Toronto police close downtown intersection after glass falls from cracked highrise window
Police have closed off a downtown intersection after a cracked highrise window sent glass falling to the ground below.
A spokesperson for Toronto police said the falling glass was first reported outside the building, located near the intersection of Simcoe and Wellington streets, on Thursday afternoon.
In an effort to prevent injuries, police said the roads will remain closed while the hazard is cleaned up and the glass is repaired.
It is unclear when the roadway will reopen.

Recent charges withdrawn against brothers facing outstanding drug trafficking and weapons allegations
Alleged drug traffickers Darryl and Kody Berdan had federal drug charges, laid earlier this year against them, withdrawn by the prosecution this week. The brothers from Alliston, Ont. who face several outstanding charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act were in court for the decision by an agent for the Public Prosecution Service of Canada relating to charges from April and May 2025 when both men were taken into custody accused of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. Darryl Berdan, 40, faces two drug trafficking counts from November 2024 when police said the accused was dealing drugs across Alliston and was pulled over along Young Street for a traffic stop of a vehicle with an obstructed licence plate. The elder Berdan, who goes by the name Kenny or Kenneth, was charged with possession of cocaine and methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking along with having proceeds of crime under $5,000 and breaching his probation. (Source: OPP) A few weeks later Berdan was charged under similar circumstances leading to a charge of possession of an unauthorized weapon. He was also charged with three counts of breach of probation. In April and May, Berdan was also charged with possession of weapons and failing to comply with release orders. His brother Kody, 36, was also charged twice in April with weapons counts and failing to comply with release orders during what provincial police described as a bail compliance investigation. Kody Berdan had his most recent federal drug charges withdrawn by the Crown as well but faces several weapons charges and seven counts of failing to comply with a release order. According to court records, he is also accused of aggravated assault and uttering threats in October 2023. The accused are scheduled to return to court next week, the outstanding allegations against them have not been tested in court.

Jeffrey Kent's lawyer says he has filed a notice of appeal challenging the recent ruling by an Edmonton Court of King's Bench judge to designate his client a dangerous offender. The designation is used to keep repeat dangerous offenders in prison for the rest of their lives pending periodic reviews by parole officials. Kent's lawyer says dangerous offender rulings are usually reserved for those who commit violence. Last month, a judge ruled Kent's crimes are of such a serious, harmful nature, and that — coupled with evidence suggesting he will continue such crimes if released — justifies making him a dangerous offender. Court heard Kent bilked five women by romancing them and pretending to be a doctor, lawyer and businessman, and getting them to invest in bogus real estate schemes while running up their credit cards, faking brain cancer to garner sympathy and, in one case, fathering a child by one of them. Senior seriously injured in East Vancouver hit and run: police

In a news release Friday, the Vancouver Police Department said the victim was crossing Grandview Highway at Slocan Street just before 5:30 p.m. on July 11 when she was struck by a grey SUV. The driver didn't stop and continued driving east on Grandview Highway, according to police. The 70-year-old pedestrian was taken to hospital with injuries police described as serious, but not life-threatening. 'We believe there were several bystanders who attempted to chase after the vehicle,' Const. Tania Visintin said, in the release. 'Investigators would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision. We also want to speak to the driver of the grey SUV to determine what circumstances led up to the incident.'
