Patna: PM
Narendra Modi
will flag off the state's second and country's third
Amrit Bharat Express
on April 24 through videoconferencing from Madhubani, along with four other passenger trains, including Namo Bharat Rapid Rail.
The new semi-luxury non-AC sleeper Amrit Bharat train, which will run between Saharsa in Bihar and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) in Mumbai, aims to improve long-distance rail connectivity for passengers travelling between north Bihar and Mumbai.
According to Samastipur divisional railway manager (DRM) Vinay Srivastava, the Amrit Bharat Express is a cost-effective yet modern travel option, featuring non-AC sleeper class coaches packed with enhanced safety and convenience features. "The train also includes a 'talk-back' facility, allowing passengers to communicate directly with the train manager in case of emergency — a first for sleeper class train in the country," he said.
The train also comes equipped with improved suspension for better ride quality, stronger couplers for safer operations and energy-efficient lighting systems. "It is tailored especially for long-haul routes, providing a more comfortable and secure journey," the DRM said, adding that the Amrit Bharat Express will run weekly in the beginning.
According to the ECR's chief public relations officer Saraswati Chandra, the launch marks the second Amrit Bharat train for Bihar after the Darbhanga-Anand Vihar Amrit Bharat Express, further fulfilling the railways' vision for enhanced connectivity and safer travel.
"The PM will also flag off three other local passenger trains on the Bithan-Samastipur, Alauli-Saharsa and Saharsa-Pipra routes on the newly built tracks under the Samastipur division," he said.

Not a seat left vacant as J&K's all-new Vande Bharat makes first journey from Katra to Srinagar

Two passenger trains will run daily from Katra to Srinagar—one at 8:10 am and another at 2:55 pm. The trains were launched on the eve of Eid-ul-Adha. In fact, according to the IRCTC website, the pairs of trains for Saturday and Sunday were fully booked within hours of Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating them 6 June. Katra/Jammu: When the Vande Bharat Express left the Katra railway station at 8:10 am Saturday on its first commercial journey to Srinagar, it was 100 percent booked. The return journey is also fully booked, as are the train's journeys on Sunday. The 272-km Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) will provide all-weather connectivity. The historic line connects Kashmir not just to Jammu but to the rest of India via a railway line for the first time. On Friday, PM Modi flagged off two train services: one from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (SMVD) Railway Station in Katra to Srinagar, and the other from Srinagar to Katra. Alongside, the prime minister also inaugurated the world's highest railway arch bridge over the Chenab as well as the country's first cable-stayed bridge of the Indian Railways over Anji Khad. Within Jammu and Kashmir, trains have so far been operational between Banihal and Baramulla in the Kashmir Valley, and between Jammu, Udhampur, and Katra in the Jammu region. But for the first, a direct train link from Jammu's Katra to Srinagar has opened. The launch of this rail link comes just weeks after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. Kashmir has seen a dip in tourism since the 22 April attack, and the new train service is being seen as a move toward restoring normalcy in the Valley. In his address, PM Modi said the attack on tourists in Pahalgam was an attempt to 'engineer communal clashes across the country and deprive the people of Kashmir of their livelihood.' Also Read: What Indian Railways needs right now—safety more than speed The inaugural run On 6 June, the inaugural Vande Bharat Express ran from Katra to Sangaldan in Ramban district, and a second service ran from Srinagar to Sangaldan. To reach the station, the train passed through two key engineering landmarks: the Anji Khad cable-stayed bridge and the towering Chenab rail bridge—the tallest railway bridge in the world. In its journey to Sangalda, the train goes through breathtaking lush green hills, stretches of pine forest, and a series of tunnels—almost one every half a kilometre—cut through rugged terrain. According to Northern Railway spokesperson Dilip Kumar, the train has been designed using advanced technology to operate in J&K's tough topographic and climatic conditions. 'The train has been equipped with such technology that it will warm up to provide comfort to the passengers during intense winters the region witnesses,' Kumar told ThePrint. The most challenging part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project was constructing the Chenab rail bridge—made of steel and concrete. It was a difficult task as the region falls in a high-risk seismic zone and witnesses frequent spells of gusty winds. After several trial runs, the train was finally launched on 6 June. According to the railway officials, the Chenab bridge can withstand wind speeds up to 260 km/h. It has a projected lifespan of 120 years. 'This is not any general railway line but an engineering marvel. It's the feather in the cap of Indian Railways and a proud moment for the engineers and everyone involved in building this bridge,' Kumar said. Farm reset: Government says agriculture sector reshaped in 11 years, budget surged five-fold since 2013 & crop output jumped

A surge in budget allocation and sustained policy focus over the past 11 years has led to a wide-ranging transformation in India's agricultural sector, the Centre said on Saturday, crediting flagship schemes with driving output, procurement, and farmer support to new highs. In an official statement, the government said its agri reforms have empowered farmers and repositioned India on the path from food security to global agricultural leadership. The transformation, it said, has focused on inclusive development — covering smallholders, women-led groups, allied sectors, and traditional practices such as millet farming. 'Over the past eleven years, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, India's agricultural sector has undergone a profound transformation, rooted in the philosophy of Beej Se Bazaar Tak (seed to market),' the statement said, quoted PTI. Budgetary support for the Department of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare has risen nearly five times — from Rs 27,663 crore in 2013-14 to Rs 1,37,664.35 crore in 2024-25. Foodgrain output also recorded an increase from 265.05 million tonnes in 2014-15 to an estimated 347.44 million tonnes in 2024-25. The government said it has sharply increased minimum support prices (MSP) for key crops. Wheat MSP rose from Rs 1,400 per quintal in 2013-14 to Rs 2,425 per quintal in 2024-25, while the paddy MSP increased from Rs 1,310 to Rs 2,369 per quintal between 2013-14 and 2025-26. Since its launch in 2019, the PM-KISAN scheme has disbursed Rs 3.7 lakh crore to over 110 million farmers. Separately, about Rs 10 lakh crore in credit has been sanctioned to 7.71 crore farmers under the Kisan Credit Card initiative. Crop procurement volumes have seen a sharp uptick. Kharif procurement between FY15 and FY25 totalled 787.1 million tonnes, compared with 467.9 million tonnes in the previous decade. MSP procurement of pulses jumped from 1.52 lakh tonnes (2009–2014) to 8.3 million tonnes (2020–2025), while oilseeds procurement has grown multifold over the same period. The Centre highlighted additional measures such as investments in modern irrigation, digital agri-marketplaces, tech-led solutions, and credit support. Allied sectors like dairy and fisheries have also expanded during the period. 'As India enters Amrit Kaal, its empowered farmers stand ready to lead the nation from food security to global food leadership,' the government said. India's agri sector transformed by five-fold budget surge over 11 years: Govt

India's agricultural sector has undergone a "profound transformation" over the past 11 years through various government schemes and increased budgetary allocations, empowering farmers to lead the nation from food security to global food leadership , the government said on Saturday. The transformation has focused on inclusivity by supporting small farmers, women-led groups and allied sectors while positioning India as a global agricultural leader, according to an official statement. "Over the past eleven years, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, India's agricultural sector has undergone a profound transformation, rooted in the philosophy of Beej Se Bazaar Tak (seed to market)," the government said.
