as Tambun MP and prime minister. Waytha Moorthy is a lawyer, a former Dewan Negara lawmaker and a former minister. Waytha Moorthy's lawsuit had argued that Anwar is disqualified to be an MP under the Federal Constitution's Article 48(1)(e) as he had been convicted and sentenced to imprisonment of more than one year, and claimed that the YDPA's May 16, 2018 pardon of Anwar allegedly did not expressly say it was removing his disqualification. Under Article 48(1)(e), a person will be disqualified from being an MP, if they had not been pardoned after being convicted and sentenced to more than one year's jail or more than RM2,000 fine. The disqualification lasts for five years and will end five years after such individuals' release from prison or five years after the fine is paid. Under Article 48(3), the YDPA can remove such a person's disqualification from being an MP. In other words, the Agong can make such individuals qualified to be MPs. But apart from saying that Anwar had already been fully pardoned, the AGC today also said any challenge against any MP's election should be done through an election petition which should be filed according to deadlines under the law. The AGC cited the Federal Constitution's Article 118, which provides that challenging an MP's election should be done by filing an election petition in the High Court. The AGC also cited the Election Offences Act 1954's Section 38, which states the time limit for when an election petition should be filed after election results have been gazetted. This is not the first time that the AGC has clarified that Anwar had previously received a valid and full royal pardon.

Late equaliser gives KL City 'the worst feeling'
KUALA LUMPUR: KL City coach Risto Vidakovic said his team conceding a late equaliser in Wednesday's 1-1 Super League draw with 10-man Sabah was the "worst feeling". The City Boys led 1-0 at the KLFA Stadium after Declan Lambert scored with a deflected effort in the 64th minute. Gabriel Peres, however, headed in the equaliser for Sabah in the second minute of stoppage time. Sabah's Dean Pelekanos had been shown a red card at the end of the first half. Speaking at a post-match press conference, Vidakovic said his side dominated and should have won the match. :It's the worst feeling, considering we controlled almost the entire second half and had many chances to finish off the game. But that's football — sometimes you have to accept it, look forward and work hard," he said. "It was a very good opportunity to get three more points and build confidence. We are a new team, building from scratch. It was very important to win today, but that didn't happen." The Serbian coach said he was not blaming anyone for the draw and urged his team to bounce back in their FA Cup first-round clash against Kelantan The Real Warriors (KTRW) in Kota Bharu on Aug 18. "I don't like to blame anybody. It's part of football — 90 minutes of concentration, with everyone tired. We also started pre-season a little late, so we are not yet at our physical peak," Vidakovic said. "The FA Cup is next. As always, we will play our game and aim to win, but the most important thing now is to rest and recover psychologically. "It was a shock for us to concede that goal — the worst thing that can happen on the pitch. We must recover, especially our mood, after this game."
