How Jo Potter wants Rangers Woman to restore pride in final

To add to Gers misery, their Scottish Gas Women's Scottish Cup final opponents at Hampden Park this weekend beat Hearts 2-0 to pip Rangers to second place and a European spot and Potter is looking for a response to end the season on a high.
She said: 'We can't make up for what happened in the league. We don't shy away from that, but we've got to put a few things right.
'We've got to make sure that we're proud of our performances.
'We've not been proud of a lot of performances that we've put on throughout this season and it hasn't been good enough ultimately.
'But we've got another game, we've got a chance to put it right and when there's a trophy on the line, you've got to do all you can.
'Yes, there was a big trophy on the line on Sunday and we didn't manage to turn up and get that one over the line, but we've got another chance again this week.

'We've got to make sure that we're doing everything we can because it's the last one of the season.'
Glasgow City boss Leanne Ross is pleased the game is taking place at Hampden Park.
It is the third season in a row that the showpiece occasion will take place at the national stadium.
City are record cup holders with nine wins but none of them have been at the famous Mount Florida ground.
Former Glasgow City midfielder Ross said: 'The Scottish Cup in itself is a special competition, especially to the Scottish players and staff.
'It's something that we've grown up with and the fact that we're now able to play at the national stadium as well, just adds that a little bit more excitement and it would make it even more special to lift it there.
'I think the spectators are in for a really competitive game. All the games this season have been really tight.
'Both teams play good football, so we're going to go there and it's down to who performs best on the day.
'The games have been really tight between us this season.
'We've played two games at Ibrox (won 1-0, drew 1-1), but I think in terms of Glasgow City, we are really happy with how we've performed in those games.
'The most pleasing thing for us is that we're up there challenging and we're going to make it difficult game for Rangers on Sunday.'

Roy Keane admits surprise at being punched by person he 'loved' – 'He blamed me'

Roy Keane has opened up on the time he was punched by a former manager in the dressing room, after making a huge mistake in his early years as a player The late Brian Clough once punched Roy Keane in the dressing room, but that did not stop the fiery Manchester United legend from loving him. Before he became the explosive Red Devils captain that won everything there was to win, Keane played under Clough at Nottingham Forest, where he received the iconic manager's own brand of tough love. The two-time European Cup winner was the man who brought Keane to England, signing the Irishman from Cobh Ramblers in 1990. Keane quickly rose to prominence as one of the most promising young talents in European football. ‌ His journey under Clough was marked by many hard and, at times, physical lessons. One of those was brutally inflicted after an FA Cup third-round replay against Crystal Palace in 1991, where Keane made an error that led to them drawing at the City Ground. ‌ Reflecting on Clough's unique approach to management during a recent appearance on the Stick to Football podcast, Keane said: "He (Clough) played mind games sometimes. If you got beaten, you'd think he's going to go after you and then he'd go the other way and go, 'Have a few days off.' "If you'd won a few, you'd be going, 'Listen, (I think we'll be getting) a couple of days off' and he'd be like, 'No, you're all in tomorrow.' He'd definitely be playing mind games." Keane reminisced about a stunning incident involving him and former team-mate Mark Crossley, who is widely known as 'Big Norm' around football. Keane turned to Crossley and added: "We (had) the incident with me, you and the Crystal Palace goal where he punched me after the game. He'd give me days off and he'd be brilliant." One of Keane's worst moments as a player came in the final minutes of that FA Cup clash, when his short back-pass resulted in Crossley fluffing a clearance to Palace star John Salako, who proceeded to lob in an equaliser to force another FA Cup replay. At the time, penalty shootouts were not part of the FA Cup, so Keane's error meant Forest had to face Palace in the competition for the third time that season. Re-living that painful moment, Keane added: "I'm looking and it was honestly like slow motion. You know about not upsetting the manager because we all loved Brian Clough. He gave us a chance like Norm did for me. ‌ "I remember John Salako got it and I'm looking at Norm running back. John Salako, what would he have been? Forty-five yards out? (I thought) 'Norm get back. He's f***ing not getting there'. I swear, as soon as I heard it hit the net... "He (Clough) blamed me for the back pass and it was the cup game. So then we went to a replay and he wanted the game done and dusted there. I think it ended up going to, three replays or something. ‌ "So he (Clough) had the thought of having a free weekend and was going, 'Now I've got to go to London, all the way to London to play Palace in the cup game that we hadn't won.' So he blamed me after the match." Turning to Crossley, Keane said: "I don't think you said much after the game. You just let me take the wrap for it. He (Clough) just punched me in the chest." Keane made 148 appearances at Forest between 1990 and 1993. He eventually left for United in a then British record £3.75million deal.

Steve Smith not thinking about Ashes as Australia prepare for World Test final

England have been vocal about their long-term planning being geared towards building a team capable of wresting the urn from Australia for the first time in a decade ahead of the 2025-26 series Down Under. However, Smith is zoned in on this week's World Test Championship final against South Africa at Lord's, starting on Wednesday, before Australia head to the Caribbean for three Tests and five T20s. 'The Ashes is a big series but you also can't look too far ahead,' said Smith, winner of the Compton–Miller Medal for player of the Ashes series in 2017-18 and 2019. 'You've got to keep playing each game as it comes, every game is important with the World Test Championship on the line. 'That's the reason it came in: to make every Test more relevant. We go to the West Indies next week and we've got a series there, that'll be the next focus after this game.' Australia's last Test visit to Lord's in the 2023 Ashes saw an extraordinary bust-up between a couple of players and Marylebone Cricket Club members, one of whom was expelled and two others suspended. Asked about sort of reception he is anticipating from the members this time, Smith replied: 'Unsure, and I'm actually not fussed either way.' Australia defeated India in the 2023 final and are overwhelming favourites to see off the Proteas, whose place at the showpiece has been questioned, including by former England captain Michael Vaughan. Vaughan said they got there 'on the back of beating pretty much nobody', while ex-Australia spinner Kerry O'Keeffe likened their run to 'making the Wimbledon final without playing a seed along the way'. South Africa played only a dozen Tests in the 2023-25 edition and did not have to face either England or Australia, although six successive wins saw them book their spot in the final with a match to spare. Head coach Shukri Conrad said: 'I'm tired of speaking about it, we're here and that's all that matters. We get a chance to walk away World Test champions. 'Playing Australia, it doesn't get any bigger than that. What's gone before counts for absolutely nothing at the minute. We're quietly confident going into this game that we can pull one over them. 'We still hold Test cricket very dearly, our fixture list might not speak to that, but this is the biggest final all of our players have ever been involved in and their biggest match.' Conrad and his coaching staff had dinner on Sunday evening with former England seamer Stuart Broad, who took 113 of his 604 Test wickets at Lord's and has more dismissals against Australia than anyone else. Broad joined South Africa as a consultant at practice on Monday to pass on tips to the likes of Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen about dealing with the notorious slope at the home of cricket. 'It was just a casual chat and if I didn't call time at 10:30pm, I think he'd still be there chatting to us,' Conrad said. 'It was really enlightening, really casual and everybody walked away thinking 'that was great', Broady included.'
