Patna: PM
Narendra Modi
will flag off the state's second and country's third
Amrit Bharat Express
on April 24 through videoconferencing from Madhubani, along with four other passenger trains, including Namo Bharat Rapid Rail.
The new semi-luxury non-AC sleeper Amrit Bharat train, which will run between Saharsa in Bihar and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) in Mumbai, aims to improve long-distance rail connectivity for passengers travelling between north Bihar and Mumbai.
According to Samastipur divisional railway manager (DRM) Vinay Srivastava, the Amrit Bharat Express is a cost-effective yet modern travel option, featuring non-AC sleeper class coaches packed with enhanced safety and convenience features. "The train also includes a 'talk-back' facility, allowing passengers to communicate directly with the train manager in case of emergency — a first for sleeper class train in the country," he said.
The train also comes equipped with improved suspension for better ride quality, stronger couplers for safer operations and energy-efficient lighting systems. "It is tailored especially for long-haul routes, providing a more comfortable and secure journey," the DRM said, adding that the Amrit Bharat Express will run weekly in the beginning.
According to the ECR's chief public relations officer Saraswati Chandra, the launch marks the second Amrit Bharat train for Bihar after the Darbhanga-Anand Vihar Amrit Bharat Express, further fulfilling the railways' vision for enhanced connectivity and safer travel.
"The PM will also flag off three other local passenger trains on the Bithan-Samastipur, Alauli-Saharsa and Saharsa-Pipra routes on the newly built tracks under the Samastipur division," he said.
