dnata Travel has announced a strategic partnership with the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), aiming to drive more visitors from the UAE and the wider Gulf region to the island nation, as demand for Sri Lanka surges among GCC travellers.
Revealed at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2025 in Dubai, the collaboration follows a 28% rise in tourist arrivals from the UAE to Sri Lanka in the first quarter of the year, according to SLTDA figures. dnata Travel's own booking data shows Sri Lanka has become one of the most sought-after international destinations for UAE residents, particularly during peak travel periods.
The partnership will focus on promoting curated travel experiences, destination awareness campaigns, and exclusive offers targeting Gulf travellers looking for nature-driven, wellness-focused escapes within short-haul reach.
Meerah Ketait, Head of Retail and Leisure UAE at dnata Travel, noted a significant increase in bookings for Sri Lanka, especially among travellers seeking quick getaways tied to school holidays and long weekends. 'Today's Gulf traveller is experience-driven, and Sri Lanka offers the right mix of culture, comfort, and adventure,'
she said.
A new marketing campaign, launched in collaboration with Sri Lanka-based Aitken Spence Travels, will spotlight key travel themes, from boutique wellness retreats and highland escapes to safaris and immersive cultural experiences.
The move supports Sri Lanka's broader goal to diversify its tourism markets and attract high-value travellers from the Middle East. With over 70 tourism stakeholders showcasing at ATM 2025, the country is making a strong pitch to the region's leisure travel market.
Sri Lanka's year-round appeal, enhanced air connectivity, and evolving tourism infrastructure position it as a rising favourite for GCC travellers in 2025 and beyond.

'Huwag kayong mag-alala para sa OWWA dahil hindi lang ito isang araw lang sa Dubai. Iiwan na namin dito 'yung card printer para tuloy-tuloy lang ang pagpi-print ng OWWA e-Card dito sa Dubai,' OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan. Alongside the surge in National ID applications, the OWWA e-Card was among the most in-demand services during the OFW Serbisyo Caravan held at the Dubai World Trade Center on August 3. Active members of OWWA who wish to request an e-Card may complete their registration using a QR code provided by the agency. The QR code will remain available for those who missed the caravan. She added that eligible individuals can claim their e-Card anytime, even after the event. 'Anytime pwede niyong kunin, at kung hindi niyo makukuha today, kayo po ay cocontact-in ng mga tauhan ng OWWA dito sa Dubai,' she said. Thousands of attendees OWWA made the decision after thousands of Filipinos turned up at the one-day event, overwhelming the initial space at Exhibition Hall 8 of the Dubai World Trade Center and prompting organizers to expand the venue to Sheikh Rashid Hall. Caunan acknowledged the large turnout and emphasized the need for recurring caravans in the UAE. 'Hindi natin in-expect na ganito karami ang may kailangan ng serbisyo ng gobyerno dito sa Dubai. Hindi pwedeng isa o dalawang araw lang ito, kailangan ulit-ulitin ito dahil kailangan dito sa UAE dalhin ang serbisyo ng gobyerno,' Caunan said. The OWWA e-Card serves as proof of membership and can be used to access various government services and programs for overseas Filipinos.
