Filipino couple marry in ‘extraordinary wedding' during Typhoon Wipha

Jade Rick Verdillo and Jamaica Aguilar were determined to walk down the aisle on their wedding day. Even if it meant walking down a flooded one.
On Tuesday, the Barasoain church in Malolos, Bulacan province,
Philippines , flooded due to heavy rain. Typhoon Whipa had intensified seasonal monsoon rains in the Philippines, bringing widespread flooding.
The couple anticipated the risk of flooding, but instead of letting the weather dampen the mood, they decided to push through, as all marriages have their challenges.

'We just mustered enough courage,' said Verdillo.
'We decided today because it is a sacrifice in itself. But there will more sacrifices if we don't push through today.'
Aguilar waded down the aisle with her white dress and wedding train floating behind her through waters almost up to her knees.

Chinese woman, 26, missing in Australia after being swept away by floodwaters

A Chinese woman remains missing after being swept away by floodwaters in southeastern Australia. China's Consulate General in Sydney had confirmed the news, while urging local authorities to 'make every effort' to save her, Chinese state media reported on Sunday. The 26-year-old was one of two Chinese women caught up in floods in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales (NSW) state on Saturday evening. The other woman, 27, was rescued, China's state news agency Xinhua reported, citing the consulate. The mission said that it had contacted local police multiple times, urging them to make every possible effort and deploy maximum resources in the search for the missing person, the report said. The NSW Police Force said in a statement on Sunday that emergency services had been called back to the area on Saturday evening after receiving reports that a car was trapped in floodwaters. Police said the two women had tried to drive through floodwaters but became stranded. As they tried to exit the small car, the driver was rescued uninjured but her passenger was swept away.

31 die in Chinese nursing home as Beijing flood death toll rises to 44

The official death toll from storms in Beijing has risen to 44, with Chinese officials saying on Thursday that 31 people died in a flooded nursing home. Advertisement Beijing vice-mayor Xia Linmao said the nursing home was in the mountainous outlying district of Miyun, where 37 people in all have died in the storms over the past week. The home was built in 2021 in Taishitun township upstream of the Miyun Reservoir, and offers residential care for the severely disabled, orphaned, elderly and low-income residents. Miyun Communist Party boss Yu Weiguo said 77 people, including 55 who were either fully or partially incapacitated, were in the home when water poured into the surrounding area and submerged it. Emergency workers were quick to respond, Yu said, but the fast-moving water made rescue efforts extremely challenging. Search and rescue operations of the centre continued into the following day, during which many elderly people died, according to Yu. 03:02 'A big storm unseen in a century': heavy rainfall in Beijing kills at least 30 'A big storm unseen in a century': heavy rainfall in Beijing kills at least 30 Yu said that more than 16,000 people in Miyun had evacuated in advance, but the nursing home was in an area that had long been considered safe. It was not seen as in a high-risk zone and so people in the facility were not included in the evacuation plan.
