Royston (third left) presents sacrificial meat to a recipient. MUKAH (June 8): A strong sense of unity and community spirit filled Kampung Penakub Permai here on Saturday as residents gathered at Masjid Jamek to observe the ibadah korban in celebration of Hari Raya Aidiladha. The annual tradition, deeply embedded in local customs, saw participation from all segments of the community including youth, women and the elderly, who worked hand-in-hand in the slaughtering, preparation, and distribution of sacrificial meat. The event was graced by Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine, who joined villagers and volunteers in the religious event. 'Inclusive community involvement like this should be embraced as a model to foster enduring unity and social harmony,' he was quoted as saying in a Sarawak Public Communications Unit report. Royston also took part in similar ibadah korban at Kampung Tellian Tradisi and Masjid Setiraja, and expressed his appreciation for the community's dedication to upholding the values of sacrifice and selflessness during Aidiladha. Also on Saturday, Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon attended the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration organised by Urus Setia Saudara Kita (USK) Sungai Asap. The event took place in the compound of Masjid Al-Fattah, Sungai Asap. Chukpai extended his gratitude to USK Sungai Asap for inviting him and his delegation to be part of the celebration with the local community. 'May this celebration bring deeper meaning, compassion, and peace to us all, while strengthening the bonds among us,' he said. The event served not only as a religious celebration but also as a reflection of unity and harmony among the diverse communities in the area.
