He said this follows the recent fatal bus crash that claimed 15 lives near Tasik Banding in Perak.
Advertisement 'I will raise this matter in a Cabinet meeting tomorrow morning so we can look into what immediate steps that can be taken to improve, especially on the safety of the East-West Highway,' he told reporters here today. Loke said the highway is under the Works Ministry's jurisdiction, but road safety is a shared responsibility. 'However, when it comes to road safety, it is a serious matter so we need to work together with other ministries,' he said. He said discussions would not be limited to road barriers alone. 'We won't look into only the road barriers but also the road conditions, the lack of street lights at night,' he said. He added that his ministry will assist in installing solar lamps along the highway to improve visibility. Loke will also visit the accident site on Thursday with relevant authorities. 'We really need to take immediate and drastic measures by prioritising road safety issues, especially the East-West Highway,' he said. On the investigation into the crash, Loke said both police and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) are involved. 'The police will look into the incident in detail in terms of any criminal elements while JPJ will look into the technical part and conduct a safety audit on the bus company,' he said. The Land Public Transport Agency has also issued a show cause letter to the company, requesting data including the vehicle's GPS record. 'We need their GPS record as we want to know if the vehicle was speeding during that period and secondly, we will conduct an audit on the company on whether they had complied with safety measures,' Loke said. He said the authorities will also examine the driver's background. 'I do not want to jump to conclusions, we have to be fair so any investigations must be done according to facts,' he added. Kharkiv, in Ukraine's northeast, withstood Russian full-scale advance in the early days of the war and has since been a frequent target of drone, missile, and guided aerial bomb assaults. The attack followed Russia's two biggest assaults of the war on Ukraine this week, a part of intensified bombardments that Moscow said were retaliatory measures for Kyiv's recent attacks in Russia. Both sides deny targeting civilians in the war that Russia launched on its smaller neighbour in February 2022. But thousands of civilians have died in the conflict, the vast majority of them Ukrainian. "We are holding on. We are helping each other. And we will definitely survive," Terekhov said. TAWAU: The collapse of a tailings dam at a gold mining operation in Bukit Mantri has raised serious environmental concerns over potential cyanide contamination of the Kalumpang River and surrounding areas, with Merotai Assemblyman Sarifuddin Hata calling for comprehensive investigations into the incident. Sarifuddin described the breach of the containment facility, which stored toxic cyanide waste, as having irregularities that could have been prevented with proper mitigation plans and standard operating procedures. 'We believe the leakage and collapse of the dam storing toxic cyanide waste occurred due to weaknesses in the facility's maintenance system,' Sarifuddin said, Tuesday. Four held for drugs in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU: Four men including three foreigners were detained in three separate operations during Ops Tapis on Monday. District Acting Police Chief, Supt Jimmy Panyau said two men, an Indonesian and a Filipino were detained in raid at Bandar Sri Perdana for having 31 packets of translucent plastic containing substance believed to be syabu. He said the case would be investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952. Jimmy said a Filipino was detained following an operation at Kampung Bukit Belacon, Jalan Segama after police found 0.12 gramme of syabu in his possession. The suspect also tested positive for drugs. In a separate arrest, a 27-year-old local man was detained following a public tip. The suspect who had four previous narcotic criminal records tested positive for drugs. Both cases are being investigated under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, he said.
