Crackdown continues on illegal Bangladeshis

Jaipur: City police intensified their crackdown on
illegal Bangladeshi nationals
with a second consecutive day of coordinated searches and interrogations across multiple parts of the city Thursday.
The drive follows heightened security directives issued by chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma Wednesday, instructing police to identify and deport foreign nationals residing illegally in the state.
According to officials, Wednesday's operation was launched across all four districts under Jaipur Commissionerate from 4am to 8am. The raids were conducted discreetly, based on confidential intelligence inputs, and were supervised by additional commissioner of police (law and order) Rameshwar Singh, under the overall monitoring of police commissioner Biju George Joseph.
"We detained over 100 individuals Wednesday. Preliminary verification shows at least 35 of them were in possession of
forged documents
. We are now examining their mobile data, WhatsApp activity, call records, and financial transactions linked to Bangladesh," said an official.
Those found residing illegally are being moved to the Alwar detention centre. Deportation proceedings will be initiated following document verification. Police are also probing the network of agents and individuals who allegedly facilitated the procurement of fake Aadhaar cards, Jan Aadhaar, PAN cards, and voter IDs for these immigrants.
Sources said areas like Hasanpura, Daulpura, and Bhankrota have emerged as high-risk zones with a significant concentration of undocumented foreign nationals. In a similar operation in Oct last year, 11 Bangladeshi nationals were deported from Bhankrota for illegal residency. Officials added that Thursday's follow-up action included interrogation of the individuals detained a day earlier. "Some of them claimed to possess valid documents, but we are verifying their authenticity," said an officer.

Reuters File Russian President Vladimir Putin wants his officials to deactivate their WhatsApp accounts and embrace a national messaging service that the country plans to create within the next few years. WhatsApp is the last surviving foreign messaging platform in Russia, and now, Putin wants it gone. The Russian president recently highlighted the need to establish a 'national messenger'. The State Duma of Russia has adopted a federal law that will oversee the creation of the service for correspondence, telephone calls, and as a platform to receive public and commercial services. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The development was confirmed by presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, according to a report by TASS. What will the new messenger be like? Peskov has noted that Russia's indigenous messaging service should be 'best quality' and 'on par' with foreign alternatives. The new service will run on Russian-developed software and be integrated with the government portal Gosuslugi, allowing users to verify their identity, present digital documents, register transactions, and certify documents using electronic signatures. 'The emergence of a national messenger is great, provided that it will be a competitive messenger that is on par, as they say, with foreign alternatives. Because there are many of them out there, and anyone can use them,' Peskov said. Peskov emphasised the need to cultivate a competitive landscape in the sector, stating that 'a national messenger - and not just a single one - should appear in our country,' highlighting the belief that competition fuels innovation. He added, 'There should also be a competitive environment in this field, because worldwide, messengers thrive only in conditions of very, very tough competition.' Which countries have their own messaging services? With the introduction of its own messaging service, Russia won't be the first country to enter the market of correspondence apps. Countries like China, Vietnam, Japan and South Korea have their indigenous messaging applications.

Fraudsters pose as CBI officers, cji, dupe ex-scientist of Rs 1 crore

HYDERABAD: A 73-year-old retired chief scientist and his wife were digitally 'arrested' and duped of Rs 1.34 crore by cybercriminals who impersonated law enforcement officials and created a mock Supreme Court scene to intimidate the couple. In his complaint, the scientist said he received a call on May 31, allegedly from the Department of Telecommunications. The caller claimed a criminal case had been registered against him with the Ashoka Nagar police in Bengaluru. The call was transferred to a man posing as a police officer named Sandeep Rao, who said the scientist's Aadhaar number had been misused by a criminal, Sadakat Khan, arrested at New Delhi airport in connection with human trafficking and cybercrime. The scientist was then connected to another fraudster posing as a CBI officer, Akash Khulari, who sent forged documents bearing logos of the Supreme Court, Delhi Police and CBI. These included fake reports from the Karnataka Police and fabricated court orders. Under sustained psychological pressure, the couple was made to believe they faced imminent arrest. The scientist was told to attend a 'virtual Supreme Court hearing' and follow protocols such as wearing white and standing when the 'chief justice' appeared on a video call. 'My wife and I followed these instructions. We were told to remain seated only when he took his seat,' he said in the complaint. The fraudsters threatened him with charges of money laundering and drug trafficking and asked him to reveal his bank balances for 'assessment'. Claiming the money needed to be 'verified' by the court's accountant, they coerced him into transferring Rs 1.34 crore via RTGS, promising it would be refunded after the investigation. Realising later that he had been conned, the scientist approached friends, who advised him to approach the police. He then filed a complaint with the Rachakonda Cyber Crime police, who have registered a case under relevant sections and launched an investigation.
