India Today26-05-2025

In a huge relief to former Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Singh, Delhi's Patiala House Court on Monday closed a sexual harassment case filed against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.The court accepted the cancellation report filed by the Delhi Police in the case on June 15, 2023. On August 1, 2023, the alleged victim and her father did not raise any objection to the police report in the case and expressed satisfaction with the police investigation.advertisementWhile the Delhi Police had filed a chargesheet in the sexual harassment complaint filed by six wrestlers against Singh, they had filed a cancellation report in the case involving the minor.
In the POCSO matter, the Delhi Police submitted a report under Section 173 CrPC, requesting the cancellation of the case based on the statements of the minor complainant and her father. The court then issued a notice to the minor complainant and her father and sought their response. In August 2023, the minor complainant and her father appeared physically before the court in response to the notice.Following that, the court sought several clarifications. During the previous hearing, the court also asked the complainant to appear before it again. The order was finally passed on Monday, accepting the police's closure report.advertisementAfter the closure of the case, the BJP leader's son Prateek Bhushan Singh claimed vindication, exuding confidence that the remaining sexual harassment cases against his father would also turn out to be false.
"We have achieved a judicial victory in a false and fabricated case. Every baseless allegation is now being thwarted in the dock of justice. This is the victory of truth – and this victory will continue!!" he wrote on X in Hindi."Brijbhushan Sharan Singh gets big relief from Patiala House Court. The court accepted the police closure report on the allegations of sexual exploitation of a minor female wrestler," he added. In 2023, Brij Bhushan Singh was accused of sexual assault by several female wrestlers, who sat on a protest for weeks demanding a probe against him.Olympian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, along with Olympic bronze medal-winners Bajrang Punia, and Sakshi Malik, spearheaded the agitation against him. However, Singh called it a conspiracy hatched by the Congress in connivance with the wrestlers to rule him out of the race for the WFI presidential elections.Must Watch

‘India can be global green credit hub'

Lucknow: Sarojininagar MLA Rajeshwar Singh delivered an address at the National Conclave on Environmental Services & Environmental Musketeers Awards 2025 in New Delhi on Friday. The event was organised by the Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC) under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. Speaking before a high-level gathering of policy experts, green entrepreneurs, and govt officials, Singh underscored the urgent need for intergenerational climate justice, calling climate action both a moral and constitutional duty. Citing alarming statistics — such as the risk of extinction facing over one million species — he warned of irreversible ecological damage unless urgent systemic reforms are undertaken. Singh highlighted India's untapped $1 billion carbon credit potential, noting that sectors like afforestation, EV infrastructure, and sustainable agriculture remain underutilised. "If leveraged correctly, India can emerge as a global green credit hub and drive SDG-aligned economic growth," he said. He called for policy reforms, improved verification mechanisms, and the integration of green credits into national frameworks. Advocating for a climate-ready workforce, Singh also stressed the need for green skilling programs to align India's youth with the demands of a low-carbon economy.
